IRMA THOMAS - Don't Mess With My Man (Sue) MAXINE BROWN - Oh No Not My Baby (Pye International - yellow & red label) Sorry, but not selling them - Mint copies of these have come my way via a very good friend, and I' m holding on to them. Well done lads! The Martells featuring Clifford Russell.

Er....nope! It's a group name. The female vocals are only apparent in the chorus, and then you have to listen quite hard for them. OK, clue no. 2: The lead vocalist was, and still is, a country singer. The record was a Keb Darge cover-up from around 1983/84. And clue No. 3: The first verse contains the lyric "Tears falling from my eyes".
-
How about this one then? Firist clue; their 1968 rarity, first played at Stafford, was written by a soul artist in his own right, and the lead vocalist shared the same first name as the composer.
-
From what I'm led to believe, Keb had the only copy which first belonged to Dave Withers. Both Messrs Darge and Withers played it covered up as The Silhouettes (Keb was still playing it covered up as late as 1986). In 1991, Ady Pierce auctioned what was believed to be the second known copy - I don't know what it went for, but I do remember seeing it in a list of his at the time.
-
My pleasure Ted - I'm pleased you like the record; that really does means a lot to me.

Two items sold - the rest still available........

Didn't he do the original version of Kenard Gardner's "Do The Skin", and also "Breaking Down the WALLS of Heartache"?

Exactly - the yellow boots have the complete version of Burning Sensation. The pink boots take the third bar from the intro and play that three times as the intro - in other words, it goes straight into the fast part of the intro without the slow build-up.

I've always been keen to know when the two Manhattan 45s date from - anyone know?

I shall appeal to the court of Human Rights claiming abuse and complete violation of my rights. After all, if convicted murderers waiting for deportation can use the same excuse and win their appeal, there's still hope for me.......

Think it was also issued in the UK on United Artists...........
-
As Long As She Needs Me - Carl Hall (from 'Oliver!') A Kiss To Build A Dream On - Benny Gordon (not sure what musical/film it's from, but it's a Rodgers & Hammerstein comp). Summertime - Billy Stewart OR Tommy Navarro (from 'Porgy & Bess') erm......um..... The March Of The Siamese Children - Kenny Ball's Jazzmen (from 'The King & I') ?????????????????

STEER WELL CLEAR! Can't get much plainer than that. Take it as a warning from someone who's been scammed by some low-life in Atlanta in the past.
-
Actually, they're two separate packages found unopened. If you look closely, the most expensive one has a 1967 post mark on it. I'd safely say about £800 - £1,200 for the Senator issue if it's mint - probably not a haporth's of difference to the Romark issue.
-
My first memory of soul dates back to early 1968, when my eldest brother bought "Shake" by Otis Redding on Stax, and played it at home. Every time he played it on the family's Dansette Tempo, it always used to jump in the same place on the intro!

Judging by the typeface, looks Detroit to me.............

About time I stood up in defence for a long-time good friend. Pete is 100% genuine, and would not rip ANYONE off. His main aim is to keep the customer happy, as he does his friends and I should know! I'm sure I'm far from alone in my sentiments. Pete - chin up mate. Don't let some playground bully even try to beat you down. Stand your ground, and the best of luck. Gene
