  1. It's certainly really helped isolate the subject, which is the whole point, of course.
  2. Great photo - very shallow depth of field though. Was that intentional or the result of a quick snatch? (No sniggers from those at the back please!)
  3. This is the one I posted up in that original thread...
  4. You might find this useful... https://www.soul-source.co.uk/forums/topic/359847-marvin-l-sims-reissueboot/ The pic referred to in my opening post isn't the same as you've posted, but one on an orange label.
  5. Your dad's events in the SE of England were pretty much the first Mod and soul events I ever went to. Somewhere in the house I still have a number of flyers of events in places like Orpington, and the alldayers in Ilford. Happy memories!
  6. I'll expect my mum to get in touch after seeing the "Northern Soul" routines on the show and ask "Is that what you do?"
  7. Hey, good to see you on here, Hans. Welcome. Must admit to missing the first hour, but really enjoyed the second.
  8. Completely agree with the consensus here - DJs should never pay to get in and are allowed a guest. I do know of one event not so long ago where the DJs got in for free but their guest/spouse had to pay. That didn't go down well!
  9. Hmm, I see what you mean about the Countryfile calendar. They seem to have gone for a number of cute animal shots rather than ones that are outstandingly good. Clearly our expectations are higher - but only because we've been treated to so many fantastic photos during the three years these "Show us your great photos" threads have been running.
  10. The winning images in the 2017 British Wildlife Photography Awards can be viewed via the link below to Sky News. While some of them are excellent, I can't help but think that as far as some of the others are concerned, we've had better on here. http://news.sky.com/story/british-wildlife-photography-awards-2017-11118317 What's your opinion, guys and gals?
  11. Thanks for that, Ed. Glad you enjoyed it. We're getting a nice line-up in place for next year... Marc Forrest visiting in April. The Willinghams in June, and John Manship next September. Dates and stuff on our website: https://www.northernsoulamsterdam.nl - and if you need any info about visiting at any time, just give me a shout on here or on Facebook.
  12. First mix for absolutely ages. Forty one minutes of classic, underplayed and unreleased soul. As an added bonus there are also a couple of 70s Blaxploitation radio ads in there and an anti-drugs public service announcement from Curtis Mayfield.
  13. I think some of the younger people on the scene are in part responsible for the rise in prices. Over the last year or two I've seen many instances on Facebook rare vinyl valuation pages where younger folk have "bigged up" prices for 45s when people have enquired about the value. Undoubtedly these are 45s they themselves own, possibly originally from "dad's" collection, and for which they've not actually had to fork out serious readies.
  14. Northern Soul Amsterdam presents a "Belgium Meets Amsterdam Soul Special"! Featuring the finest soul DJs from Belgium, including one of the original DJs from Belgium's legendary Popcorn Club, this is going to be something extra special. Find out more at www.northernsoul.nl and via our Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/groups/northernsoulamsterdam Northern Soul Amsterdam - Amsterdam's small but mighty soul club!
  15. Marvellous fungi to be seen in the Amsterdam woods at the moment.
  16. Seen on an afternoon cycle ride to one of our favourite spots in the Amsterdam woods - the Boerderij Meerzicht (English = Lake view farm, or better known to us as the pancake house. ).
  17. If the Bazza you're talking about is the one I think it is, he's still over here and lives just a couple of miles away from me. He's always to be seen out on the floor at soul nights here.
  18. The Northern Soul Amsterdam Mini Weekender is now SOLD OUT! No more tickets are available. Thanks to all those who leapt in to get their tickets. We're sorry if you missed out. There's always next year!
  19. Musk beatle (so I've been told). Amazing colours and a stunning metallic sheen. Almost looks as if it could be artificial!
  20. Because of the huge demand for tickets, we're delighted to announce the Northern Soul Amsterdam mini weekender will now take place in two rooms. This is a small, intimate and friendly event in a traditional Dutch bar/café, so tickets are strictly limited. Get booking now and enjoy a LOST WEEKEND of soul in Amsterdam! More info: Facebook & www.northernsoul.nl
  21. Thanks, Mike. For anyone interested, my thinking is that European soul events have quite a low profile on Soul Source - yet there are plenty of them on the continent. So the club is a place for members who are going, or are interesting in going, to these events, whether they be soul nights or full-blown weekenders. At the same time, people involved in running European events can let members know what they have planned and what visitors can expect. The more info shared, the more useful it'll be to everyone.
  22. Northern Soul Amsterdam – Amsterdam's small but mighty soul club! Monthly nights of rare soul, crossover, funky grooves and a whole lot more € Caf´´Batavia, just two minutes from Amsterdam Centraal Station. Info: www.facebook.com/groups/northernsoulamsterdam and www.northernsoul.nl
