One word - laughable. Sounds like the sort of record given free with 12 empty packets of Smiths Crisps, or a budget LP released by Music for Pleasure.

Sunnysoul's post of the original version of Lost Summer Love by Shelley Fabares reminded me that the A and B sides of the Lorraine Silver are both cover versions of the A and B sides of the Shelley Fabares single release on Vee-Jay (Lost Summer Love / I Know You'll Be There).

Not far off Peter. 13 actually. Born in 1952, and released "Lost Summer Love" in August 1965.

Yep - as much as a Marmite record as it is, and rather old hat, it's still a key record and a nice rare UK demo as well. I think it will go to a UK collector.

At the time of posting this, there's four days to go and it's already at £181.79. Lovely white demo - but what do you think the finishing price will be? He may well have done, but his version wasn't a UK hit. Only became a hit when covered by The Osmonds a few months after H. B's release.

Aside of the label having its only UK No. 1 hit with "No Charge" by J. J. Barrie, its only other UK chart hit was "Who's Gonna Love Me" by The Imperials (cover of the Alfie Davidson original), which went to No. 17 in January 1978.

As this was the 1971 Christmas edition of TOTP, I think he was definitely the worse for wear due to the BBC's Christmas drinks hospitality, and had to leave the stage either to throw up, or because he was making a twat of himself. If you look at the clip of Ashton Gardner & Dyke performing "The Resurrection Shuffle" later on in the same edition, Ashton is so p*ssed that he fluffs most of the words (yes, a live singer on TOTP)!

According to Arthur Conley on Sweet Soul Music, Lou Rawls sang "Love's a hurtin' ding-dong". And in "Girl I Love You" by The Temptones - "at first I thought she was a lavatory seat".

I had one of the 'white demos' in the early 90s, bought directly from the States. I'm sure it had a "music city" matrix on it - if that shines any light on when it was pressed at all.
