  1. OK, first time for doing this. Thought it would be a nice to highlight the great pics people have posted across the month and in particular those that have attracted the most "up votes". So, for the month of January, the best liked photos/posts are... Fantastic work @martyn pitt, @Winsford Soul (Steve), and @Johnny Jones. Congratulations!!!
  2. How do I sign up for this, Mike? On the link below it says "sign up here", but there's nothing showing by which that can be done. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/newsletters/3-soul-source-daily-ebay-look-forward/ Thanks in advance...
  3. Interesting idea, Mike. I’ll gladly sign up and give it a go when available.
  4. That was wheelie interesting!
  5. Pete, could be an interesting idea, so why not go for it in this thread. Might also look at doing a “photo(s) of the month” kind of thing and highlight the picture or pictures that get the most upvotes/likes at the end of a month. Not a competition as such - just a bit of acknowledgement for pics folks have liked the best. Worth a go, guys and gals?
  6. Thanks for the replies, guys. Much appreciated.
  7. How do you tell the difference between an original of Bill Brandon/Lorraine Johnson - Full time groover - and the reissue/boot? I've read that the label on the orig has sharper text than the boot and is on slightly glossy paper, but having looked at label scans online, and without having both side-by-side, I'm struggling to identify which is actually which. Any other distinguishing marks that tells them apart?
  8. Northern Soul Amsterdam presents a monthly club night of rare soul, crossover sounds, funky grooves, authentic R&B and more played on original vinyl at Café Batavia, right in the heart of soulful Amsterdam! In September, we're absolutely thrilled to have as our special guests John Manship and Keith Fletcher! Time: 21:30-02:15. Entry: 5 euros. Perfectly situated just a couple of minutes from Amsterdam Centraal Station, Café Batavia is a cozy venue offering a wooden dance floor, air conditioning and a very well stocked bar! For more information checkout our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/northernsoulamsterdam Or visit our website: www.northernsoul.nl
  9. Hmm... the Northern Soul dance is unique to the scene. Therefore it is Northern Soul dancing. It might have borrowed or been influenced by many other scenes and cultures, but it developed its own instantly recognisable style. It is a dance form in its own right.
  10. A new year and a new photo thread to keep us entertained through the months ahead. My first addition is something suitably seasonal - a wintery scene taken in the Amsterdam woods. All contributions very much welcomed, and if the photos we've seen in previous years is anything to go by, we've a lot to look forward to. Enjoy!
  11. I think that’s because Soul Source didn’t have an Up vote function when the first photography thread started in 2013. Not sure when that was introduced.
  12. That's a nice idea. One option might be to go through the thread at the end of the year and put forward those photos with the greatest amount of "Up Votes". That said, and given the huge talents we have on here, you might find that a top 10 selection of the most liked photos comes from just two or three people. If anyone has any suggestions as to how something like this might work, your thoughts are most welcome.
  13. Who'd have thought when the first photography thread was started in 2013 that it would still be going on today? Across hundreds, if not 1,000s of posts, we've been very fortunate to see an incredible array of amazing photos. That's really rather remarkable, and entirely down to the enthusiastic and continued participation of everyone here. For anyone interested, and with some spare time on their hands, here's a link to the first thread. With one year ending and another about to begin, I'll close this thread tomorrow and start up a new one for 2018. Thanks to everyone for sharing your great pics and for contributing to what - as Peter says - has become something of a permanent fixture! Happy New Year and best wishes to you all!
  14. Diary dates through to Sept 2018 for the small but mighty Northern Soul Amsterdam. More info via Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/groups/northernsoulamsterdam Or visit our website: http://www.northernsoul.nl The venue, Cafe Batavia, stands in sight of Amsterdam Centraal Station and so is very easy to find. Plan a weekend to Amsterdam in 2018 and make sure you come and visit us.
  15. Superb selections from Tony last night, Hans. Thoroughly enjoyed here. Hope you're recovering from the jet lag!
  16. Best wishes to one and all for a very Merry Christmas and a most soulful 2018!
  17. Amsterdam's small but mighty soul club is back on Saturday 10th February 2018. We'll be joined behind the decks by Bart Fader and Taco Fett. Best known for running Waxwell (probably Amsterdam's most famous record shop) and as former hosts of the long-running "Struttin'" nights, Taco and Bart will be playing heavy soul and funk sounds on original vinyl. The venue, Cafe Batavia, is just a couple of minutes walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station. 18. James Brown's involvement with the Loma record label extends to just three 45s, all released in 1965. That came courtesy of the legendary Bob Krasnow, who'd been closely involved with the King record label and had headed up their San Francisco operations before taking on the mantle of general manager with the newly launched Loma in 1964. Those three 45s are: Loma 2014: Baby Lloyd - There's something on your mind Pt 1 & 2 - April 1965 (James Brown as producer on both songs) Loma 2016: Bobby Bennett & the Dynamics - Soul jerk Pt 1 & 2 - July 1965 (James Brown as producer and writer on both songs) Loma 2018: Walter Foster - Waitin' / Your search is over - Aug 1965 (James Brown as producer on both songs and writer of "Waitin'"). A bit more info on the Baby Lloyd 45 here: https://www.lomarecords.com/loma2014-baby-lloyd.html
  19. Our local windmill looking glorious against a wintery blue sky.
  20. And I'm just outside of Amsterdam. Tried the site just now and it seems to be back up and running.
  21. Yup, tried to get into Musicstack a number of times yesterday but couldn't - the site just wouldn't load.
  22. I do love the panorama function on the iPhone camera. This one was taken this afternoon at Westeinderplassen in the Netherlands, just a couple of minutes from home.
