  4. Hi mate, Can't do CSC on Friday I'm afraid - but I'll be at Soul In The City on Weds 2 June. Hopefully see you there over a beer or two. Gene PS - not the BBC site with all the lyrics to the Tweenie's tunes is it? Don't ask me how I know tho!!!
  5. I'm sure they did.......or maybe I'm just trying to "curry favour"!!
  6. Looks like they done the same thing with "To Win Your Heart" by Laura Lee as well Ian. Looks like a hard vinyl booty......... Being as they're really Beatle specialists, wonder if they're actually aware? Gene
  7. When I was a kid, I used to think a lyric in "Saturday Night At The Movies" by the Drifters went "The chapati in the neighbourhood is dressing up to be there too..."!! Or the lyric from "Do What You Gotta Do" by the Four Tops that sounds like; "I loved you better than your own kidney...." Gene
  8. Good point Mikey - unless they told me it was the original version by Eddie Foster on the IN label!! Johnny - I remember when Tony Ellis played a similar prank at the 100 Club in 1983. He faded in the intro to "Monkey Spanner" by Dave and Ansel Collins, much to everyone's confusion and to his mate peeing himself rolling up laughing!! Gene
  9. I was watching a good documentary on Kool & The Gang on ITV last night. There was film of them doing "Jungle Boogie", and I swear they actually sang "Chunder Boogie"!!!! Gene
  10. I was in Allied Carpets in Lewisham two Sundays ago when "Do I Love You" by Frank Wilson was aired over the shop - couldn't work out why!! It was the original - not the shite remix that was given away with the Sunday People a while back, so wonder what their source was?? Gene
  11. Hippo, That sure is the one!!! Many thanks for posting that here - made me a really happy man you have, more so knowing it will be the only other chance of hearing it!!! Presume Butch has the only other known copy. Are you the lucky man who got Andy's copy? Tony - I was sitting at a table in front of the bar. Sorry I missed you; how many beers is that I owe you now for missed ops? Gene
  12. Sounds like that could be it Hippo!!! Label did look a dark blue. You got one then? What does it go for? Gene
  13. Just woken up after an excellent nite at the 100 Club - some excellent sets played!! One record which grabbed my attention is being played by Butch at the mo - all I could find out about it is that it's by Arthur Wallace (I guess that's how it's spelt). Anyone know any details on it (title, label etc?). Sorry about vagueness of detail here, but when I asked Butch about it while he was on, the only answer I got (with a smile) was "Arthur Wallace"!! It was too dark to see the labels on the decks, so that didn't help either!! What I can tell you it's that it's a neat organ-lead male vocal at about the same pace as style as "Sweete'n" by Wilbur Reynolds. It was Butch's second spin in his 2 - 2.30am spot. Thanks - any help, as always, appreciated...... Gene
  14. Isn't this the same guy who played Fagin in the film "Oliver"?? Anyone know it? https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4013225594&rd=1 And furthermore, does it sound anything like "You've Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two"????? Gene
  15. Hi Ian, Yes, I know!! Price has got beyond ridiculous for Greg Perry. I even flinched when I heard that the supposed correct price these days should be between £30 - £40!! I bought mine for £2 (Keb's old copy) in 1982, about 8 months after it was a new release!!! As the lyrics should dictate; "It takes heart to get up, It takes mugs to pay up!" Gene
  16. Hehehehehe!!!!! :-) You must have been well chuffed to be a 2nd place lookalike of me Tone!!
  17. Actually Tone, is there any truth in the rumour that you won 2nd prize in a Brad Pitt lookalike competition? Apparently, the 1st prize went to a coloured fellow!! (not it wasn't me, honest!!!) :-)
  18. Ere - I'll have you know that I won first prize in a rock n'roll dance contest in our local pub last night......... ....and I only got up to go to the loo!!!
  19. Hehehehe!!!
  20. FROM www.bbc.co.uk American R&B singer John Whitehead, best known for the 1979 hit song Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, has been shot dead in Philadelphia. The 55-year-old musician was shot in the neck while he and another man, also wounded, were mending his car in the street. The assailant fled. Whitehead and singing partner Gene McFadden were both former members of The Epsilons, managed by Otis Redding. After a brief stint in jail for tax evasion, Whitehead went solo in 1988. McFadden was reported to have been devastated by the news of his colleague's death. He attended the scene of the crime in the city's West Oak Lane neighbourhood where Whitehead was earlier shot in the neck. The other man shot in the incident was taken to hospital. Both McFadden and Whitehead were born in Philadelphia in 1948, joining The Epsilons as teenagers. The group's career took off during a two-year tour singing backing vocals for Otis Redding in the 1960s, but the quintet split up following Redding's untimely death. Subsequently, McFadden and Whitehead joined the Philadelphia International label where they focused on their producing and songwriting skills. Notable hits on the songwriting front included Wake Up Everybody for Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and Back Stabbers for The O'Jays. The pair also wrote for artists including The Jacksons, James Brown and Gladys Knight and The Pips, winning over 20 gold discs. Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, later covered by Luther Vandross, sold more than eight million records and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
