Good luck with the sale Monique - absolutely awesome record, and I'm sure you'll get a top price for it. Those unlucky enough not to have won the auction can hear this at Solid Hit Soul on Friday 16th February, where it always goes down well! See details below..............

Is it the same as the Ad Libs on Interphon (or UK Fontana?)

Ebay Confusion Resolved [thanks Dennis Brennam]
Gene-r replied to Baz Atkinson's topic in All About the SOUL
I'm really pleased you got it sorted Baz. From my dealings with Dennis (and his recollections of The Intentions), I have found him to be a solid bloke, and I'm so glad the matter was resolved amicably. -
Yes - very interesting! God rest her soul (since she died in quite tragic circumstances), but how does a UK Philips recording artist, let alone a screaming kid, get to record for Stax records? Mind you, she did attempt to cover one of my all-time faves, "School's Out" by Alice Cooper, on the B-side of her follow-up single "(You've Got) Personality", but have to confess that I haven't heard it yet!

Lena Zavaroni, whose US releases were issued by Stax!

Erm...............in the words of Carolyn Sullivan.............. Seriously though, I remember Lovelace Watkins appearing on Opportunity Knocks, and a few other small-time talent ITV programmes, around late 1972 to early 1973. His career here was short-lived. Did I imagine it, or was he really a very dark guy with grey/white hair?

Give Up Girl - Connie Questel (Soul Class of '66)

Why don't you check Pete Smith's sales list today - surprisingly, he has them ALL for sale!
-
It actually looks like the camera flash has caught the vinyl and created a bad reflection. Is the seller based in the USA or over here?
-
Thanks for looking into it Miff! I did some more digging and found out that the Nightwing who released on Gull are, in fact, a NWOBHM band from the early '80s. I think this is a different band entirely - I checked a full discography and it doesn't appear on there. Still confused.......................

It was Russ - firstly as AAG 190 in 1964, and then as 202190 in 1966. There's also a UK LP "I Am The Greatest!" (BPG 62274), released 1963 or 1964. Unfortunately, the LP is completely taken up with comedy sketches and spoken word, apart from "Stand By Me", which appears to be the only music cut on the whole LP. It was also issued on CD by Sony in 1999.

While out at a boot fair this morning, I came across a 12" 45 acetate cut by PRT studios. When I played it, I found it to be pretty much a modern soul-type double sider. The two tracks are "Feed The Flame" and "Takin' The Rap" by Nightwing. Try as I did, I couldn't find out ANYTHING about these two tracks, or Nightwing! Does anyone know if this was released or what? Thanks! Gene Feed_The_Fire__Nightwing.mp3 Takin__The_Rap___Nightwing.mp3

Following on from Dave Moore's post on Muhammad Ali recently, I thought I'd post this for you. It's his version of "Stand By Me", released as Cassius Clay in 1964 on UK CBS and US Columbia. Not a bad version - and just to be naff, you can also hear the B-side "I Am The Greatest"! Stand_By_Me___Cassius_Clay.mp3 I_Am_The_Greatest___Cassius_Clay.mp3

Interesting documents - and they positively date "Lady In Green" to 1965.

Hi Pete, I thought the ones on sale for $50 not long ago are very, very new boots. They have a yellow label, and very thin shiny vinyl, and look nothing like the two examples in your original post. The sound quality is also crap. I would have thought this was a genuine Detroit press, but am open to correction! Gene

First Ever Uk Bootleg? Anyone Seen This Before?
Gene-r replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
I was led to believe that the Soul Sounds releases date from between 1968 - 1969. Wasn't 6 by 6 a 1970 release? -

Got a few Ace of Hearts LPs by Al Bowlly Malc - drop me a PM if you're keen. Gene -
There's also "Just Another Heartbreak" by Little Richie on SS7. Some UK Darrell Banks demos on Stateside credit "Open The Door Of Your Heart". Psychedelic Soul by Saxie Russell was also released on a misprinted "TOMAS" label.

Many thanks Ged, Tony and John! I thought one of them was John Gummoe from the Cascades, so this confirms it. Much appreciated. Would be interesting to find out if the Cascades did a version on LP or somewhere! The Cascades also have a pretty amazing connection to "Why You Wanna Treat Me The Way You Do" by The Hyperions, as its producer, Perry Botkin Jr., was also the producer behind the Cascades' material on Warner Bros. I have a question for a friend. Can anyone who has, or at least has access to a label scan" of "The Winds Kept Laughing" by Betty Turner on Crescent, please let me know who is credited as composer/s? Any help greatly appreciated - thanks! Gene
