So Who Was Soul Brother Number 1?
James Brown was the self professed "Number 1 Soul Brother" and if you listen to his not so well known stuff you can see why, forget about "Sex Machine" and "Get up offa that thing" and the likes and dig a little deeper for the real stuff, the man is achingly soulful, Tomo from Middlesboro knocked a CD up for me a few months ago of his not so well known stuff (only a few I had heard) and it hasn,t been off the player since. I am not knocking the disco stuff, it was a milestone in Soul Music, but as I said, dig deeper and listen to "Soul Brother Number One" Kev

The Originals / Freddie Gorman - (Artist Of The Week)
Read somewhere that they were his favourite group at Motown, I think he used C.P. Spencer as backing on the "Lets get it on" set, For those who love "The Bells" flip it over to the ultra soulful "I,ll Wait For You", there is the extended intro take of the same song on the "Portrait" set which is also wonderful. Great group. Kev

Fidels I Want To Thank You
Absolutely, both sides great, "Boys" just gets it for me, and nice to see it getting its day in the sun, BTW, any one reckon it could be him leading on "Boys" Kev

Bernard Drake On Lalouisienne
Theres recently been a CD swap on here organised by Pat Biggerstaff, Samantha was involved and put Bernard Drake in her contribution, no wonder you are after a copy, totally brilliant, caused quite a stir among the other participants so I reckon you have a lot of competition in your quest. Kev

Horse & Groom Doncaster
Defo a squad from Aycliffe coming down on the 16th October, booking train tickets this weekend, we will be there from the start and leaving at the end, really looking forward to it, lot of people recommending it, but the playlists speak for them self. Anybody speaking to Paul Stead please let him know we are coming down as I don,t know who he goes on as on here. Kev

Top 5 Xover Records Of All Time
Imagine going to a venue and hearing all of the contributions here, Chucck Cockerham and Richard Caiton coming out with big appraisal here and rightly so, but Jonno,s Roy Lee Johnson which Blake posted a couple of onths ago and Dave,s Continental Showstoppers are real good quality dark horses for me. Gil Scott-Heron RIP
Incredible stuff Jock, just read the links, the Guardian story defies description really, but at the same time does not suprise you, no Bertie Big Bollocks about GSH, no "Hollywood" what you saw and heard was what you got. Its time for "Pieces of a man" I think. Kev

Gil Scott-Heron RIP
Saw it last night, fantastic essential insight, what a genius we have lost, everything and more was said on the recent thread but the man was a total one off, we will never see anyone like him again. Kev

Willie Hutch (Artist Of The Week)
Some great contributions from Bri and Sean, I love em all, and like Sean says, the guy had the lot, but this is the Daddy for me, one of those solitary listening only records IMHO, i posted another track from the "Ode To My Lady" set in refro but won,t load up, its another beauty in the same vein "Since I Found You", if anyone has the technical ability, please post it up, see y,all at Just Soul on the 2nd Kev

Northern Soul Deejay's Of The Future ?
Yes Nev, the topic has wandered a bit, and you,re right DJ and Collector do get misenterprated at times, just at that time I was replying to another post on here which interested me and before you know it you are off topic and commenting as a collector which I am rather than a DJ which I am not.You can give me a whack at the next Coachman mate. Kev

Northern Soul Deejay's Of The Future ?
Agree there with you Russ, I for one would have to be destitute to part with my vinyl, know what you are saying, I know people who flash the cash and buy records that I have wanted for years but can,t attain and then move them on to finance the supposed next big thing, content means nowt to them, just value and willy waving rights. Kev

Northern Soul Deejay's Of The Future ?
Bang on the money Paul, take "Just Soul" for an example, the whole concept is about "music content" rather than value, this, for me anyway, is the way forward, not just from a venue perspective, but also a collecting one aswell, truth is I hear on this forum alone I would say an average of 10 records a week that I love but have never heard before that cost buttons if you look about. Probably wandering a little off topic here I know, but looking at the whole soul scene in the bigger picture. Kev

Northern Soul Deejay's Of The Future ?
Great post and defo food for thought, heard a while ago that the word on the street is that some collectors on both sides of the pond are cashing in now while the vinyl can perhaps fetch its current value because they anticipate the aforementioned consequences. Kev
