Some great points there Richard, the "researching and hunting down" aspect applies to a lot of genuine soul buffs but as has been previously suggested, some people don,t have an ear for a sound and just follow what the so called names play, its always bugged me when so and so plays a record, the response seems to be "well if he's playing it it must be a good record" when in actual fact a "lesser name" can play the exact same record and it goes almost ignored, example being The Flairs, "You got to Steal it", I have immense respect for the guy who played it, but its a record that has been around for years (flip is incredible) and aired numerous times by collector/ DJ,s, then all of a sudden theres a mad scramble for it, sad really. Top top group Malc, the above has always been popular up here in the NE but "People want music" just edges it which is saying something however, as Paul has mentioned, the long takes on "Heaven is only" and "Somebody,s got to win" are records that are must haves for all soul fans, also "If somebody cares", another sublime ballad, yes indeed, what a group. Bang on ! Venues like Just Soul and Room With A View (formerly DDA) are testament to this theory, and incidentally promoted by guys who could play the so called "big tunes" if they wished but prefer to search the vaults of great soul music, most of which are very accessable. Kev

They are all great Mike and to be honest until now The Jaedes was the only one I didn,t know, well its just blown me away, I would have said beforehand The Winstons but Jaedes gets the nod. Kev

Like a dog with a bone me at the moment, thanks for the input everyone, tried doing that Chalky but I am still convinced he was moonlighting, no one actually come up with a definite no yet, Also it was mentioned earlier that why would he do it considering that at the time he was one of the best known R&B singers at the time. On reflection, I don,t think Berry Gordy paid mega money to everyone at the time, possibly Smokey and Miss Ross, also consider that Groovesville had a version of "Still in my heart" by Ruffin in the can, and at the time he did that he must have been still connected to Motown, so I think he has form.
