  1. Thanks for the input Bob, ironically have and love the Vanguards aswell, will look out for the local issue of Sass Kev
  2. Is the local issue hard Bob, I have the 20th Century issue after hearing it years ago on a sales tape and that is awesome enough, does the extra minute make it even better to your mind Kev
  3. Here, here Benji, the day be coming when sanity prevails and the real stuff, mid-tempo that is will reign supreme again Kev
  4. Gonna theme mine The Campaign For The Return Of Mid-Tempo and All Things Nice guys and girls, hope thats OK with you all Kev
  5. Just got up from night shift and listened to this fantastic essential show, the atmosphere in the studio must have been fantastic, fantastic rapport between two of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet, Gilly,s stories absolutely captivating (can,t wait for Andy and Nicola to complete the book), and the music, well, what did we expect, Peter and the Wolves, "dear me" great stuff Deano and thanks Chalky for sorting it for us folks who couldn,t listen initially, absolute essential l;istening Kev
  6. Personally, I like to see playlists where the guy or gals doing the spinning are thinking outside of the box, places like the aforementioned Sunday Chillout in Doncaster, off the top of my head Tommy Turner "I,ll be gone" on Elbam, the dancefloor ain,t king here so as a result theres no pressure on the DJ and as a result he opens out more musically, point being we lads from the NE would never have stumbled on this gem of a do without the playlists on here Kev
  7. Great call Pete, this thread should run for a month, like the Dells, Bobby Womack etc should have, guess they aint rare enough for some folk Kev
  8. Cross referencing the other thread really Chalky where the topic turned to people who have no minds of their own when it comes to records, ain,t really soul fans and have to wait until so and so plays or says a records good, I think its probably common knowledge who pinch sounds from other people and theres plenty of them about Kev
  9. Totally agree, with peoples liesure time so precious these days, especially those with families, you need to be clear about your choice of venue, I can vouch for the guys who do The Sunday Chillout at Doncaster, we travel regularly now as a result of them posting their brilliant playlists. Kev
  10. Kind words indeed Steve, glad you liked them, suprised I aint already put them on CD for you cos I know they,d be right up your street Kev
  11. Definite hall of famer Mr Pickett, love his Womack penned stuff and they don,t come any better than "I,ve Come A Long Way" all time top 10 record for me, "Sometimes I had to drink tears for water" , now theres a lyric, the flip "Jealous Love" would be championed more but the aforementioned is so good, IMHO It gets left in the shade Kev
  12. Very Rare White Demo-Johnny Summers-I,m Still Yours-Yorktown now £350 good clean copy, a little writing on flip label Kool and The Gang-Chocolate Buttermilk-Delite (on a few playlists now seen it for £50+) £40 Cheque or cash please PM If interested Kev
  13. Lot of admirers in the NE John Kev
  14. Don,t go to many do,s now for this reason, not many people have their own minds when it comes to records, too much liking a record through association instead of hearing something that no one in particular plays and nailing your colours to it and saying "what the f---k is this, its brilliant" Kev
  15. Lee Fields was getting played in the NE years ago Kev as you probably already know and had been kicking around for years long before Butch played it, so lots of people had heard it being played by collectors who had been asked to DJ at the odd nighter but mainly at Soul nights, then those same people who had heard it played and probably ignored it are suddenly reaching into their pockets for their cheque books as soon as Butch plays it, this has always stuck in my teeth with regards to the soul scene, all of a sudden its a great record cos so and so is playing it, pathetic when you think of it, same scenario with the Flairs, it was kicking about for years so people had heard it. Always prefered flip of Flairs "Where you live" and hopefully if the campaign for mid-tempo ever succeeds it could be a monster Kev
  16. Tis right Nev, remember when the internet was just starting to kick in, when collectors used to scan the Discoveries paper to buy from American dealers before Manships guide, Rod Dearlove who we know was selling stuff through "Voices" was urging people to snap stuff up saying, "When the net kicks in, The Japs will clean up" Kev
  17. Had Flairs for years Mark, in fact theres 3 or 4 in the town where I live, personally I don,t think people suddenly realised it was quality, just an opinion but I reckon theres a lot of folk out there who only became interested because Mr Dobson was playing it, dito with Lee Fields, sorry, but nowt to do with quality, the "sheep" syndrome comes to mind, not Butch,s fault, the mans always played quality. Kev
  18. Not far wrong IMHO Steve Kev
  19. Missed this Andy Deano, you will have to upload it, looks like a big demand for this Best Regards Kev

  22. HI Steve, how are you my old mate, good honest reasoned reply, obviously it doesn,t float your boat however it certainly does a lot of other soul lovers including myself and at the end of the day its all about opinions hence the need for forums, you,ve picked a few examples of records you deem unneccessary, and i suppose some would agree, but over the course of a full night its a very small percentage of records we are talking about, if you get in early doors especially, Andy, Bully, Kev and Sean play some great unknown and semi knowns, and to be honest if there was one criticism I could level, its that they go too far sometimes away from playing rare stuff, a few of us reckon they should throw a few rare but goodies in. The term or title Just Soul was coined to emphasise no pidgeon holing, eg Modern, Crossover, Northern, 60,s 70,s 80,s 90,s 2k, rare, unrare, cheapies and on, in other words "we are playing, Just Soul" hope to catch up with you soon Steve Best Regards Kev
  23. Played your 100 shows one last night Scott, mirrored nearly identical to some of my all-time faves, will be a keen listener in the future, great stuff Kev
  24. As I thought, a lady with great taste Kev
