  1. Hi Pete, This, I believe, was part of a reissue batch which came out in 1989, around the same time as the first Chris Clark "Do I Love You" pressings. What I remember about these was, unlike their predecessors, these pressings played at the right speed! The sound quality was much clearer as well. Hope this helps mate. Gene
  2. Hi Phil, I'm pretty sure the Isonics on Kammy goes for around £250 these days. The Jokers on Sko-Feld and the Nomads on Mo-Groov probably go for between £700 - £1,000, maybe more! I'd also be grateful if anyone has a current price tag on both of these, out of interest. Test pressing - do you mean original, or re-issue test pressing? Both the Jokers and Nomads were issued on Goldmine Sevens - if that's what you mean, probably best to get in touch with Tim Brown via his website (don't have the URL, but I'm sure someone out there will help). Well done and thanks for sorting this low-life out Mike. Best of luck. This should act as a warning for all of us before we think about doing further soul business with Belgium. The post from Frisco should act as what we should be looking for the try and spot the fraudsters. Once they've been identified, I'm sure Eurostar's trade in UK ticket sales will drastically increase, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to grace these wankers with my presence, just to bust a cap in their tiny arses. Sorry, but I have to say that this post smells strongly of another Belgian sleazeball trying to engineer a possible fraud. Reading between the lines and the phrasing (not to mention awful English) used, it doesn't sound that he really has any idea what he is supposed to be selling. If, Mister Frisco, you are 100% (which I sincerely doubt), then my apologies - but I really have to say that with all the bad press about Belgian Ebay scams, I now avoid buying from there. Gene
  5. "I have it on London issue.... cost about a tenner eight to ten years ago...." Mmmmmm!!! Bet that's worth a damn sight more these days!!!
  6. I swear that the World's Funkiest Band on California Gold uses the very same backing track as Buddy Conner!! Do yourself a favour Billy - £25 is a good price - I'd likely go for it if I didn't already have one! Larry Saunders - still a nice early '70s record. Never seen a demo, but the big challenge is finding it on UK London!! Was released here in 1974, and I've only ever seen Ian Clark's red demo. Gene

  8. Sorry you won't be here for a farewell drink Mikey - hopefully catch you at the Valatone on Saturday?? I'll be at Soul In the City tonight - anyone else here going? Gene
  9. I like the funk label that could have easily been named with me in mind - "How Big"!!!! (or "How Big???")
  10. Have to say, I remember the story which Billy the Boot posted, and it still brings a smile to my face!! Likewise, I was badly cheated on 18 years ago, so I love the "revenge is sweet" touch to this one - only wish I had the opportunity then to play such a gag!! As an occasional wedding DJ, the first two records I usually play after the meal and speeches are "Chapel Of Love" by the Dixie Cups and "Wedding Bell Blues" by the 5th Dimension. I've yet to DJ at a Northern Soul wedding - that would be fun!! Gene
  11. Someone once asked the local vicar if he believed in sex before marriage, and he replied "Not if it delays the ceremony"!!
  12. One after my middle name........Barry (cross my heart!) Gene
  13. As a laugh, I played "Under My Thumb" by Wayne Gibson at a wedding.......don't think the bride was too pleased with me!! Gene
  14. Missed it - who were they "lookalikes" for?
  15. Apparently: "Those Things You Do/I Want To Love You" was released on Delta (R 2048). Gene
  16. PMSL, as I've just been listening to "Lonely Girl" by Eric Mercury, and swear the opening line says "Lonely girl, sodomise"!!!
  17. I think I know just what sort of person Karen - someone who wants us to remember the name, so we can forget just how crap they really are!!! Now I remember why I never sent my mum out to buy my records for me when I was a teenager!!
