Gladys Knight On Later With Jools Holland
Just seen it Dean, no not been in one of her restaurants, but I can waffle for England anyway, absolute pro, Jools put her on the spot, collected herself, then delivered to send shivers down the spine, one word, AWESOME, and that isn,t a nostalgic reaction, just the plain as you see it truth. Kev

The Greatest Black Voice,male Ever
Any room in the hole Tim, Ruffins the man but a prime time Bobby Womack disputes the title, different this one, but listen to Smokey on a lot of his not so well known stuff "Baby Baby don,t cry" for example, the man is a genius, oh so soulful, Lee Jones from the Masqueraders, the late George Smith from the Manhattans, be back when I think of or play some more. Keep in touch mate Kev

Bobby Womack on "How could you break my heart" aint half bad and Wilson Picket on a great ballad called "I,ve come a long way" is also absolutely chilling, might post it up. Kev

Rocky Gil And The Bishops
Hiya Bearsy, nothing specific, possibly leaning to the crossover type of thing, but would consider anything nice. Kev

The Most Heart Wrenching Soul Song Ever?
Tymes-The Crutch-RCA Artist: Tymes Title: The Crutch Label: RCA Posted info: A big ask given that a massive percentage of soul records are about heartbreak and the concept is about feeling, this is one though, "Its 3 oclock in the morning, I,m so dead on my feet" cheers AndyKev

Overlooked Flip Sides
Dylan and John spot on with Masqueraders "Please take me back", along with "I,m just an average guy" must be their finest hour IMHO, anyone with The Exportations "I want you" on Vir-ro, once you,ve flipped it and heard "Find another day" surely "I want you" fades into insignificance such is the brilliance of the flip, as a matter of interest, anyone playing "Find another day" out at venues ? Kev

Just What Is Crossover
Its a very loosely used term I think Bearsy, but IMHO I think the sound which is hard to describe really comes from the period between about 1969 and 1973, like I said its just an opinion, example being Lee "Shot" Williams and his absolutely brilliant "It Ain,t Me" on UA, quite messy in production really. Motown - What's Your View
At the Coachman in Darlington last Saturday, in amongst Enchanters, Steve Mancha (Friday Night), Accents, Jock Mitchell, Cashmeres etc, Temptations-I Know I,m Losing You was played, nobody moved from the dancefloor, to anyone or anything getting out of a Spaceship and not being aware of the so called politics would have been none the wiser as the Temps is more than a match for any of the aforementioned tunes and deserves its place in any Soul set, there are more examples, lets have them. Dale Winton Plays Rare Northern Soul
Thats correct Phil, he was an avid reader of the mag and Rod Dearlove, if I remember rightly had warned that the mag would cease to exist as it was to expensive to produce, on reading this Steve contacted Rod and contributed to future issues, which I must add were a must read and is greatly missed. Steve Davis also used to attend Thorne (Canal Tavern) where as a claim to fame I advised him to purchase a copy of the Visitors-My love is ready and waiting, telling him it would be the best £6 he would ever spend, £6 eh, the good old days Kev
