  1. Playing through some CDs last night over a malt whisky nightcap, I stumbled over "I Got A Good Thing Going" by the Executive Four on Lumar. I played it again just to remind myself what a brilliant group vocal stomper it is! Are there still only two known copies of this? My belief is that it was first played covered up (Richard Searling?) as Robert L. Martin around 1979. This hissy copy went to Ion Tskalis, via Ray Evans, around 1985 - at this point it was a complete one-off. In 1987, Tim Ashibende turned up the only other copy in unplayed condition, as I remember it being on his list in April that year. Have any others surfaced in the last 20 years? And as a matter of curiosity, what would be a realistic value on it?
  2. Got a nice UK demo of Andre Gagnon - anyone got a nice Bernie Williams on Bell for a straight trade?
  3. I believe Jackie Lee also did a version of "I Cry Alone" on Decca in 1965. Not sure if this is the same as Ruby & The Romantics tho - anyone know?
  4. Coded euphemisn for "Don't buy this record - it sucks"!
  5. Some people once used N/EX, to mean Near Excellent. Wouldn't EX-, or VG+ suffice? Here's a conversation once overheard at a record fair: BUYER: How much? SELLER: £15 - it's Mint. BUYER: How can you say that - the cover's ripped. SELLER: Well you don't play the cover, do you?
  6. When RC first got started, this grading was for FAIR condition! Mind you, that was in the days when their lowest grade was BAD. I think it's just POOR now.
  7. I like the 70s soul label which describes me very well............"How Big?"
  8. That is well stunning Pete!
  9. ..absolutely Pete!
  10. sorry- posted same post twice - not awake yet!
  11. Additional information - Hot Chocolate's first UK single was a cover version of the Plastic Ono Band (John Lennon)'s "Give Peace A Chance", released on Apple as the Hot Chocolate Band. Also a UK-only release - I think.............. On a less serious note, anyone know the record they released in support of George Michael at the time of his arrest in a gents' toilet? Keep a look out for it - "It Started With A P*ss"!
  12. Hi Tone, I presume they're the same Soul Brothers who had a minor (Top 50) UK hit with "I Keep Ringing My Baby" in 1965? Gene
  13. Hi Russ - hope you're well mate. The very last time I saw Dick was in June 1986 at the 100 Club around 6am. He had just got back from his spot at the Fleet in Peterborough, and we stopped, chatted at the bar and he bought me a drink. I still owe him one from then! Always had a lot of time for Dick - a good bloke to chat to and get on with. Would be great to see him again, then I can buy him that drink I owe him after nearly 21 years - though I guess it would be a non-alcoholic one, since he gave up drinking and smoking in one go a couple of years before then! Gene
  14. Additionally, the Four Voices is an exellent double-sider. Be sure to check out "Summer Kind Of Love" - two excellent sides for a bargain price!
  15. The story is, in the early 2000s, the owner of the Prix label died, and all Prix records (of which there were multiple copies of specific titles), were sold by his wife in a yard sale. They were picked up by an American collector, and offloaded to different dealers over time.
  16. Got a good version of "When The Lovelight Starts Shining Thru His Eyes" by Richard Anthony, sung in French, on an EP.
  17. One very nice cheap-as-chips item I'm playing at the moment is "People Gonna Talk" by Barbara Lynn on Jamie. Certainly needs more exposure!
  18. Just had a set sale list from Lee Fisher - he wants £600 for his Mint- one.
  19. Anyone had any dealings with a chap called Albert Willemsens from Belgium (Ebay ID: jose 50000_1) ? He won an item from me on Ebay. Did not bother to read my payment terms and conditions, then messages me asking for my IBAN details, so that he can pay the money directly into my bank account. I told him that I do not accept IBAN. Since he didn't have a PayPal account, I told him to send cash registered in the post. The letter arrived this morning, UNREGISTERED. In it was a printout of my invoice, but NO MONEY! Didn't even look like the letter had been opened. It took two days to arrive from Belgium, as he claimed to have sent it Thursday. Anyway, to cut to the quick, I've informed him of this, and will instigate unpaid item procedures from Monday. Anyoe had any such dealings with this guy? He only has a feedback rating of 7, but isn't really an active bidder (he's been registered since Aug 2004). Gene

  21. Pete- I have spent the last 20 years wondering how the hell you are! If you search round the site here, you'll find my recollections of you ringing me on the occasional Saturday evening, saying that you were on your way round with your box and to have a blank C90 at the ready! Miss those days, I have to say. I also dumped the psychopath of a girlfriend I had (you know who I mean), just a week after you and I last met (Feb 1987 - jeez!), and am now happily married to a real sweetie! If it hadn't been for you Pete, I wouldn't have got to know friends like Lucy (now back in touch I'm pleased to say!), Matt Harley, Pete Crampton and Paul Merrett (now a TV chef). You've been an all-round top man - memories of us stealing lollipops from the Little Chef in Aldershot, listening to your latest purchases round my mum's flat, and the occasional farting contest all come to mind. Drop me a line to let me know how you're doing - can't wait to catch up with you! All the best, Gene Robertson PS - even my tache and hair have now gone!
  22. Blimey Pete........apart from hair, you haven't changed much!
  23. Can you spot the near pun in Sammy Strain's lawyer comment? https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6411061.stm Also, I believe Sammy Strain replaced William Powell, who died in the mid-70s. Don't suppose this is the same guy responsible for "Heartache Souvenirs", is it? Anyone know?
  24. You can't be selling yours already then Dave??????????????
  25. £35 on the Monroe Taylor and £100 on the Neptunes.
