  3. Also worth checking out the "Dusty In New York" EP, if only for 'I Wanna Make You Happy". In actual fact, ANY of her British EPs on Philips are worth picking up, and shouldn't cost a great deal either.
  4. God, I haven't seen oine of these in over 20 years! Brilliant.............and the old testament lives on!
  5. Bearsy! Just as well he wasn't known as Mikey, then we'd have Pikey Medicine.......whatever that would be! Wonder if Warren ever got a copy of this? It was on his wants list for quite a while. Any luck then Warren?
  6. Didn't even know it was booted Bogue! Should never go for this much but, then again, a lot of people have been after the Mike Pedicin 45 in any form for ages, just to have the sound.
  7. That's right - and Keb had the only known (at the time) copy of J D Bryant on Shrine from Jim, which I think is now in the hands of Mr Massey!
  8. Yes - I know that Rob Marriott bought quite a large chunk of Jim's collection around that time, including one of very few copies of Gewn Owens that don't jump. This must have been part of that buy-up.
  9. This is one record that you will probably NEVER see for sale again! First one I've seen for sale since Mark got his copy - and yes Mark, I do remember your spot when you first played it!
  10. I remember this clear as the light of day, as I loved it so much when I first heard it. It's "My Baby Can't Say No" by The Speed Limits. It was played off a 7" acetate, with a badly-typed white label. From what I can remember, there was no label identification. It was one of these records that seemed to go on forever, with an attempted fade-out about 30 seconds towards the end, but they don't give in. The end is abrupt, with a solitary "Can't say no.." from one of the group members......totally stunning! First played around summer 1988.
  11. Fingers crossed for Etta that she pulls through. There's been too much bad news on ill health in soul artists of late.
  12. A steal at half the price!
  13. Away from a real soul angle, my all-time fave LP (which brings back childhood memories when my sister bought it) is "Alton Ellis Sings Rock & Soul" on UK Coxsone. Soulwise, I would have to say "Would You Believe" by The Tempests. All but one track are absolute corkers.
  14. Being of anglo-Asian origin myself, I have NEVER witnessed or experienced ANY form of racism in 25 years of being active on the soul scene. In contrast, I have always regarded the Northern Soul scene as a melting pot of different races (Greek, Jewish, Asian, West Indian, African.....the list is endless). If truth be told, I suffered more racism on the mod scene in the early '80s than at any other time in my life after leaving school.
  15. Try spelling it right Ken! Ken - hope you're well mate. Catch up with you soon I hope!
  16. Don't you call my mate cheap!
  17. There are also very, very slight differences in the typeface for the artist and titles. You need to look very closely, but the bootleg sports a 'newer', squarer style of typeface - check it against the one on Ebay at the moment, which is a definite original.
  18. A by-product of snot?
  19. Just my dream Richard - Denise LaSalle on Brazillian wax!
  20. No probs. It's also worth noting that from around 1963, Chris Blackwell introduced the Surprise label, which issued LPs mainly for an adult audience. As well as numerous Rugby Song LPs (mainly by the Jock Strapp Ensemble), he also issued the LP "Music To Strip To". Initial copies came free with a G-string wrapped around the cover - now worth around £80 to collectors! This may explain the diverse routes Blackwell took with Island Records. Also, around the mid-60s to early-70s, other record labels were issuing records for school-leavers and graduates regarding employment opportunities. Two that come to mind are Michael Aspel and The Goons. Seems there was pretty much an influx of these things around that time.
  21. Stranger that it's also a Scottish folk record - note the A side sung by Robin Hall & Jimmy McGregor! I'd say this was only worth a great deal to label completists though. Anyone with any other ideas? Never seen or heard of this one before! Sounds almost like Chris Blackwell had a deal with the education board and issued this as a freebie to graduates encouraging them to work in the paper industry.
  22. Bump - a couple of items added
  23. Please PM me to reserve - items held for 3 days only. I accept PayPal, cheque or Postal Order. All items US originals. Thanks! JACKIE WILSON: Haunted House (Brunswick) MINT- £10 In lovely original Brunswick sleeve THE DYNETTES: New Guy (Constellation) MINT- £8 THE PRECISIONS: You're Sweet/Mexican Love Song (D-Town) EX- (light scratch on B-side NAP) £12 MARVIN L. SIMS: Now I'm In Love With You (Mellow) MINT- £30 Only selling this because I've just got a lovely white demo! JOHNNY NASH: Good Goodness/You Never Know (MGM) EX- £10 In original MGM sleeve THE DEL-CHORDS: Your Mommy Lied To Your Daddy (Mr Genius) MINT- £30 TROY DODDS: Down In Tennessee (Pent House) EX- (few swirly marks on B-side) £10 BABY WASHINGTON: There He Is (Sue) EX- £10 BILLY TAYLOR TRIO: I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free (Tower DEMO) EX- £15 FRANKIE VALLI: The Night (UK MOWEST MW 3002) EX (noc) £25 This is the first issue of The Night - however, it's missing its original centre, and someone has drawn a small A on the B-side label.
  24. Soultown was a real label, as we know. But bootlegs were released on Soultown which came out on other labels (eg, "A Case Of Love" by The Sequins and "I Worship You Baby" by The Glories). There must be more, but can't think of them right now............
  25. Can't say, as I've not heard it yet (and should be ashamed of myself!). But you're right - "I'll Forgive & Forget" is definitely up there in my all-time faves!