  18. Mmm, I can think of a few non-soul ones, so here goes: TONE DEAF & THE IDIOTS ELSIE TANNER'S KNICKERS DID LEE SQUAT BARNEY RUBBLE & THE C*** STUBBLE Take a look at this: https://sam.hochberg.com/bandname.html It's groups like these that give the rest of them a "band name"!! Gene
  19. Hi Brett, Likewise, hope to see you soon mate - don't let the low-lifes get you down..... Here's a few more that make me laugh/smile: WILLIE MASON & ALL THE KINGS MEN (must have taken a right "dumpty" to think of that one!!) THE CONSTRUCTION WORLD'S FUNKIEST BAND LOU PRIDE (sounds like one-upmanship in state-of-the-art toilets) THE EXPERIENCED HEARTMENDERS (one of Guy H's old cover-up names) TRUE PATRON OF THE ARTS (UK title; actually Queen City Showband) MAX BYGRAVES..............????????????????????????
  20. Yep - good man that you sure are, Brett!! From the Freeloaders, back to the Freebasers!!! Can't think of many that make me smile, but Custer's Last Band comes to mind!! More when I think of them (may tickle my bum with a feather to make myself laugh, and then see what comes to mind!!). Gene
  21. Talkling about soul names (and possible misunderstandings), does anyone remember the clip from TOTP in 1982, when Dexy's Midnight Runners were performing "(Jackie Wilson Said) I'm In Heaven When You Smile"? Someone in the research department must have been tone deaf, as the image projected behind them was none other than darts champion JOCKEY WILSON!! Gene
  22. "Ring The Changes" by Paradox on UK Polydor (1968) covered up as "Eve Of Destruction" by the Ross Robinson Orchestra. It was the B-side to "The Wednesday Play", the A-side of which I believe was a BBC theme. Ironic, as "On The Brink" by Mike Vickers (aka "Boogaloo Investigator" by Matt Parsons) was the previous theme to the Wednesday Play! "Lonely For You Baby" by Sam Dees was covered as "I'm Lonely" - Dan Brantley. This record does actually exist, and loads of people bought it hoping to get Sam Dees!!! Also, is it true that "Ain't Gonna Cry No More" by Dave Charles was covered up as........."Ain't Gonna Cry No More" by Dave Charles?
  23. ...but I could clearly hear him shout out "Dance you w**kers"!!! Here's some more from the '80s: TRADE MARTIN: Take It From Me ("Take It From Me Girl" - Buck Rogers Movement) EMBERS: Play The Part Of A Fool ("Ain't Gonna Run" - Royal Esquires) SAM COLTRANE: Watch Out For The Heartache ("It's A Heartache" - Little Charles & Sidewinders) JEROME ARTIS: Tell Me Why ("Why" - Nat Hall) CLIFFORD BINNS: I Walk Alone ("Somebody Help Me" - Donald Jenkins) MEL BRITT: Our Love Keeps Growing ("Pyramid" - Soul Bros Inc) JAMES LEWIS: That's The Way ("That's The Way" - The Q) JOHNNY VANELLI: Hang On In There ("Gonna Hang On In There Girl" - Jesse Davis) LENNY WELCH: Room For Me ("There's Room For Me" - Jesse Davis) SPYDER TURNER & THE WEBS: No Time ("No Time" John & The Wierdest) STANLEY MITCHELL: Now You've Got Me Baby (Kontets unissued acetate) AL WILLIAMS: You Can't Win ("Don't Fight It" - The Cairos) WINFIELD PARKER: Being In Love With You ("In Love" - Tony Galla) JIMMY WILLIAMS: Somebody Please ("Where Can My Baby Be" - The Martells) KENNI SMITH: And The Lord Said ("Like The Lord Said" - Rod Keith) DEREK MARTIN: Say You'll Be Mine ("Always Be Mine" - The Shufflers) BOBBY JASON: All These Things ("Heartache Souvenirs" - William Powell) MAURICE WILLIAMS: Got To Look Ahead ("Look Ahead" - Gordon Keith) SHERLIE MATTHEWS: My Naughty Boy ("Naughty Boy" - Jackie Day) .....more when I think of them!
  24. Not really, to be honest - I'm just a fully qualified smartarse!! BTW Johnny, you look more like Jason King these days - sure you're not his twin brother, Joe? (how many people have said "You must be Joe King" in passing, or not?)
  25. Thanks Lesley - that sure does help me understand the story behind it!!!
