  1. Thought you would like that one Steve, glad you got one, you need a Skullsnaps I reckon Kev
  2. Ooops !! just been to check, its Selma my apologies, and thanks to you and Steve for replying, yes Boba, its out of Jamaica, New York, fantastic record though all the same, any info much appreciated Kev
  3. Got a great mid-tempo track on Salem Nat Brown-If thats what you want go ahead, there was a thread on here a while ago, don't see it about much, perhaps Boba can spread some light on this one, well worth getting if you see it though Kev
  4. Hi Gareth, Joe Bataan my fave on "Crystal Blue Persuasion" like you suggest hard to make a mess of that song really. "Aint No Sunshine", best for me by a mile is Isaac Hayes 17 minute performance, live at the WattStax concert in 1972, done only the way "Ike" can, great vocals, fantastic rythmn backing from the Bar-kays while Ike delivers one of the greatest saxaphone solo,s you will ever hear, and while the whole 17mins absolutely flies over, it dawns on you this wasn't meant for whitey, its soul at its blackest and most defiant, incredible!! Kev
  5. John Edwards rendition of "Danny Boy", looking at it, you just can't imagine it, but boy does it grab you, not only covers it, John makes it his own, truly fantastic emotional song. Kev
  6. Hi Binsey, if you like Ralfi Pagan, go onto Youtube and play "Darling, you and I", thats if you don't already have it, superb !! Kev
  7. Hardly go out now, but play stuff in the house all the time, these are current regulars at the mo Richard Smith-I Dont want to cry-Hi-Q Tyrone Harris-Nothing seems to go right anymore-Barclay and the 3 Moses Dillard-Got to find a way (parts 1&2)-Curtom Willie Brown-Love that stranger-Tri-it Skullsnaps-Didn,t I do It to you-GSF Kev
  8. Great stuff, Ambassadors do a great version on Arctic aswell fella,s Kev
  9. Absolutely incredible Gareth, mentioned on the funk thread that for lovers of sweet, deep, ballads, etc, theres a bottomless pit to pull from with regards to finding incredible soul music, this is the real deal for me Kev
  10. Wander as much as you like for me Paul with examples like that, "Thank you lord" is not of this earth (no pun intended) have it on album with the brilliant "I know a man" and are regular players in here. John Edwards "Excercise my love" is a particular love of mine among many from him, his version of "Danny Boy" is also incredible. No, keep wandering gents Kev
  11. Hi Gareth, if you don,t have it, go onto Youtube and play "Darling, you and I" absolutely magnificent and "Just for a little while". Kev
  12. Yes Paul, the flip tp "Get Myself Together" "Can,t get over losing you" is brilliant, another big fave of mine in the same vein, Ralfi Pagan, all his stuff on Fania is superb, and theres loads of it Kev
  13. Hi Paul, "He,s no good" what a record Kev
  14. Could be lucky to see it for a tenner these days Dave, seen it for a lot more, in fact don,t see it listed much these days, with reference to "dance", refer Funk thread Kev
  15. Yes Dave, "How can I get over a fox like you" to me is the better one, both good but "How" is exceptional Kev
  16. Bang on Manus, I posted earlier that with words to effect, theres a better scene within the confines of your own home, conversing with like minded soul fans who buy what they like which as you state can cover most soulful genres, example being my good man Tomo from Boro who has ticked the "like" box on your post has just sent me a Johnnie Taylor CD which he has compiled himself, theres only 4 out of 21 tracks I know, they are of all tempo,s and different production but they are all beauties which will prompt me to look for and purchase what I can, eleviates the political and egotistical bollocks, nothing to live up to, just enjoying and attaining bloody good soul records. Think also the guys who indulge in the sessions you mention around the doors and still go to venues feel they don,t have to fit in to or go along with whatevers meant to be hip, they just want to hear soul, whatever the genre Kev
  17. Great set, Willie Brown, Roy Lee Johnson, great records Kev
  18. Remember the version Rob Marriot used to play Chalky, back in the early 90,s, I,ve played United Four version and am sure Robs was different, the intro was better, asked Chris about it a couple of years ago but I have forgotten what he told me it wasn,t the United Four, can anyone remember who it was, he put it on tape for me but the listing went years ago Kev
  19. Deep, ballads, sweet, thats what I like to buy gareth, I reckon its a bottomless pit, and I mean quality wise aswell, great thing is, you can confine this scene to your own four walls and converse with collectors with the same interest, hear loads of stuff every week that I don,t know and love, plus it cuts out all the political and egotistical bollocks that goes on at most places Kev
  20. Agree Joan, I think someones already touched on it (Gareth I think) but, play a record cos its bloody good, not because its funk or rare or r&B cos thats seen to be hip or cutting edge or the supposed future and answer to everything, we,ve all heard DJ,s play a record for the sake of it cos its rare for rares sake and its been a heap of shite. Theres loads of quality out there in all genres, quality being the buzz word instead of being obsessed with whats the supposedly trendy way to go. Kev
  21. Somebody buy Charles Beverley, record of the list, mid-tempo crossover at its awesome best Kev
  22. Better selling point would have been his album only version of the casanova Two "We Gotta Keep On" Gav but still agree with tracks you mention, and yes, the whole set is essential Kev
  23. Thanks Dave, cuts me in half every time Kev
  24. Crack on Dave and please post Jerry,s version up, great versions posted up by Munchkin but, for my money, Jerry,s version is the Daddy, Jock put it on tape for me about 25 years ago and I have been totally hooked ever since. Kev
  25. Hi Nev, good post, on a personal stand, I like the lot, as long as its soulfull, most of the stuff I buy possibly wouldn,t be played at the majority of venues, it was the Audrey Royal Nev, and to be honest, it wasn,t a case of "not my cuppa Tea" he took it on a permanent lease, like I do with some of his stuff, If you take the Skullsnaps LP on GSF,a lot of that funk, I can tell you its one of the most played sets in my house, funk, but darn soulfull aswell. Kev
