  1. Yes - it's a reissue of a US budget LP, "Miss Etta James" which was originally issued on Crown in the early '60s. It's a compilation of some of the sides she recorded for Modern around 1955 / 56. Good LP though, and worth buying if only for "Roll With Me Henry" and "Good Rockin' Daddy". I should also mention that the Crown LP had a plain art sleeve, and no picture of ANY artist. Sadly, it's not the first time that Etta James identity has been compromised. When "The Pick-Up" was 'released' in Jamaica on Kent, it was called "Crazy Feelings" and was credited to Donna Hightower (see scan below)! Guess that's what one of the sound system DJs played it as to stop their rivals getting a copy!
  2. I remember looking over your shoulder whilst you were reading the said Soul Bowl list Chris! Quite a reasonable price 28 years ago!
  3. I've had caked-in sellotape stains like that on LP covers - easy to clean off laminated LP covers with a bit of lighter fuel and loads of elbow grease, but not worth the risk of tearing record labels with the same sort of pressure. Personally, if it doesn't come off in a light clean with lighter fuel, I'd leave it as it is.
  4. Flip over to the original A-side of "Stop & Take A Look At Yourself" by The Shalimars for "Baby" - excellent ballad.
  5. Very sad news. It's also sad coincidence that man who discovered her, Johnny Otis, also died this week.
  6. Yes.......but note the caveat emptor: This is not the original pressing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having said that, I put my London copy on Ebay last November (with a starting bid of £10), specifically stating that it was the legitimate UK issue from 1977, with Bobby Paris on the flip. Had about 8 bids, and the winner got it for £44. BTW, is 'original pressing' an oxymoron?
  7. Even at £7.50 he'll be STCUK with it! Jo Aramdrad? The guy who phoned him with the label details must have been pissed at the time.....

  9. In terms of pressing plant, what's the difference between the orange / green OOTP label, and the plain white ones pressed on styrene? My memory is that the white styrene OOTP series were really poor sound quality; whilst loud, they were really tinny.
  10. Blues Busters - I Can't Believe That You're Gone/Since You've Been Gone - Bra £65 And at that price, 'I can't believe that it's not gone' yet'! Awesone double-sider and bargain of the list, I'd say.......

  12. They sure did Ken - red, blue, green and transparent from what I can remember.
  13. Larry 'Chubby' Reynolds on Tri-Spin.......
  14. I thought about that as well. Wonder if, due to demand in the UK, pressings were specifically outsourced to overseas pressing plants to satisfy the demand in the UK? In the 70s, not only were there US issues abundant in the UK singles charts, but also Dutch and French pressings, which leads me to believe the 'outsourcing to meet the UK demand' theory.
  15. Sounds exactly like Ike and Tina Turner's version played in a toilet, with echo and low-fi.
  16. June 1967, I believe (on US Columbia only). I think Darrell Banks' version was also an early '67 release, which I guess would make Stevie Wonder's version the original.
  17. Well, I'm afraid to say......yes......... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dana-Vallery-You-Dont-Know-Your-Interests-Lies-Pussycat-Northern-Soul-/140625571374?pt=UK_Records&hash=item20bdefee2e
  18. On my watch list - be interesting to see what it ends up going for.
  19. During the early '80s (about 1983), Ian Clark had a lot of them for sale (if I'm not wrong he picked them up at a French flea market). I can remember him selling the Ray Pollard "The Drifter" EP on French UA for around £18. I think that went to Craig Brick. Think he also had a James Carr EP on French Stateside and a Hesitations EP on French Kapp (not seen one from the Netherlands yet!), The Sapphires ("Ive Got Mine You Better Get Yours" EP) on French Columbia, amongst numerous nice others. The only decent soul one I've found cheaply in the UK is the "You Better Go" EP by Derek Martin (shared EP with Shawn Elliott), on French Roulette with two different covers; one plain black with the tracks listed on the front, and another with the track listing against a pic of a topless female.
  20. Cheers Rich - I stand corrected! Even with them being yellow labels, I'm sure the one with the "Agent 00 Soul" credits (as opposed to "Agent Double-O Soul") must be rare in themselves - never seen one.
  21. Blimey - never seen any of the orange label Ric-Tic issues! Haven't they got to be the rarest stock copies of Agent 00 Soul?
  22. Like Northern Soul originals, US Rockabilly originals have been heavily booted as lookalikes since the mid '70s. This would be a vinyl 'reissue', as it wasn't originally released. Bet the vinyl boot looks neat with an Audiodisc label though!
  23. Some sellers are just so full of **it.............
  24. Some are very "rear"? Now that's what you call a bum comment!
  25. NOW SOLD - THANKS FOR THE INTEREST! OK, here's the run down on this. The record has a lot of light surface marks, typically stored without a sleeve for ages. There are some small scratches which cause a few background clicks here and there, but the music overpowers any noise, and rings through loud and clear. There is also a name written on the label and some water damage (see scan). I would grade this as VG-, as it makes a decent play copy with some clicks, and would make an ideal DJ copy (in other words, fine for DJing!). £20 plus registered P&P (£2 in UK, £6 rest of world) PM ME IF INTERESTED - NO LONGER RESERVING ITEMS, SO FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. PAYPAL ONLY - NO CHEQUES, CASH OR POSTAL ORDERS.
