  4. Already commented in Events, so just repeating that I ran out of superlatives to describe this place about 2 years ago, rammed full again, if it gets anymore popular (if at all possible) the lads will have to issue tickets. Fantastic knowledgeable crowd in savouring a tremendous cross section of soul. Tough choice, but record of the day for me was Eddie Billups-Try something new, (flip of Shake off that dream), played by Bri early on great to talk to Bob, Dave and Tracey so we could apologise for missing out on their guest appearance in the summer, Wayne, Dom and the London boys, great lads, Gilly, Nicola and Andy also popped in, real ale on top form again, what a way to spend a Sunday Kev
  5. Should see Nicola on Sunday, Gilly told me they are going to Horse and Groom Kev
  6. Sitting on the fence there Chalkster, there's only 18 days left of this year, seriously though, there is great anticipation about this book, can't wait Kev
  7. Loving this Peter, got a real Steve Mancha feel about it, can't compliment it higher than that, great post Kev
  8. Anyone ? Kev
  9. George Perkins, oh no, just talking about him with Boba the other day, "Keep on trying" one of my favourite records ever, really sad news Kev
  10. Thanks for clearing that up Bob Kev
  11. Having your own EAR was mentioned earlier Phil, and in all this, that was one of the points I was trying to get over, I think its a great little statement, and oh so very true, rather than following the crowd with your cheque book trying to acquire the "biggie". Karl obviously did that(used his own ear), and fair play to him, regardless of whether he bought cheap records or rare records, they appealed to him, what he wanted to listen to and play out, did his own leg work instead of becoming a sheep and buying records to impress other people. I don,t buy cheap records to make a statement, like I said previously, some records I have had to shell out a lot of cash for, but, they were for me, just like the cheap one's that take as much pride of place as the expensive one,s. Could have posted for example, Enchanters, "Look about you" but I think The Esquires and The Artistics that I posted are every bit the equal if not better, just 2 great examples in my opinion of stuff ignored through snobbery and lack of vision, taste and initiative, The Carnival catalogue is rammed with cheaper records that stand toe to toe with so called biggies. They are out there, in there thousands, looking for good homes, and I will say it again, buy a record because YOU like it, thats all that counts, use your own ear, not other peoples (recommendations by all means) Kev
  12. Here,s another that stands up against anything for me, postage will probably cost as much as the record, Artistics-You left me-Brunswick Thinking mans soul, in fact it jumps right out at ya IMHO Kev
  13. 2 absolute beauties Kev
  14. One more comment from me then I am out of here By all means pay a million pound for a record or 10p, but be true to yourself, buy it cos YOU like it, not to impress anybody or to Willy wave Best Kev
  15. Ilove some biggies, in fact down the years I have loved and still do love a lot of harder to locate records, my point being, people who are only turned on because a record is a so called "big ticket" record, read further back, the guy who will ignore a record until some "BIG DJ" gets his hands on it (not his fault) spins it, the price goes up, THEN the cheque book comes out, as stated before, I have some rare records myself that I had to pay a few bob for, but they aren't "big ticket" records that have been established through name DJ,S playing them, they are records I have heard through hours of looking, physically and through media, thought, I must have that record, then through research have found out they are either cheap (yipee) or hard to locate and expensive, then I have to shift stuff to raise the funds. People have their own ear, I respect that, but, sometimes its nothing to do with ear, read Chalky.s last post, its down to a T Kev
  16. On the very first page of this thread I said "not enough thinking mans record collectors" around anymore, which you have duly described above, and I stick by it, it doesn,t say much for someone who claims to be a soul fan when they need to base their buying on the so called "biggies" no vision, taste or initiative displayed there for me Kev
  17. Welcome back Bob, show has been a real miss, for me, from the outstanding Sherrell Bros onwards, fantastic stuff, that, Myron, Denise, Ella, Brenda, Unnatural Funk Band, Calvi Harris, Valdons, Curtis Gray and Eddie McCloyd all outstanding, however as I type listening to the Naturals which sounds nice, realised while I was listening, Fir-Ya although completely different in production and arrangement etc sounded like the same lyrics as one of my all time fave records, George Perkins-Keep on trying on GPR. Great show Bob, thanks Hang on, Whispers Needle in a haystack playing now, outstanding, and now Lee Williams, Peepin through the window-Carnival Kev
  18. No probs Len, fantastic version, deserves to be shared, thanks for that Kev
  19. Looking for:- Soul Connection-Why am I supposed to cry-Socon Please PM with price and condition, Cannot pay by paypal at the moment, cash, cheque or bank transfer please Kev
  20. Hi Nev What I meant to say was if anybody were trying to take it from me Understand what you are saying about the search for records, i have done plenty of that and have had to wait. I spend loads of time on looking on American collectors channels, (and a couple of great English collectors) to listen for new stuff. None of it is big ticket stuff to be played at venues, that does nothing for me these days, just stuff I hear and think, "I must have that record" not to impress anybody but myself and a lot of them have cost me a few bob, you are right, you enjoy what you are doing, so no need to change for anyone, totally agree Regards Kev
  21. Talk about the Dream Team Kev
  22. Yes, I have some rare records (albeit no trophy records) but, you would have to kill me to part me with this, cheap as chips, thats why nobody's interested in it Kev
  23. Stands up against anything Kev
  24. Love that version Len, new to me, still, The Esquires is to me the better version, but thanks for posting, fantastic record
