  1. Cracking good record Pete! I won't sell mine, but it may be worth talking to Tim Brown, where my copy came from - didn't have to pay a king's ransom either............hope that helps. Gene
  2. CLUE - it rhymes with its description, "poopsie"
  3. Does this track really quote the F word in the closing chorus? Been told it does.............
  4. Apparently, loads were found in the same batch as the Royal Esquires and another release, all on Grand Prix.
  5. But I'm a male tart Jamie!
  6. Hi Ady, Take a look at this.............. Rodd Keith Revealed By Ellery Eskelin "Leaping or falling from an overcrossing onto the Hollywood Freeway, a man identified as Rodney Eskelin, 37, address unknown, was struck by numerous cars and killed. Police said the victim plunged down the Santa Monica Blvd. overpass onto the northbound freeway about 5:10a.m. and drivers could not avoid him." This news item ran in the Los Angeles Times on December 16, 1974. Rodney Eskelin was my father. I was recently at the New York Public Library and decided to search the records for any mention of this event. I had always suspected that there would be and here it was. I was familiar with the circumstances of his death but was shocked by the bold matter of fact delivery and yet strange as it sounds, able to draw a certain amount of strength and comfort from the reality of it. Sometimes I feel that my father probably had a more profound effect on my life than anyone I've ever met. It's quite a legacy especially given the fact that I had almost no direct contact with him before he either accidentally or intentionally left this world. Rodney Keith Eskelin, (or Rodd as he spelled his name), was considered a musical genius by every person that I've ever spoken to who knew him. For most of my life this story would remain a deeply private one, difficult to gain a perspective on let alone try to relate and share with others. In 1994, however that all changed. I discovered that my father Rodd Keith (as he was known in the music business), had himself been discovered by an intrepid record collector and was now gaining cult status for his work in the "song poem" industry. "Song poem" music refers to those "send us your lyrics" ads that you've probably seen in magazines. Rodd was one of the people who set those words to music and recorded the songs which were then "sent around" as promotion on behalf of the client. A strange process that produced even stranger results. This is Rodd's (and my) story. Read more - https://home.earthlink.net/~eskelin/Rodd.html
  7. Single-sided demos by any chance?
  8. Yes - I think they are. Good luck mate.................
  9. Who cares? Phwoooooooooar! I've been told that the LP isn't worth a - probably a different story for the cover though!
  10. My guess is around £50 on the white demos, and £75 on each of the black issues. However, I am open to being proven wrong as I could be a year or two out of date!
  11. I think it was something to do with distribution being taken over by Atlantic. There are three different types of label design I know and, to the best of my knowledge, they are: 1. Black and silver issue, block lettering (Atlantic dist) 2. White demo, block lettering (Atlantic dist) 3. Black and silver "half-moon" design; credits printed on side (independent dist). Gene
  12. Very sad news indeed. I haven't been a regular there since the mid-90s, but I did have the pleasure of playing a spot there in November 1986 (will always be thankful to you for that Ady). I took Elaine to her first niter (and so far, her only one) there in May 2004 and, for someone who is not strictly into the music, let alone a niter, she absolutely enjoyed it; the ambience really impressed her. I got the bad news from Shane Cox when he phoned me last night. He, as you can imagine, is absolutely devastated as, I guess, many others are. It is the sad end of an era - I was there in 1982 when it was just taking off. Good luck with a new niter venue Ady, and thanks for everything over the past couple of decades. Gene
  13. It was also released as a 78 in the UK on Philips in 1955. Think that's only worth around £5 at the most........
  14. And they say our police force is corrupt.............. Good luck with taking the matter further Hammy. Sorry to hear about what you went through. Let us know how you get on.
  15. How about the street-noise sound effect on the start of "Window Shoping On Girls Avenue" by the Vala-Quons?
  16. Thought that was a man having a pee?
  17. I absolutely love the "space-age" type sound effects on the intro of "Satisfy Me Baby" by The Sweets.
  18. That is brilliant! I think Lester Tipton died in very tragic circumstances, as the victim of a robbery or something. Anyone able to confirm that?
  19. Popcorn or popping corn is a type of maize which explodes from the kernel and puffs up when it is heated in oil or by dry heat. Special varieties of corn are grown to give improved popping yield. Some wild types will pop, but the cultivated strain is Zea mays subsp. mays, which is a special kind of flint corn. Popcorn was first formally developed by Native Americans thousands of years ago.[1]
  20. Always pronounced it "Palmer", like the "Palmer (er Parma) Violets" sweets Mum used to buy for me!
  21. I find French buyers the worst for trying to duck out of pre-advertised P&P costs - and it's ALWAYS after the auction closes. I've had three in the space of a year, and they have always coughed up once I tell them that "by bidding on my auction, you agree to be bound by my terms and conditions". In other words, read up, put up, shut the f*** up and PAY UP!
  22. Seriously, here's what should be done given his refusal to continue: 1. File an Unpaid Item Dispute after the 7th day, giving the reason that the buyer has not sent payment. 2. After a week, close the dispute, and opt to give him an unpaid item STRIKE. 3. Leave negative feedback explaining the circumstances. 4. Add him to your blocked bidder list.
  23. Sure did Bogue - but then I realised it was only a fart!
  24. .and here's some of my faves: ED CROOK: You'll See (Tri-Sound) (That's Alright) VOLUMES: One Way Lover (American Arts) (I Just Can't Help Myself) VINCE APOLLO: Can't Turn My Back (Pentagon) (I Bear Witness) SHALIMARS: Baby (Verve) (Stop & Take A Look At Yourself) MAGNETICS: Count The Days (Sable) (When I'm With My Baby) VOLUMES: My Road Is The Right Road (Inferno) (My Kind Of Girl)
