  1. What branch of Asda is it that has the naturist shopping evening for nudists? And where do they keep their change?
  2. AT an event I was DJing at in London in 1983, someone came up to me with a request for "The Closer You Get". Immediately, I thought of "The Closer She Gets" by John Drevares. He said it wasn't, and I couldn't help him. He went off a bit miffed. Half an hour later, he returned, insisting that I had this track called "The Closer You Get". When he started humming it, I realised he meant "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" by Jackie Wilson! I don't think it's bad form to ask for your favourite record - any DJ can say yes or no. Just choose your words carefuly, and know what you're asking for!
  3. Enough to make a man cry, isn't it? The most bizarre stiffener I received was a sleeveless copy of "Public Image" by PIL on Virgin - wouldn't have minded, but I had my copy of the single since 1978!
  4. Good one Pete! Or is something fishy really going on?
  5. Erm.................Michelle McManus?
  6. Do you mind - that was done on top hi-fi equipment !
  7. The creators of P&P were Jan and Vlasta Dalibor, a Polish couple who settled in the UK (not sure about the refugee status). Bill and Ben weren't so much victims of the PC brigade; more the anti-drugs movement. Any references to a little weed are now obliterated!
  8. OK, it would have been a month's wages, but that's the Jewish in me !
  9. Wasn't it covered up as Bob Seeger & the Silver Bullet Band by Richard Searling?
  10. I'll try get one up in about half an hour Ken!
  11. Never heard of it being released on the Mussolini label!
  12. I'm willing to bet a week's wages that it is NOT a 60s recording!
  13. A P&P collector would happily give you around £20 for the 78 in its pic sleeve. It also came out on 45, but as it's a late one (1958) it makes the 78 rarer, as less of them were pressed. You don't see the pic sleeve much, that's for sure! "The Velvet Glove" was the theme to their first TV series, long before they adopted "We Belong Together" as their theme! Here's a classic - their "Beat Party" EP - all (bar 2 tracks) are Beatles cover versions! And look - you can even see the strings! Dunno why P&P themselves aren't featured on the cover - looks like it was just dedicated to The Beakles (yes, that's what they called themselves on the series when they appeared in it!).
  14. Here's the scan of my copy of "Time Won't Let Me" by J C Messina on Tom King. This appears to have been signed by Tom King himself. On the left of the label, he has written "TO WKCN (i think) LISTENERS - Tom King". On the right of the label, in a different coloured pen, is an inscription which looks like initials, and the year 1975. Is is still safe to assume this was a 1975 release? Or could 1975 be a filing reference for the radio station in question? Certainly the KENDUN matrix looks mid to late '70s, very much like STRAWBERRY or ORLAKE matrices. The recording is in true stereo, and a million times clearer than the bootleg. Would be interesting to see what comes of all this - OK, it's over to you!
  15. Jim Messina was in Buffalo Springfield during the mid-60s. Haven't forgotten! Will post the scan up tonight, and sorry for the delay. It has a "KENDUN" matrix in bold capital letters - does this mean anything to anyone?
  16. Not sure if it was the PC (Pork Chop or Politically Correct?) brigade that got them taken off the air - they were reactivated in the '90s for a TV pilot that never made a series, and it also earned them their only UK singles chart hit - a cover of "Reet Petite". For my sins, I now collect the Columbia EPs as a throwback to my childhood. I only need 3 to complete the collection of about 13-14!
  17. Well, when you see the scan Ken, I'm afraid it may well have to be your arse! What may also give it away is the matrix stamp; it appears to have a worded stamp (which escapes me) similar to the STRAWBERRY or ORLAKE stamps used here - exactly the same typeface. It's also a Stereo recording - a million times better than the crap quality pressing of it. Will post the scan up later tonight.
  18. No probs mate!
  19. About £30 - £40, Gabriel.
  20. Straight up Pete mate - my copy has been signed and dated by Tom King (owner of the label and producer, and ex-member of the Outsiders)! It was signed for a radio station and carries a message from Tom for all listeners, along with his signature and the date "1975" in blg bold letters. It came my way via Steve Bounden who, I think, now lives in France. I'll try to post a scan up later when I get home.
  21. Also came out on Dutch Fontana. Wonder what that would go for?
  22. J. C. Messina's 1975 cover of "Time Won't Let Me" by The Outsiders. Undoubtedly a rock/pop cover, but done with style! Take it J C is the same man who sang with Kenny Loggins as Loggins and Messina, long before Kenny Loggins had that god-awful "Footloose" in the charts?
  23. Apparently, the strains of showbusiness caused them to drift apart. Pinky remains unemployed, and spends his spare time campaigning against the sale of pork, and Perky was last known to be having an extra-marital affair with Princess, the duck character from their TV series. Seriously though, it is thought that the original puppets used in the series were stolen some years ago, and never found.
  24. It's a reissue (unsure of status) with a previously unissued take of "Ain't That Love Enough". The original of "You Really Made It Good....." came out on both Romark and Senator.
  25. I thought EX was actually short for Excrement!
