  3. now have 3 for sale ! 1 to collect on thurs and other 2 on friday
  4. Something great always comes out of these different factions of " northern soul" in the end ... I got into 70's with Sam and Arthur as the 60's newies that were being played sounded like the "punk rock" of northern soul to me...... but the cream came to the top and you hear them as classics now ! .....same with the 70's , 80's , 90's and the R n B areas as well as the rare soul sounds.... if they have the quality to move into the main room and fill the floor they will .... so without these factions of the scene all we would hear is classic oldies and I don't think there would be as many venue's or people still going every week if that was the case ?????? my big problem with the scene is the sound systems at most venue's are awful but that's another thread !
  5. as someone has already said dj's need to be there 2 hours before their set and listen to what's going on .... not brain surgery . .... when Carl Fortnum was a guest at Cambridge he was early , was always looking at the reaction to different chooons and popped out to his car for a few more chooons once he had a good idea what the crow wanted ..... wish I had a bag of extra's in my boot like the one's he came in with ! but this just shows the difference between a collector that dj's and a dj that has a great collection of records IMHO....
  6. In my book if a DJ starts his set late then he loses the time , unless there is a good reason .... always give the head liners 90-120 mins if poss. but this can be a problem for the hot box one's... I will mention no names ! lol ... If the promoter is on the ball the dj's should start their set's on time if not the promoter needs a kick up the arse !
  7. 1 X spare wristband for sale ... no accom ... £40..... paypal or cash ... cheers
  8. just looked at your playlist molly and see very few, if any Modern room only choons ... nice mix of 60's rnb , classic oldies and quality 70's and some that i would say are safe main room 70's like esp and phillip mitchel.... .... if you had played Vince montana then i would say not in the main room if there is a modern room .... but from my experience you are a dj first and a collector 2nd and know how to get a dance floor buzzing ...... will give the thread some thought as modern rooms playing chooons that do not work with a northern main room are a thing that drives me mad .... so will add later on .... will try not to upset to many people ! lol evolution at St Ive's will have 2 very different rooms ... but i will bet anything that sam plays UBP in both rooms and packs the floor in both ! also the reunion on nov 1st will have a 70 & 80 classic modern oldies room and we will try to have very few choons played in both rooms
  9. this thread will go on and on but it's a change from modern V 60's ! lol frank pop big hit in Germany and switzerland loads of radio play there and both chooons still getting spins out and about and the floor is still busy when they are played
  10. Being serious though I think it has been the same for many years .... it's only when I talk to people that went to the torch and they say 70% of what was played, was new to them that night .... but that was at the start or the northern scene.... it's now 2008 and I think we are doing well, as you can go to many venues and hear music from mid 50's to 2005 and most people are happy with that .... it's generally the minority that say "too many oldies" or "too much modern "(some of this "modern " is 30years old !).... Threads on here have said why is the main room at prestatyn not used for a rare soul set for an evening at a prime time .... well in reality it would never work as the room needs 500+ just to look busy... it's not an option and if they became the promoter, putting their hard earned cash on the line then I think they would not risk it either .... there are lots of places that have rare soul nights and they do well .... my only take on this area is just because it's rare don't mean it's good ! also there are plenty of £5-£15 chooons out there that can make up an awesome set , including many underplayed chooons !
  11. Bugger, that just cut my collection down 2 about 10 45's i can play .... be even less next week.... and 5 are so bad i don't want to know the words!
  12. was at last Desborough.... great guy .... him and Max just talked all night ! and great stories of there trips to the US
  13. NEV WHERRY (rip) SOUL SAM CARL FORTNUM HAMMIE ADAM MOLLY all pro dj's not just collectors.... they know how to adapt and have the 45's to do it ... and don't just own a hot box ! and they can all make the room BUZZ !
