  1. To be honest Chris, the bottom label looks more like a scanned label stuck on a bootleg or a carver, with an "X" drawn on for effect. Are you sure there's a recent spate of Minit boots of this?
  2. Al Martino is more popcorn than anything else. And there's this from Buddy Greco - on US Epic and UK Columbia.
  3. AL MARTINO: Two Hearts Are Better Than One (UK Top Rank). EX. £15 HARVEY AVERNE DOZEN: The Micro Mini (US Atlantic) EX (writing on label, BB hole, very slight lift). £10. P&P: UK - £1.30 (registered £2.40), EUROPE - £3.80 (registered £8.80). REST OF WORLD - £5.00 (registered £10.00) Payment by PayPal only please (I will pay the fees). Please PM if interested. Thanks, Gene
  4. They may find that they'll sell more if they at least attach a tone-arm to it......................
  5. Yes it does. But to put a finer point on it, the pink boot misses out the first two bars which have the slow start. The third bar is repeated three times, so you hear the faster start bar three times. If buying a boot of this, best to avoid the pink ones and get a yellow one instead (or one of Paul Kyser's lookalike represses if the price is right). The quality is also miles better.
  6. It was booted at least four times during the 70s, and these are the ones I know to be boots: 1. Styrene pressing, dark blue label. Split-second missing from start of "We're So Lonely". 2. Styrene pressing, white label, no lines, large run-out area, appalling sound quality (low-fi). Again, a split-second missing from start of "We're So Lonely". 3. Vinyl pressing, light blue label (exactly the same label as the original and an excellent lookalike), but with a very narrow run-out on the A-side 4. Vinyl pressing with a bevelled edge, blue label, no lines, completely different typeface. The blue label original resembles No. 3 above, but should have a faint 'Bell Sound' or similar stamp and a run-out area of about 1". Also issued with two different yellow labels (lined and unlined). This was never booted with a yellow label. Hope this helps as a starter.
  7. Frank, This looks to me like an East or West African release (eg, Kenya, Nigeria, Rhodesia etc).
  8. DUSTY SPRINGFIELD: Dusty In New York (UK Philips EP) NOW SOLD - THANKS! LIve It Up / I Want Your Love Tonight / I Wanna Make You Happy / Now That You're My Baby COVER: EX- (small crease top left of front cover) RECORD: EX+ £20 plus P&P
  9. Also avoid selling to resound_records - the spiteful, childish feedback he leaves for others speaks for itself.
  10. Nothing sad about asking at all. The only sad thing is that someone actually wanted to steal that pile of crap!
  11. Not strictly true. The original released was indeed "The LAWS of Love". "The RULES of Love" was never issued - only demos with this title exist. The only copies I've seen (and I can count them on one hand) have "Rules" scored out in pen and "Laws" handwritten above it.
  12. Sounds more like second-rate funk bilge than northern soul.
  13. Washed out and Worn out love, all right.
  14. Sorry Jordrip - I amended my post when I realised my mistake. The burgundy boot has Canterbury in block lettering, but the burgundy original replicates the real Canterbury label.
  15. "Countdown" by the Tempos was booted on a burgundy label, but is also issued as an original with a burgundy label. There were two issues of the original; one on the normal yellow label, and a dark burgundy label with silver lettering. Boots of "Countdown" are on styrene with a light blue label, which replicate the original label, and a burgundy/silver label with "Canterbury" in block letters.
  16. Or for a more faithful soundalike, buy a US copy of "Mrs Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" by Hermans Hermits on MGM for about £2 - slightly cheaper than the UK Columbia EP of the same name.
  17. Why do I think of "Mrs Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" by Hermans Hermits when I hear the intro?

  19. Were the two Tom Sanders bits on Portra ("I'll Get To That" and "Doing Bad" - Robert & Tom Sanders) played as new releases, or picked up a couple of years later? Similarly, what about "No Stranger To Love" by Glenda McLeod? I know this has always been rare on original, but would it still have been picked up as a new release at the time? Does anyone know who was the first to spin it? I believe Stuart Cosgrove found the first handful, but was he actually the first DJ to play it?
  20. Six. You forgot the Frank Popp Ensemble! There's also: Call On Me - Barbara Mercer / Bobby Bland I'll Be Around - Detroit Spinners / Gino Washington I Still Love You - The Seven Souls / The Superlatives / The Casinos / Ann Sexton / Cody Black / The Four Larks / Harry Deal & The Galaxies Tell Her - Jimmy 'Soul Clark / Dean Parrish What Am I Gonna Do - Gloria Scott / Eddie Daye & The Four Bars Don't Pity Me - Joanie Sommers / Sue Lynne I'm So Lonely - Dan Brantley / Smoke Plus loads more which I can't think of right now. But it looks like "I Still Love You" is a close contender to Breakaway.
  21. Great record - and it even namechecks Bruce Forsyth in the fifth line of the first verse!
  22. Result!
  23. Quite. Also avoid O. Rodger Harris from Richmond, Indiana - on Ebay as resound-records. One very nasty piece of work, and probably on a par to The Count. He's a buyer and seller, with a very bad feedback record. Sold him a few UK EPs last week, all strictly graded. He sends me a message for one saying "A FEW LIGHT MARKS, MY ASS. THIS DISK WAS BEAT ALL TO HELL! RECTIFY ---- IMMEDIATELY." . Another dickhead who permanently uses caps. No way was the said record 'beat to hell' - it was a strong VG+ - a few light marks, played great, and definitely nothing deep. The EP was only £3, so as it wasn't much I refunded him and told him to keep it. I did report his abusive messages and rudeness to Ebay - not just in this message, but another one. I made it clear to him that he had been reported, and also blocked from bidding on my auctions. He responded with: "I HAVE RESPONDED TO YOUR REMARKS ABOUT "RUDENESS & "BAD ATTITUDE". THIS IS MY WAY OF "REPORTING YOU TO EBAY". RODGER HARRIS". His way of reporting me, of course, was to leave unjustified negative feedback. Thankfully, it was removed by Ebay this morning after they decided that it falls in the "unacceptable feedback" category. Thinking back, I did receive a postal list from him in 1992 (where he got my address from is anyone's guess), and spotted about 20-25 records I wanted. Nothing special in that lot, but when I phoned him and asked him about them, he answered "that's gone" to EVERY record I asked for. I knew he just didn't want to sell to me, so I eventually told him I thought his attitude stunk, and hung up on him. Check his feedback on Ebay, and it's none too impressive. Another nut-job buyer/seller in the US to avoid!
  24. My old friend Pete Myles covered uk "So Glad We Made It" by Nicky James on UK Philips as "So Glad" by Bobby F*k-Nose!
