  1. Sounds like Bernard Bresslaw trying to fake an American accent!
  2. Is there any truth in the rumour that there's going to be an update to Going Out, 27 years on? It's thought that it's going to be called "Coming Out"!
  3. Remember it well from late-1982. One of the girls (can't remember her name) had tooth braces but, get rid of those, and she was a cracking bit of stuff!
  4. And now for something completely different - "Baby Please Don't Go" by Jo Ann Henderson on a 78! I've currently got this on a 5-day auction on Ebay, and it ends on Monday 2 November - see link below: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220502068351&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT OK, so not everyone collects 78s these days, but fingers crossed! Gene
  5. Nice copy of "Nothing But Heartaches / He Holds His Own" by The Supremes on UK Tamla Motown (TMG 527). Grades as EX+ (no centre), with original orange company sleeve. £20 plus P&P (£2.20 in UK, £6 overseas). Please PM me to reserve - item held for 3 days only. See label scan. Thanks, Gene
  6. Nice copy of "Walking Up A One Way Street / Thank You John" by Willie Tee on UK Atlantic (584116). Grades as EX. £40 plus P&P (£2.20 in UK, £6 overseas). Please PM me to reserve - item held for 3 days only. See label scan. Thanks, Gene
  7. It was covered up as "Gonna Have To Put You Down" by The Vondells - a Tony Clayton and Ion spin from arond '83. Sold my copy for £30 recently to a well-known ex-pat in Japan.
  8. The boots are pressed on vinyl with, I think, a yellow DJ label. They were pressed a short while before all those copies were found at the start of 2000.
  9. Mal forgot to add that this is actually the Thomas Henry cut released under a pseudonym! Highly recommended buy - has a good version of Sam Cooke's "Shake" on the flip side too (am I right Mal? See you for a coffee on Friday).
  10. Yep Mark - I do belive it is she of 77 Sunset Strip fame!
  11. You should be able to get the Ray Charles on HMV for no more than about £3 - was a UK Top 10 hit, so there's quite a few of them around.
  12. The Tower recording was produced by Joe Meek in 1963, along with four other tracks (these other tracks were relased on UK Columbia, against Tom Jones' will). The two UK Columbia 45s ("Little Lonely One/That's What We'll All Do" and "Lonely Joe/I Was A Fool) were released in 1965, in a bid to cash in on Tom Jones' fame with "It's Not Unusual" hitting the No. 1 spot. "Chills & Fever" on Tower was released in 1966, ONLY in the USA (for reasons we will probably never know). The Decca cut of Chills & Fever was released in 1964, as Tom Jones' first UK single.
  13. The US Tower release is the version produced by Joe Meek, which didn't get a release anywhere else. The RGM Sound connection is the one thing that gives this a (justifiably) high price tag. The UK Decca release is a totally different cut - this is the release which is worth only about £40.
  14. Funny you should mention that Macca - on a rummage last weekend, I found a batch of about 20 yiddish 78s from around the 20s/30s on UK Columbia. TThey were British pressings, but all title and artist credits were in Hebrew. Suffice is to say, I didn't have any of them, but it kinda backs up what you said about Jewish immigrants in New York. They were also the key (sole?) immigrant group in East London at the turn of the 1900s. They were mostly responsible for the tailoring industry in that area.
  15. Nice one Jaco! Would be interesting to see if there's anything earlier.
  16. Couldn't attach labels in first post, so here they are (taken from Popsike).
  17. For a long while, I thought the first white artist to record for Okeh (which, ostensibly, was a label for black artists) was Johnnie Ray - "Cry / The Little White Cloud That Cried" was released on Okeh's "Rhythm & Blues Series" in 1951. I now find out that jazz artist Bix Beiderbecke may have been the first white artist on Okeh - his career on the label dates back as far as 1924. Can anyone pre-date this?
  18. In a talent contest between the two, I'd pick Barney Gumble's burp song.
  19. Erm.........."Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus" by Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg
  20. From Vietnam With Love - L. Cpl Charles E. Scott (Attack) https://waxidermy.com/l-cpl-charles-e-scott-usmc-from-vietnam-with-love/ Wasn't "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" also an anti-war/protest record?
  21. The Shag is a dance specifically for dancing couples. It can be done on ones own, but then it's known as The W*nk
  22. Yep, you're right there Mikey - usually followed up with "here it comes".
  23. From what I can see in the pics, there are two reissues that command fairly decent money: SALVADORS: Stick By Me Baby (Wise World): Seen it selling for around £25. RUFUS WOOD: Before 2001 (Espanola - Black lettering): Paid £30 for mine, but heard of it selling for £100.
  24. Word of warning when buying the Bandy "reissue". There are two different presses: 1. BANDY in script typeface, small title lettering: One of the double-track vocals is missing, and there is a split-second distortion about 20 secs before the end. 2. BANDY in block typeface: Pressed at the wrong speed, as if it's playing at +2.
  25. Also known as "skimming" or "polishing", to remove non-penetrative surface marks. Direct steam on the record creates the same effect. Only seems to work with UK records though.
