  1. Hi Ian, Yes, I know!! Price has got beyond ridiculous for Greg Perry. I even flinched when I heard that the supposed correct price these days should be between £30 - £40!! I bought mine for £2 (Keb's old copy) in 1982, about 8 months after it was a new release!!! As the lyrics should dictate; "It takes heart to get up, It takes mugs to pay up!" Gene

Actually Tone, is there any truth in the rumour that you won 2nd prize in a Brad Pitt lookalike competition? Apparently, the 1st prize went to a coloured fellow!! (not it wasn't me, honest!!!) :-)

  6. FROM www.bbc.co.uk American R&B singer John Whitehead, best known for the 1979 hit song Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, has been shot dead in Philadelphia. The 55-year-old musician was shot in the neck while he and another man, also wounded, were mending his car in the street. The assailant fled. Whitehead and singing partner Gene McFadden were both former members of The Epsilons, managed by Otis Redding. After a brief stint in jail for tax evasion, Whitehead went solo in 1988. McFadden was reported to have been devastated by the news of his colleague's death. He attended the scene of the crime in the city's West Oak Lane neighbourhood where Whitehead was earlier shot in the neck. The other man shot in the incident was taken to hospital. Both McFadden and Whitehead were born in Philadelphia in 1948, joining The Epsilons as teenagers. The group's career took off during a two-year tour singing backing vocals for Otis Redding in the 1960s, but the quintet split up following Redding's untimely death. Subsequently, McFadden and Whitehead joined the Philadelphia International label where they focused on their producing and songwriting skills. Notable hits on the songwriting front included Wake Up Everybody for Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and Back Stabbers for The O'Jays. The pair also wrote for artists including The Jacksons, James Brown and Gladys Knight and The Pips, winning over 20 gold discs. Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, later covered by Luther Vandross, sold more than eight million records and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Much as I love "Mystery" by Jimmy Armstrong, do you think I can bloody dance to it anymore without the possible use of a pacemaker?? Gene

  14. Can you confirm and let me know whether it was Tony's or Dana's - please please??!! :-)
  15. Tony, you're right - if I remember, we needed something to clear the punters out at 11pm (not to mention get rid of the mouse infestation)!!! But I remember you playing "Time's A Wastin'" by Buddy Greco on UK Columbia!!!! Hope I win the bidding!! Only bid on it 'cos the guitars remind me of a porn movie I saw 20 years ago (thanks again Tony!!). Gene

  17. Have to agree - certainly with the likes of Mark Loyd, Steve Aldo or Tony Colton etc.....not like "Nobody But Me" by the Human Beanz Meanz Fartz!!! Gene
  18. Actually, doesn't the Wigan Oldies All-Niter "Listen To Those Memories" patch show a gramophone? Talk about predicting the shape of things to come!! Or was it talk about Wigan '78 being mistaken for Wigan 78s!!! Gene
  19. Like I always say, who put the **** in Country and Western???? Just think; this could mean a total rebrand all round to Ye Olde Soule Source, with such topics as "Playing Wax Cylinders at a Venue?". I'd rather wait for the next compilation from Oldmine!! Gene
  20. As long as it has matching stereo horns!!! Not so good for the rare vinyl tho!! Gene
  21. Many thanks Mick - I knew you'd be here to help me out!!! Gene
  22. Does anyone know what a UK issue of "Picture Me Gone" by Evie Sands currently goes for? I've just bought a Mint issue for £55 - a bargain, methinks? I'm sure this has gone up in price over the years, as I recall seeing US copies for double figures recently!! Any help greatly appreciated, as always.............. Gene
  23. Hi Jodie, No, the Frances Burnett is a Berry Gordy Jr and Gwen Gordy comp, and is called "How I Miss You So". Near enough though!! This version of "Miss You So" was covered by people like Ted Taylor etc. There's a thread a few weeks back called Pre-1964 Soul, where Mike gives a small insight into it - here's the link: https://www.telasource.co.uk/soul/modules/i...&showtopic=1077 Gene
  24. Yes, it's true - as highlighted by Mike in an earlier post. OK, I'll be generous with you.........good old fashioned R&B!! But it was played..........
