  1. A truly awesome collection of soul records here, enjoyed every last second of it, only got one of them which is Faces of Truth and knew maybe 3 others, maybe a well known fact I don,t know but was that Jackey Beavers leading on Soul Continentals ?, great stuff Dave, thanks for posting Kev
  2. Somewhere near how I see it John, to me its a "out of the 60,s but not quite into the 70,s" sound, regardless of tempo, even Sweet Soul collectors are now looking for "that sound" usually a low budget kind of unpolished sound, agree that a lot of examples given are out and out 70,s records with lavish production, Lee "Shot" Williams-It ain't me-UA could fill the criteria Kev
  3. I love male group records and this is up there with the best of em, not saying The Mello Souls ever ran out of legs or ever will, but this came along albeit covered as The Masqueraders at just the right time Kev
  4. At work all weekend Jay, will catch up with it on monday Kev
  5. Hi Robb Voice Masters-Bamboo St Louis surely same group as Two Lovers/In vain in love-Frisco, J Thompson is the writer on these recordings I think ? Kev
  6. Great record, on the flip of another great record "Don,t leave me" Hot Line Kev
  7. Another 2 from the Temps, "I,ve gotta find a way to get you back" and "Truly yours" Kev
  8. https://mixlr.com/sounds-of-soul/showreel/ For anyone who enjoyed Bob,s (oh how we miss him) Sitting in the Park shows then this is a must for you. Just listened to the latest instalment using the above link and can honestly say it was one of the best Soul music shows I have ever heard, Victor Vasquez guesting from San Jose and as expected he played some absolute gems, loads new to me and the one's I did know I love anyway. Fantastic stuff Jay, Al and Vic Kev
  9. running almost parallel with The Burkes at this time was The Simmons family, originally calling themselves The 5 Stepping Stars they then became The Family Circle, the groups leader and writer in chief was the multi talented Charles "Chas" Simmons who I am glad to say is still involved with music projects to this day, had a few conversations with him and he told me they had worked alongside The Burkes. Two very talented Family groups indeed Kev
  10. Thanks Pete, you one of those I thought would appreciate it Kev
  11. George Scott-I'm a fool for you Maple album Kev
  12. Cheers Tony, this subject definitely got legs, btw, Charleen from California is asking after you Kev
  13. To start with two from the Temps, Forever in my heart and Angel Doll, make that three, Who you gonna run to Kev
  14. Are we including album only tracks Tony ?
  15. Could be my mistake Carl, I got a repro a while ago and just assumed Numero had put it out Kev
  16. Numero reissued it Matt if that's of any interest and obviously is available at good soul outlets, otherwise could be quite hard to source 1st issue Kev
  17. Ditto, beat me to the punch Eddie Kev
  18. Probably the most imitated group ever, no disrespect cos I love them but it was easier to try and sound like them rather than say the Temptations who consisted of four members out of five who could take lead sounding all completely unique, however, back to the Impressions, my fave, and there,s loads to choose from is "I,m still waiting" IMHO, absolutely awesome Kev
  19. Absolutely, but do yourself a favour and give "Once you had a heart" under Paul Williams a whirl on the tube, one of the truly awesome songs the man sang, thing is, he died tragically, and watching and listening to him gave the impression he was a tortured soul, every word he sang IMHO was a reflection of what was going on in his life Kev
  20. He sure did Jakob, great story, what a character, answered all the questions on how the collecting in California evolved early days to how it is now, fantastic stuff, Jay and Al got something really unique going down with this show, Victor Vasquez in town from San Jose for the next show, he has some great stuff, they,ll have a blast in that studio, that's for sure Kev
  21. Fantastic read and listen John, will be indulging myself with one of these mate, the Bobby Moore in particular sounded fantastic Kev
  22. Latest instalment from Saturday night was another belter, some fantastic Sweet Soul played by the guys with Anthony Santana and Sigs guesting in the studio, don't know how to copy the link but Jakob (soulfulsevens) has posted it in the Lowrider thread so you can listen to the show and the 2 previous shows, really is a refreshing thing the Jay and Al are doing here, inviting collectors in to play their tunes and tell their stories, very interesting and music to die for Kev
  23. Your record room would give anybodies a good run for their money Lisa Kev
  24. Gentle bump for this trio Kev
