  1. Sorry Pete - mistook it for one of Mr Rounce's posts for some unknown reason (sorry Tony)! Been a stressful day (that's my excuse)! Thanks for bringing it to my attention BTW - almost forgot about it!! Have amended my OP!
  2. And while we're at it, here's another 'pop' record that always gives me itchy feet, but it's too fast for me to dance to these days!
  3. You're not wrong there Pete! Brilliant record - I've liked this since it was in the charts 35 years ago, but never once associated it with sounding at all Northern. Not bad for a bunch of Opportunity Knocks winners - and I mean that most sincerely folks! So if JM wants £22 for a stock copy, what does it make this one worth? Not that I would sell it, mind!
  4. BEST: Frankie & The Classicals - What Shall I Do WORST: The Fugutives - Human Jungle
  5. Recently sold mine for £25 - was near mint, but had a bit of writing on the label. I'd say, realistically, £35 - £40 for a mint white demo (though one major dealer wants £75 for theirs!).
  6. Most soulful - Lonely Girl (instrumental B-side ) - Eric Mercury Orchestra Least soulful - Condition Red - Baltimore & Ohio Marching Band
  7. Take it that the instrumental is actually taken from a master copy of the backing track, as (don't know if it's the same for Vernon Garrett), the same-looking boots of Lay This Burden Down by Mary Love have the instrumental which opens up with a great count-in (presumably Arthur Wright), clapping along as he shouts "1, 2, 1-2-3" - awesome!
  8. Love the way that "Plomaritis" (as in Plomaritis Records) takes credit as the co-writer for If That's What You Wanted!
  9. Brilliant Morgen! Best April fool wind-up I've come across this year - almost had me riveted! I've sent off my bids, and I'm just waiting back for a personal response from U. F. Bindun or Pal Lofori (interesting anagram here)!
  10. Such a shame it's gone. I only walked past there last Saturday, hoping to go in. Then I saw the "closed due to stocktaking" sign. I'd frequent there from around 1979 (either before or after checking out one of the cinema clubs in the area) to the mid-90s and had some lovely finds, mostly at a quid. This was at the time the shop also had a market stall outside it. Probably my best find was a Bobby Guitar Wood on Colt for £1 (yes, the original complete with gold label!). Always remember copious amounts of "Fife Piper" by the Dynatones on HBR, "I Can't Make It Anymore" by Spyder Turner on MGM, "Jump Back In The Arms Of Love" by Bobbi Lynn (the Bobbi Lynns were all water-stained). It even helped stock up my 50s and 60s UK chart hit collection, many records from this section were Mint unplayed in original sleeves. Think my first one of those was a Mint "Guitar Tango" by The Shadows on Columbia for 80p. During one of my last visits there in 1995, when 45s were relegated to a small wooden box in the corner of the shop, I found a lovely Pye acetate of "That's What Mama Said" by Leonard Whiting for 25p. Wish I'd had the hindsight to have picked up the Four Seasons EPs on Vee-Jay for £1 each - damn! Well, it was the early '80s, and I had no idea about what they'd be worth. Suffice is to say I shall definitely be mourning the loss of Cheapo Cheapo, albeit with fond memories.
  11. Excellent record - and even sold enough copies here to enter the UK Top 20 in November 1958.
  12. Sal Mineo was murdered in 1972 when he disturbed a burglary at his home.
  13. Stefan, I thought your posts were more than self-explanatory and contradicts all you've said in your post above: Hi GEne - Is shipping included or how much is it for standard shipping? Im living in Denmark. And are you willing to include an invoice with the record. BEst,Stefan And when I responded that I don't work by sending invoices: Hi Stefan, Registered post to Denmark is £5. I won't send by normal post, as too many packages have gone missing in the past, and I have ended up out of pocket. Total will be £30 (£25 for Pat Lewis and £5 for P&P) I only accept PayPal from abroad. I do not work with invoices, nor do I send records out without first receiving payment. Let me know if you're still interested. I can send you an online PayPal invoice to advise you of costs, and this should be paid in advance. Your response to this was: Hi Gene - Im sorry im little short these days so I cant buy anything without an invoice. Best, Stefan I then, for obvious reasons, called the deal off.
  14. What are the terms Santa? That you expect the seller to send you the records with an invoice until you can afford to pay for them, like you expected me to????
  15. This does tend to turn up on Ebay fairly frequently. And yes - it's usually "Someone Tell Her" with a WDJ label and "I'll Live On" with a yellow issue label (or the other way round?). I'd say a more realistic price would be £1,800 top whack for a minter, and around £800 for a VG copy. Lovely tune though - certainly sounds much earlier than its supposed September/October 1967 release date.
  16. It's true Tony - it does exist. I saw (and held) the copy that belonged to Lance Corbin in the early '80s. Lance was a mate of Dave Frickers who owned the House of Wax in Kentish Town, where I hung out regularly in the late '70s/early 80s.
  17. I found an original copy of The Next in Line by Hoagy Lands on Laurie in a shop in Wellington, New Zealand 8 years ago. Also, in the same shop, a UK issue of Hey Good Lookin' by Bo Diddley on Chess.
  18. The Purple Gang's "Granny Takes A Trip" was one of the first releases on Big T, and now a psych collectable. Had their LP "The Purple Gang Strikes", but this was on Translantic.
  19. I know it's low at the moment, but with a day or two to go, I can see it going for moer......er sorry, more!
  20. Recorded P&P in the UK: £2. Outside the UK: £6. I accept PayPal (no fees), cheque or PO. Please PM me to reserve any items. All records held for three days only. 'Sensible' offers considered. THE EMOTIONS: I Can't Stand No More Heartaches (Brainstorm) MINT- £10 LIZA-MAE: I Got A Juicy Mouth Baby (Concept) MINT £60 Same backing track as "7 Days 52 Weeks" by Cody Michaels - A-side label on both sides THE MODS: Dry My Eyes (Fona) VG-/VG £50 This looks like a skating rink - it is covered in light surface marks, but actually plays VG+. Small pressure flaw not affecting play YVONNE GOMEZ: My Man A Go Go (Hawaii) MINT- £30 JOHNNY DAYE: Good Time (Jomada) MINT- (light sticker mark on label) £15 CHARLES MANN: Hey Little Girl (Lanor) EX £20 THE CHANDELIERS: Stop Dragging My Heart Around / Fading Day (Loadstone) MINT £30 Excellent double-sider THE CHANDELIERS: Double Love / It's A Good Thought (Loadstone) MINT- £25 As above - another brilliant double-sider THE PEPPERS: Little Piece Of Paper (Press WDJ) MINT- £30 THE FABULOUS APOLLOS: Some Good In Everything Bad (Valtone) VG+ £50 Same backing track as "The One Alone", plus instrumental B-side
  21. Contrary to a £20 - £30 valuation some years ago, I've not seen this sell for more than £10 - £15.
  22. I've always believed that the three hardest Action 45s are "Take It Baby" by The Showmen and "I Surrender" by Eddie Holman and "Omar Khayyam" by The Rubiyats. Only had one copy of The Showmen and Eddie Holman over the past 27 years, but seen ample copies of Dee Dee Sharp, Little Carl Carlton and Bobby Patterson. I've never seen The Rubiyats!
  23. PM'd you Thorsten!
  24. I wouldn't say you've been ripped off at all - I think it could easily go for double.
