Bang on about the NE Steve, been going to a great Soul Nite/Day/Weekend for ages now though, my own record room, keep an eye out on whats for sale, spread your search as wide or as small as you like, spend as much or as little as you like on music you haven,t heard from all of the era,s and genres you mention that will bring you to your knees, todays playlist includes Donald byrd "Flight time" Fontella Bass, "I,m leaving the choice to you" James Brown "Georgia on my mind" Supremes and Four Tops "Lets make love now" a purchase I have just made by the Devilles "One more time" being a very basic recording from 1970 featuring a young Ronnie McNeir, the flip ain,t half good to, Wilburt Longmire "Good Morning" Ernie Johnson "You,re about to succeed" fantastic pleading ballad where the postage was more than the record. Will have a break later to spend time with the family, when things settle and the lap top and XBox live are unleashed elsewhere in the house, I will resume, god knows what the playlist will be then but I will be accompanied by a bottle of wine, the playlist will be diverse, the cost of the items variable, but in the mish mash of it all it won,t matter, cos I will be having a ball, no bullshit, no ego,s, just me and music to me that is from the gods. The scene (whatever that is or was) means nowt to me, its the music of my choice, and was probably never intended for the likes of me when created. Really enjoyed reading the article, hope you and your family are well Best Kev

Really glad you posted this Dave, SCRB is incredible and right up there in most top tens but I have always thought this is awesome, remember also the great comedy film "National Lampoons Animal House" the group who play at the Toga Party and who are playing in that hilarious scene when John Belushi et al turn up at the non whites diner Otis Daye and The Knights, if you look at the credits, Melvin Britt is in them. Brilliant Chalky, I reckon that will have made him feel that even though not financially, it was worth it, thought Steve would have posted summat as great as that, unless I missed it Kev
-
Very interesting, shame he never got to know that eventually he would have a massive impact somewhere after all of his endeavours. Imagine if the Mello Souls had been traced and brought over to do a couple of gigs, if only Kev

Yes, its an all timer of mine to, that was the point of the thread, incredible records being ignored for the so called trophies, as already stated, soul content wise GP should be thousands and many more like it, but, they will be passed over Kev

Don,t shop much on ebay (too lazy) but couldn,t help have a look after seeing Natural High's 50 sweet soul etc auction, he has some great stuff up and I couldn't help but notice someone has a Buddy Smith on aswell, but best record on there for me was George Perkins "Keep On Trying" on GPR, a sublime peice of Deep Soul, George's fantastic vocals with the terminally ill at the time Frank Turners pitiful (in a soulful way) falsetto in the background, doesn't get any better, can't remember how long was left to go, but no bids as yet, crying shame, hope I'm wrong, but as usual, something that should in soulful terms be fetching thousands will probably go unnoticed and fetch a pittance, like I said though, hope I'm wrong Kev
