Looking at it, I'd say it was original, though from the description, it looks like a Canadian LP on Quality in an American sleeve (note the Arctic logo). Don't know if the sleeves were exported to Canada to jacket Canadian LPs; guess it's possible, as that sort of thing went on with British sleeveless LPs and EPs exported to America during the 50s and 60s; they were housed in American sleeves for sale to the US market. The story I heard about the number of demos pressed for UK records (particularly in the '60s) was 99 copies. However, I don't know if this story has confused itself with the "99 copies only" rule of a few independent UK labels during the '60s. Some very small UK labels (eg, Oak, Triumph etc) only pressed up 99 copies of some of their releases to avoid paying purchase tax, which was apparently payable on any batch of over 100 copies. Mainly the reason for '60s records such as the Bo Street Runners EP on Oak being so rare. Maybe Mick Smith can confirm, or correct the rumour? Gene

The Four Seasons version of "I'm Gonna Change" was, as far as known, only available on their US only LP, "New Gold Hits". The only 45 release of it was on the B-side of the late-70s bootleg of "You're Ready Now" by Frankie Valli, on Smash, pressed up in a choice of red, blue or clear vinyl. As I wasn't around on the scene until 1982, I'm sorry that I can't give any further info on when or where it was played - maybe the next post or two will reveal all? Sorry to disagree on only one point mate (just a matter of taste, you understand!), but the Velours version of "I'm Gonna Change" is one of my all-time faves, however Frankie V's boys do carry it off well!!! In fact, theirs was the first version I heard of "I'm Gonna Change" 22 years ago! PS - Hard to believe that the Velours became the Fantastics, best known for their UK 1971 Top 10 hit "Something Old, Something New"!! They sound completely different, and there were only 4 years between the two singles!! Gene

For those of you who own "We Live in The Ghetto" by the Four Voices, be sure to flip it over (if you haven't already done so) for the equally stunning B-side "Summer Kind Of Love"!! It's actually the side I've played the most for the past 15 years. Have seen it sell for anything between £40 - £80. Gene

Actually, after a check, I think the seller could well be right. You see, on the original, END is printed in blue, but it is a much darker shade of blue than the top and bottom of the label. The one advertised has END in the same shade of blue. If it is a re-issue, I've never seen it in this form - unusual. Gene

Just had a look - I'm confused, as on a close look, the label looks typical of some End issues, in that the bit round the centre looks to be hanging off, due to poor quality glue. Same thing can be said about a lot of Arock and Shrine releases (in some cases, there is no label at all!). On the other hand, didn't the original have "END" printed in white lettering rather than blue? Or am I wrong? Gene

Hmm, yes.......reminds me of a saga from a few years ago. Someone did try the colour photocopy scam and put a lot of pressings with such labels on auction. His cover was blown when a well-known dealer went round to his house, looking through the records, then a label fell off one of them!! I guess the rule of "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware) applies in all these situations, though it is a truly despicable act. Having said that, would be interesting to know about the Lenny Curtis, and whether the defo orig has gone on sale mistakenly. Gene

"Tomorrow" by the Webs on Popside is absolutely smashing!! Also came out on UK London, which can be bought relatively cheaply. Also worth mentioning "I've Got Mine You Better Get Yours" by the Sapphires on Swan, available for about £20 or far less on Ebay!! The final release on Windy C, "Change of Pace" by the 5 Stairsteps is also worth looking out for. Like all the Windy C 45s, it can be picked up for about £5, but sounds like it should be worth 50 times this amount!! Gene

Here's my favourite picture of Timi, which I though I'd share with you all. It's from the front cover of her 1965 UK LP "The Best of Timi Yuro (Liberty LBY 1290). It contains the only UK release of another Northern classic, "Insult To Injury". Gene

Never before have I been prompted to admit that the death of someone I admire brings a lump to my throat; however, that is the case with Timi Yuro. I first got to know her music through a close relative when I was so young. Since then, she has been the one female vocalist I have had the greatest admiration for, so learning about her death is indeed a very sad time. God bless you Timi........ FROM bobbyvee.net: April 1, 2004 Timi Yuro dead at age 62 Timi Yuro succumbed to brain cancer Tuesday afternoon (March 30) in Las Vegas at the age of 62. Timi was born Rosemarie Yuro in Chicago in 1941. Her family moved to Los Angeles when she was nine and opened an Italian restaurant, where Timi began singing. She signed with Liberty Records when she was 18 and placed eleven songs on the charts in a five year period, including the #4 song, "Hurt", as well as "Make The World Go Away" and "What's A Matter Baby (Is It Hurting You)". Timi had been plagued by throat problems throughout her career. She retired in the '70s, and after surgery to remove nodules from her vocal cords, she was ordered by doctors to temporarily suspend talking, let alone singing. But when "Hurt" became a surprise #1 hit in the Netherlands twenty years after its success in the U.S., she resumed performing and touring, playing to sold-out concert halls throughout Europe. Her health problems continued, though. Timi lost her larynx to throat cancer two years ago and then was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor-a battle she finally lost. She passed away peaceful in her sleep at her Las Vegas home. Plans are for her body to be cremated and the ashes scattered on her parents' graves in Cicero, Illinois, near Chicago. Gene.
