  1. Take a photo of the packaging and the cracked record, making sure you get the area of damage. Contact the buyer, sending him any photos that you can, and ask if there's any way he can claim compensation from the Dutch post office. It happened to me a few years ago when I sold a John Lee Hooker LP to a guy in France. It arrived in much the same way you described, but he sent pics of the damage, and I used this as evidence against the Post Office when I claimed. They paid up within a month, and I successfully refunded him as a result. Quite a tough one this, given that you can't really do him for "item significantly not as described". Good luck anyway Peter.

  3. Probably Girl From The Snow Country, Dave. I know that's still going for quite a lot of money.
  4. That's right. And when I first went there well over 30 years ago it was called "Luigi & The Boys", changing its name to "On The Beat" around 1984. The people at On The Beat (Tim, Alenia and Mark etc) pre-1984 were much friendlier than Phil and Stan in Vinyl Solution (later Rocks Off) who, in my opinion, were a tad obnoxious and impatient (I made sure to go in when Shane was working there, as he was brilliant and I always got on with him). Missed Shane with his cans of Kestrel when he left, but it was good to see people like Val Palmer etc take over behind the counter!
  5. Just one reason why the Aussies are not my favourite people.
  6. The Sonny label was a California label - note the similarity in typeface as the Sandy Golden and the SS boots mentioned here. Does this help shine any light on the subject, fuel any conspiracy theories, or serve absolutely no purpose at all? Two sources I've read both date this as a 1969 release. Additionally, I have to say that this is the best, most absorbing (and probably most intellectual) thread I've read on here for ages!
  7. I can just see it now: "One of only two known copies - currently played by (add list of 50 DJs you know).
  8. Wasn't it a Beltone acetate or something? Dave - a reissue label (think it may have been Norton) released a few acetate lookalikes some months ago. They're just large centre-holed vinyl pressings with the acetate label stuck on to them. Look convincing in the sleeve, though not so much when you look at one without.
  9. No probs Mick - hope you get it sorted.
  10. Can you not just instigate the Unpaid Item Procedure against him, or have you already done that? That will, at least, give him an unpaid item strike. Then make sure you block him from bidding on your future auctions. Sadly, this sort of thing is far too frequent on Ebay, but when their shambles system denies sellers their rights and sucks up to the buyer, then shit happens.
  11. For anyone who's still concerned about ISV, and the erroneous emails that went out to Ebay members last week, I've just had the following response from Ebay, which confirms that all emails were sent out in error: Hello Gene, Thank you for your email. I understand your concern with regards to the International Site Visibility Upgrade being removed from item **** Gene, please allow me to inform you, currently some members are receiving emails stating that their items for which they had chosen the International Site Visibility (ISV) upgrade have had the feature removed as they do not comply with the eBay site EBAY_AUTOS. However, these items are performing as they should and they are appearing on eBay US searches. The email looks to be sent in error. This is being investigated. Occasionally these unfortunate situations do arise. I can assure you that when these situations do arise we always work as quickly as possible to try and solve the problems. This is very important to us, as we want our community of users to enjoy the best possible trading experience and use all of the features available on the site. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you and thank you for your patience and understanding. Kind regards, Nadine Lundy eBay Customer Support
  12. Which is probably one more copy than "Stormy Weather" by the Five Sharps on Jubilee 78. Yes, don't forget how John Tefteller used to look down his nose at soul collectors and openly insult them......he's no real hero in that sense.
  13. Got ya!
  14. Wouldn't have thought so, to be perfectly honest, even though companies like Melodisc did press 78s in the UK intended for export until early 1961 - but that was only for West African music. As far as I'm aware, the Beatles' Indian 78s were only pressed in India, and I think it's safe to say that any single releases exported out of the UK from mid-1961 onwards would have been pressed as 45s - for a start, they'd be easier to ship without having to worry about breakages, making the export of UK 78s futile. The only Beatles Indian 78s I've seen or heard of are actual Indian pressings, and any UK exports (should they exist) would look exactly as a UK issue would, even with "Made In England" printed on the label. Recorded music libraries such as KPM, Francis Day & Hunter and Chappell Music pressed vinyl 78s until the early '70s, but these were for library use only, and were never initially made available to the public.
  15. I can confirm that the Connie Lingus / P. Vert 45 is 100% genuine! https://www.45cat.com/record/0069a0069b https://www.45cat.com/record/507a507b
  16. If you mean "The Wanderer" by Dion, then it was never on 78 (at least not in the UK or US, apart from a 2000s reissue on US Rhino's "Juke Box Hits" series). It was released on 45 in November 1961 on Laurie in the US, and January 1962 on HMV in the UK, therefore it was far too late for a 78 release. So what are the two you claim to have had, assuming it's Dion's "The Wanderer" you're talking about?
  17. Blimey - is that all? Thought it would easily be a 4-figure item.
  18. Never seen a D C Blossoms for sale or auction anywhere - that's really got to be the key piece in the collection. And I have no idea what it would go for on its own.
  19. Or offer an original Frank Wilson in part trades!
  20. As a piece of useless trivia, both Maxine Powell and Duke Reid would have been 100 years old had they lived to 2015.

  22. Do you remember the clip of them doing "I Don't Know" on the film "Ska" released about 1964 (probably for the NY World Trade Fair)? Brilliant clip.
  23. The Blues Busters were Philip James and Lloyd Campbell - sadly both no longer with us. "Got To Get There" on Capitol is worth checking out.
