  4. Anyway Krissi, less of the chit chat, get yourself to The Horse and Groom this Sunday afternoon, myself and a couple of my mates are DJing won't hear any oldies but its a bloody great afternoon Kev
  5. Hi Krissi, correct, well there is a bit of a one near the decks, but as Cunnie states and further to emphasise the point, a lot of people, myself included go to venues and listen, a lot of collectors are getting up there now rather than DJ's and playing great under played or never played gems that have been overlooked by the so called big DJ's down the years cos they ain't rare enough, in the days of Refo Soul on here, it was an absolute goldmine listening to records that were posted up by collectors. Kev
  6. Great shout, both great records Kev
  7. Many a time, especially at the DDA at Lowton, a record has been played without a soul on the dancefloor then on its conclusion has been met with great applause, Horse and Groom at Doncaster, same thing Kev
  8. Krissi, what is it about this word or term "rare" there are plenty of do,s that play underplayed quality soul music that is cheap aswell as a few rare tunes, but hey, rare records have always been played, as far back as anyone on here goes, the hang up seems to me to be still "I don,t know it and these lot are playing it so it must be rare" which I emphasised in a previous post, the intolerance isn,t on the so called "rarer" brigade which you refer to, the hang up is with the nostalgic crew who are coming out again and sticking labels on things they know nothing about, thats where the ignorance lies IMHO Kev
  9. No Krissi, I knew exactly what he meant cos I knew the perception that the "Older Johnny come latelys" had on us lads who had never left the scene and had embraced the more soulfull and diverse aspect the scene had evolved to, we were all tarred with the "rare and obscure shite" label we,d ignorantly been given Kev
  10. Remember DJing at a local do years ago when a guy I know came up to the decks and said "Kev, can we have a break from this rare stuff and could you stick The Salvadors or The Tomango,s on", I just burst out laughing at the irony of it all and nearly got a fat lip for it, the records I was playing weren't particularly rare, just he didn't know them, and the records he asked for were actually very rare, dear dear Kev
  11. Aah yes, the "I don't want to hear it if I don't know it " brigade, what makes me laugh about these "experts" is, did they come out of their mothers wombs whistling or singing for say the Tamango,s, Salvadors, Terrible Tom, Kenny Smith, Sandra Phillips, Van Dykes, Soul Twins, Morris Chestnut and on and on, you get my drift, there must have been a time when they heard those records for the 1st time, so why not now. Kev
  12. Rance Allan "I know a man" stunning performance. Uplifting lyrics Kev
  13. All versions of "Color him father" Otis Smith, Winstons, Naturals etc all of em sang with great feeling, and the lyrics, enough to cut any man in half in a positive way Kev

  19. Never forget it, remember Rob pushing it, us Aycliffe lads loved it, but as mentioned it never reached the same heights as O C Tolbert (aka Cleveland Wilson) acetate "I'm Shooting High", which he played, much to our delight 3 times in one night at The Swan in Mansfield, great records, great days Kev
  20. Look no further than the great Bobby Womack set "Home is where the heart is" the whole album recorded at Muscle Shoals, place of many many incredible soul sessions, all of the musicians, rythmn and horn sections are white, I picked this particular set because apart from Womack being on top form (enough for any genuine soul fan surely) the backing is nothing short of breathtaking. Kev
  21. Brilliant fresh set, can't remember when I heard 2 tracks alongside each other as good as Morris Miller and The Hunt Brothers, the latter being Sam and Dave, The Soul Twins with a twist of Rance Allan all in one, awesome, special mention also for 7 Nombres, but all in all fantastic set Kev
  22. Fooking brilliant Martin, these boys didn,t know how to make a bad record, the flip is one of the greatest performances of all time IMHO Kec
