  1. Best of order - thank you please Steve!!!! Ahh - memories of Colin Crompton and his Wheeltappers & Shunters Social Club!!
  2. Rather than "Thanks For A Little Lovin'", which I think was completely irrelevant and inappropriate, they could have done better by using any of the following for a documentary about wife-swapping: IRMA THOMAS: (You Can Have My Husband But) Don't Mess With My Man A C REED: My Baby's Been Cheatin' THE LAVELLS: Share Him DIONNE WARWICK: You Can Have Him BIG JOE TURNER: Two Loves Have I WILLIAMS & WATSON: Two For The Price Of One SOUL SET, I Don't Want Her (But I Need HER!) MILT GRAYSON: Your Old Stand By THE CAIROS: Stop Overlooking Me BETTY BAKER: Marching Out Of Your Life ...or would have it been better to ditch the Northern idea and used "Swing" music instead?
  3. I have a Mint lookalike re-issue LP on GSF for sale at £15 if anyone's interested. PM me if you are. Gene
  4. I've got a feeling that Chuck Holiday on Gloria sells for about £800 - £1,000, when it turns up. I think the last copy on Ebay went for something like just over $1,600. Also has a good B-side (can't remember the title) which I heard John Weston play recently. Gene
  5. Got 'em crossed Bill - good luck!! Gene
  6. As a further bit of help Pete, keep tabs via Soul Source of up and coming nights in Manchester, particularly the New Century Soul Club niters (and the warm-ups prior to them). Get along to a niter or two, as you'll always find dealers selling records there who may even be able to play some for you if they have a player. To help you on your way, here's a list of recommended sounds all currently available for under £20 - I did a similar list for Supercorsa a few months back: hope this helps. FIVE STAIRSTEPS: Change Of Pace (Windy C) THE MAGIC TONES: It's Better To Love (Mah's) SAMMY LEE: Rosetta (Commerce) VERNON GARRETT: If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time (Modern) MARY WELLS: Can't You See (You're Losing Me) (Atco - also UK Atlantic) MISS MADELINE: Lonely Girl/Behave Yourself (Mar-V-Lus) JIMMY ROBINS: I Can't Please You (Jerhart) DOLLY & THE FASHIONS: The Right One/Just Another Fool (Ivanhoe) DARRELL BANKS: Somebody Somewhere Needs You (Revilot) THE MARTINELS: I Don't Care (Success) JIMMY DELPHS: Almost (Karen OR Carla) CHARLES WRIGHT: Keep Saying (Philips) THE PERFORMERS: Set Me Free (Mirwood) THE OLYMPICS: The Same Old Thing (Mirwood) TRACEY DEY: Go Away (Amy - also UK Stateside) THE DELLS: Make Sure (Cadet) FRED HUGHES: Oo Wee Baby, I Love You (Vee Jay - also UK Fontana) THREE DEGREES: Do What You're Supposed To Do (Swan) DIDI NOEL: Let The Music Play (Blue Cat) Gene
  7. Billy, John Manship has a Bobby Brinkley & The Squires on his latest list for £300 - won't hurt to ask, maybe he'll trade as well as sell for cash... Gene PS - Wasn't that Kev Draper's Ollie & The Nightingales "Would It Matter" cover-up from quite a few years ago?
  8. On a last look Mick, about £250..... Gene

  10. Must have been the sight of those big red pouting lips on the sleeve!!
  11. Hi Jamesy, DJO is a Chicago label, I believe. Don't know of any other releases on the label. "Tale of Sadness" was released about 1970, and currently sells for £150, when it turns up (don't think I've seen one apart from Nick Brown's copy, which he sold some time ago). I love the record; and to be completely truthful I thought the chorus said "It's all about boxing, in the seventh round, it's all about boxing now".......then I found out he actually says Foxy & The Seven Hounds!! Gene
  12. Have to say that I am pleased Nadia won BB 2004!! Not a dry eye in our house on Friday night!!! Oops - sorry, I detracted!! Gene
  13. There is a positive side to this saga.......does anyone remember ""Look Ahead" by Gordon Keith (Calumet) selling for £50 when first discovered around 1983? Three years later, an influx of copies were found, and the price stayed the same. It took around 6 months for the price to drop to something more realistic, something like £15. 15 years later, such had been the demand that even now, it can still be seen on lists at around £100 (even more than the first copies went for)!! Gene
  14. Apparently, this was found in quantity around Christmas 2002, along with 2 other Prix 45s (Joe King; "Speak on Up" and Eddie Ray; "Glad I Found You"). From what I've been led to believe, the amount found of each record runs to a few hundred. I bought my copy around this time for £300; it wasn't actually one of the batch, but a copy belonging to a collector here (nameless), who must have been selling the copy he paid a packet for ages ago, foreseeing the influx of copies!! They are all originals, but I'm surprised they've taken this long to reach the market!! Hope this helps you in your decision Brett!! Have a good weekend. Gene
  15. Tabitha, That sounds like "Teardrops Are Falling" by Little Natalie & Henry (who also recorded as Young Henry Ford & The Gifts) on Roulette. PS - love the cat pic.....cute!!! Gene
  16. So you know about the Ian Botham saga then Johnny?........... ........erm, I'll get me coat! Gene
  17. Well, that confirms that it was a 60s/70s record, if Ian "broke" the sound at the Mecca!!! A bit like the term of someone like Ian Botham "breaking his duck" - what did he do; sit on it in the bath? ;-)
  18. Tony - the big answer is.........definitely nah!! Play it instead!!! Gene
  19. I'd love to know just how many copies were sold at horrendous figures. Despicable really..... Gene
  20. I'm pretty certain that the current rate for Cliff Nobles on J-V is about £250, Tony (about £100 more than the Atlantic release). Gene
  21. Gene-r

    GOSH

How about another one for the winning bidder? "Kiss My Wad Goodbye"! Gene
  22. I feel very sorry for the collectors and DJs who had to pay near four-figure prices for the record. Gene
  23. You're right Johnny - quite an odd line-up!! One Rick Astley lookalike, and a backing vocalist with short dreadlocks!! Seen Venicia Wilson yet? Caught sight of her on one of the DVDs; gorgeous-looking blonde, looks rather like a student in her early-20s!! Calm down Gene; you're a married man!!! OK, pass the bromide! Gene
  24. Have to say, despite my own cynicism, I do like "One Picture's Worth A Thousand Words" by the Four Vandals. Gene
  25. Sure- like The Four Vandals and Venicia Wilson! Seriously though, does anyone know the difference in value between the TWO Sassy issues? They each have different B-sides: 1) "Love (Your Pain Goes Deep)" 2) "This is Just a B-side" Then again, wasn't "If That's What You Wanted" the B-side to "Love..."? Gene
