Guess it's only a matter of time now. This has to be the WORST feedback rating I have ever come across on Ebay!

Hi Sean and Matt, If truth be told, it's actually quite a good blue-eyed uptempo group vocal, maybe a little on the surf/rockin' side. It actually appeared innocently on a few US doo-wop CD compilations over the years and, if their sources are correct, is a 1973 release. Where did you get your white vinyl copy from Sean? Never seen one before!
-
Believe it or not, this is a genuine doo-wop group vocal 45 from the early '70s! Would YOU buy a record by these guys????

More like £300 for the L. Allen and £350 for the Larry Allen, Marc............. -
I wonder if the artists name was changed to "True Patron Of the Arts" for its UK release, so that there would be no confusion over the "Queen City Showband" being mistaken for an Irish group? Quite a few called themselves Showbands at the time. Probably a question that only Larry Page himself would be able to answer.
-
Collectability on this one is twofold - the B-side is a great northern instrumental, and the B-side is a cover of "Eleanor Rigby" (on the UK release at least) - should appeal to collectors of Beatle cover versions!
-
They would more likely be shellac. It was used in the production of 78s in certain countries right up until the late '60s. 78s were still being pressed through the late '60s in countries which weren't efficiently supplied by electric. I have a few Indian 78s from 1965 - 1966 which are pressed on shellac.

The Wheelsville issue of "With These Eyes" by the Fabulous Peps. "Love Of My Life" is awesome. And NO! It is NOT on the B-side of the Wee-3 release! I was a mug to swap my Wheelsville copy for the Wee 3 issue 20 odd years ago.........TONY SMITH, COME OUT WHEREVER YOU ARE! The favours one does for friends sometimes.......D'OH!

Which would mean 100 copies of the record would be left in existence? Sounds quite a small amount compared to the copies that have probably surfaced over the past 20 or so years. -

Stuart Hamblen wrote "He Bought My Soul At Cavalry", a gospel track, in the late '40s, around the same time he wrote "This Old House" (a UK No. 1 hit for Rosemary Clooney and..gulp....Shakin' Stevens!). If I'm not mistake, I would say the first time this appeared on record would have been around 1950 - 1951. The Speer Family released it on the US Bullet label, and was covered by Jo Stafford on US Columbia around 1951.
-
The lead singer of the Soul Blenders, who recorded "Tightrope/Driving Me Mad" on Knight, was supposedely Gary Sol'e. On listening to the echoey vocals on "Driving Me Mad", I could have sworn it was actually Jim Davidson doing his 'Chalky' routine in a toilet!
-
No, but apparently Vera Lynn enacted the baby elephant sketch when she was recently interviewed - do remember, she's almost 90 years old!
-
I actually bought my first copy of "My Weakness Is You" from Chris in 1982. It was a Mint UK Tamla Motown issue, and was charged a mere £5 for the pleasure. He was selling in Record Collector at the time, and it's from one of his ads that the Edwin Starr 45 came from. I remember finding him a very approachable bloke on the phone, and very helpful. Heard from someome around the time on mentioning his name (might have been Ady C) that he was something of a practical joker at niters, indulging in such acts as tying shoelaces together under tables!
-
I also love the sides he recorded with Pete Johnson between 1939 and 1944; things like "Roll 'Em Pete", "Baby Look At You" and "Lovin' Mama Blues". I'm pleased to own the last two on original UK Parlophone 78s - surely the earliest UK releases to credit Joe Turner! My copy of "Roll 'Em Pete" is the US 78 on Columbia - anyone seen a UK 78 of this?
-
Good luck in Oz Janine - sorry I missed everything. Keep the Aussies entertained with the likes of Cecil Washington, Al Williams, The Hyperions et al...........but please keep the Rolf Harris and Kylie Minge records over there! Love, Gene xxxxx

You're right - it was followed up with a warning dance called "Do The Scratch" ( or was "The Bump" a follow-up?)
-
Wow - a really tear-jerking account of the label! How awful also, to learn that there is only one surviving member of the Cautions.
-
The Fight - Fenways Donkey and The Goat - Bunny Foote Watson Do The Freddie - Chubby Checker (dedicated to Freddie Garrity) The Screw - The Ronettes (or was it The Crystals - and can anyone show how it's done?)

Mint+ John! Is your Bernie Williams mint?
