  6. Really well written, genuinely heartfelt and sincere, makes you want to jump on the next plane and thank them yourself, when talking about soul with people, a good friend of mine always has a question to gauge the authenticity of a persons love for soul "how many Dells albums have you got then" testament in itself Kev
  7. 5 likes for that masterpeice on a supposed hotbed of a website for Soul Music is an absolute disgrace, when these guys sing, Northern, Crossover, 60,s 70,s, funk, R&B whatever you want to call it don,t come into it, Kev
  8. 1972, that was the year they brought out to me (and theres a lot to choose from) there finest album, "Sweet as funk can be" the title really doesn't tell the story, packed with shattering ballads, Marvin usually gets the plaudits, and I believe some of his finest moments are on this set, but Johnny Carter, for me one of the greatest singers ever, dovetails as he always did magnificently with Marvin, its a set I always go back to, and no disrespect to the others, but when you listen to Marvin and Johnny dipping and soaring on "Do what you gotta do babe" and "Just as long as we're in love" its hard to put anything else on after, you just can't follow these guys, they are that good Kev
  9. Just made balls up of editing' lost Im glad and posted flip instead Kev

  11. "Hoagy Daddy", off for a listen now, Little Richard, what a record. Kev
  12. Winstons version of course Chris as you say, great lyrics, and some good versions, but Winstons best delivery IMHO Kev
  13. Tis usually the crux of the matter Dave, nobody will tell me that Joseph Webster is a better record than Joe Tex or for example Innervision "Honey baby be mine" Kev
  14. All fantastic examples Dave, "Under the street lamp" epitomises what soul is about for me, but now Im starting to think about "Dreams of a shoeshine boy" what the hell, all brilliant goosepimple jobs Kev
  15. Joe Tex is absolutely brilliant Mal, unfortunately the price tag you put next to it will ensure it stays under the radar, how many records are like Joe Tex, James Brown "People wake up" is another that springs to mind that should be massive, suppose we've been here before, but will never move any further on Kev
  16. Defo catch up Paul, Tomo is keeping me really busy listening to a load of David Ruffin stuff at the moment, will be through to see you both next couple of weeks Best Regards Kev
  17. Been unlucky there Paul, Sam Dees, Guitar Ray and Bill Brandon were in demand from the late 80,s onwards, Stephens and Fosters stature grew a bit more recently, best example I suppose was Lee Fields "Take me back" (Tyra's Song is better imho) but the reason for that was a certain DJ deciding to play it, then all of the sheep who couldn't appreciate it as a great record previously, all started to clamour for it, not going to complain cos I did OK out of it. Kev
  18. Exactly the model that DDA implemented at Lowton which I mentioned previously, and boy did it show, brilliant Kev
  19. OOPS Well spotted Blake, sharp as ever my man Kev
  20. Yeah, comes with a stigma attached if you ask me, in the NE we are up to our necks in the nostalgia thing, every weekend too many do,s on, If asked, just say "soul music, full stop" which is the truth, stigma I suggested is, Northern Soul=flying around in 40 inch bottoms with a vest covered in badges of places they,ve never f-----g been to and an Addidas bag in tow with change of vest after they've scorched the floor to Frank Wilson. We have all that going on up here in abundance. Hate it. Kev
  21. Its the way forward Jordi, for me anyway, being a mid-tempo or even slower kind of a guy dancing ain't that important, we are all clocking on a bit aswell, Horse and Groom Doncaster is similar, only its jam packed with soul heads, bit of a dancefloor as such but can honestly say its not an essential part of the day for anybody who goes there, over the many times I have been over the last 3 years or so can,t remember dancing, but I have waited for every single record played with anticipation, just the same as everyone else, and applauded 99% of whats been played. Kev
