  8. Memories, Philadelphia, 1992, Myself and my mate Gaz Simon were at John Moore's vinyl shop "The House of Harmony", those of you who know John will know he is a Vietnam veteran, a really nice guy, this day we were in going through everything,Johns friend who is also a veteran was also in, we were putting records on, I had the Players "He'll Be Back" which I knew and loved, in my hand, without thinking I put it on, silence, at that John's friend came rushing over looking quite shocked, "do you guys like this kinda stuff" he said, "like it" I replied, "Its the music from the gods" I continued, at that he grabbed my hand and shook it, turning to John he said "can you believe it, young guys from England into the soul ballads" obviously, the perception being we are all over there looking only for RARE Northern, what a great day we had after that with John and his friend fishing out and playing examples of stuff that they thought we might like, best All Dayer we've ever been to. Kev
  9. Hi Boba, edited my post to mention Robert Taylor homes which was also a feature of the brilliant eye opening documentary, I think it was the late 80,s Boba when it was shown, but, such was the effect I remember lots of it to this day Kev
  10. Hi Boba Saw a fantastic documentary many years ago about Cabrini Green, two massive projects opposite each other with two different gangs, one in each project, they were interviewing the local priest and he was telling the story about the gang war shootouts in the land between the projects and the many times he has tried to come between them, resulting in the members from both gangs shooting over him and around him on many occasions, funny and very sad at the same time. Another tough housing project mentioned was Robert Taylor homes, I remember it like yesterday such was the effect it had on me Kev

  14. Great reply Mr O,connor, and I can,t think of two better examples of records that I would use to compare what was then, and what is in comparison since, I asked the members of the "Raders" where Lee Jones was when they were at Prestatyn, "driving a truck" came the reply, I felt like crying, point is exactly what the thread asked at the beginning, with the very odd exception, there are no Lee Jones anymore, and his like will set the 60,s and 70,s apart forever. Yes Jock, that year 2K CD was an absolute belter mate Kev NB. Anyone lucky enough to own The Masqueraders "How big is big" flip it over and here Mr Jones at his scorching best(Please take me back), the 80,s onwards didn,t provide enough stuff like this for me. (not saying there wasn,t any, just not enough)
  15. Accents now sold Kev
  16. Simple IMHO, the one fundamental component that sets SOUL apart from any music FEELING,loads of the stuff we like has an unpolished production feel to it due to what you have touched on, lack of studio time, obviously down to lack of finance, but that adds to the appeal, Soul to me is about the feeling and intensity, not neccessarily the quality, don,t get me wrong, for example The Impressions and The Temptations were probably afforded the studio time to get it exactly right and the stuff they churned out is forever in the history books, but, theres a fascination about 4 or 5 guys or gals (or 1 or 2 for that matter) cramped in a ghetto studio trying to get their thing over in the 30 minutes their budget allows, and i can say with confidence theres a lot of stuff in all of our collections that are a result of that scenario Kev
