  1. Any idea when the clipping dates from? Judging by the reference to the Beatles, Stones and Animals, I would guess early 1965.
  2. Hi Adam, Harvey Hall on Luau goes for around £75. Gene
  3. Pete, I will definitely take you up on a visit - may have to be around January tho, as things are quite hectic leading up to Xmas. Would that be OK with you? Haven't seen you for a while, so would be great to catch up and sort those 50s/60s records out!
  4. You not considered going down the "Soul Pack" route then Pete?
  5. Hi Ady, Yes - they sure do! Gene
  6. Just spotted this on Popsike, where it lists two copies - one which is a definite original (though without the "Chicago, Illinois"), and this one. Is this the boot, John? If so, some poor sod's parted with £249 for it!
  7. Just to throw another spanner in, I've heard of some copies omitting the "Chicago, Illinois" bit under "Paree Records" (unlike mine, which is a definite original and does show this). Is this correct? Does the boot also omit this detail?
  8. It was released in 1961. Additionally, there are two older recordings that come to mind. "Baby Please Don't Go" by Jo Ann Henderson dates from around 1955, whilst "That's Why I Cry" by Varetta Dillard is a 1958 release.
  9. Times Square Records, New York, currently have a VG+ (US grading) copy of this for $200. Bargain hunters - bag it now! Interestingly enough, I have seen 78s on the Chance label going for no higher than around $300 - compared to their 45 counterparts, some of which sell for over the $1,000 mark. As an example, an antipodean friend of mine bought a Near Mint copy of "Cross Over The Bridge" by the Flamingos on a Chance 78 four years ago for $250. I do believe the 45 of this goes for around $1,200.
  10. No probs mate - always happy to help!
  11. Mel - not sure about the Bob Crewe 78 (though I guess it is quite rare), but Mint copies of the Laurels 78 that you have, "Yours Alone/Farewell", sell for around the $400 mark in the USA.
  12. Yep Neil - guy on the back row to the right - he IS the Walrus, goo goo ga joob!
  13. Yep - they're both 78s! Seriously Mel, I would date the Bob Crewe to around 1956 (but know nothing else about it), and the Bobby Relf to around 1955 - 1956. The Flair label was part of the Modern family of labels. Interesting pieces - and from reading up, it appears that Bobby Relf is Bob Relf (ie, Bobby Garrett etc) who went on to join the Hollywood Flames after leaving The Laurels. Take a look at this: https://www.answers.com/topic/jackie-lee Gene
  14. Hi Mark, Judging by the delta matrix Ted supplied (69491), it would date it to approximately November-December 1967. And yes, I agree - what a stonking record! May play mine at Kent on the 14th and London on the 20th! Gene
  15. Thanks Derek - now added it to the collection!
  16. Not over-keen on Frank Popp , I have to admit, but I do love anything by Swing Out Sister! Also quite partial to the way St Etienne sampled 60s pop/soul for some of their tracks. Pete - you still in touch with Bob Stanley?
  17. Hi Godz, Hope you're well mate. Apart from Deke Wheeler in Southampton, the other source I can recommend is a shop called Sounds That Swing, based in Camden, North London. I'm sure you'd be able to find them if you google them. There have been a few contenders for the rarest UK R&R 45, and the following are all known to have realised over £1,500 each: Ron Hargrave - Latch On (MGM) Mac Curtis - The Low Road (Parlophone) The Crows - Gee (Columbia) Jackie Lee Cochran - Mama Don't You Think I Know (Brunswick) The Chords - Sh'Boom (Columbia) The Penguins - Earth Angel (London - gold lettering) The Barons - Don't Walk Out (London - gold lettering) I've sent you a PM - check your inbox! Love the look of your Cosmo 45 - would love to know more about it. Gene PS - Cheers for the plug, Pete!
  18. In order to try and listen to it, have you tried spinning your turntable round fast, or have you played it on 45 to try and get a rough idea of how it sounds? Serious question.
  19. Actually, I think "Lipstick Traces" follows on nicely straight after "She Blew A Good Thing" (fnarr fnarr!)
  20. I'd say you made an excellent choice Newer. Just hope you can get to play it soon to hear what it sounds like.
  21. Good point Tony. I was happy to pay $50 for mine a few years ago, and sold it for about £30 to a collector in the UK.
  22. Hi Pete, From what I can glean (as I've had one of these in the past), the Astra issue comes from 1965 (a year later than the Am. Arts release). Believed to have also been pressed on red vinyl, like other Astra issues of the time.
  23. Glenn has bought off me in the past (the most recent being two months ago), and I always find him to be approachable, friendly, and always says thanks in the way of positive feedback to those who deserve it. It's always been said about me that I don't suffer fools, and I know that I can react in the same way if pushed or crossed (not trying to take anyone's side, you understand - just saying it as it is). No problems from here.......................
  24. Hi Ady, Thanks for the heads-up. I've just received a postal reference from the seller. Hopefully this should mean that it is actually on its way. But you're right....the scan is exactly the same. Fingers crossed! Will let you know how I get on. Gene
  25. Cheers Stu! Another one to play at SHS on 20th October...........now I just hope it arrives safely!
