  1. More snorkelling - this time from a small Greek fishing boat. Got to say the waters are wonderfully clear.
  2. Many times with our friend Stratis, but not so far this holiday. Next week, I reckon.
  3. Slightly at a tangent, but it’s worth having a read about the founder of MB Records, Miriam Bienstock. She was married to Herb Abramson who set up Atlantic Records with Ahmet Ertegun. Although the Wikipedia article describes her being “influential” in the early development and growth of Atlantic, other sources describe her as being a co-founder of the label. https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miriam_Bienstock
  4. Just another day in Molyvos...
  5. Efcharisto. We had aubergine purée followed by a dish of small fried fish (red bream) for me and a grilled red snapper for my other half, washed down with a very nice bottle of dry white made in Limnos.
  6. Thankfully the situation changed somewhere in that time. It’s all very open and honest here with restaurants being obliged to advise in their menus that if you don’t get a proper bill, you’re not obliged to pay. They’re also obliged by law to tell you if anything on the menu is being cooked from frozen rather than fresh. Hardly anything is frozen, but it’s always good to know so you can make an informed decision.
  7. Molyvos, on the Greek island of Lesvos, and lunch...was...great!
  8. Never experienced or seen that at all. Never heard of any tourist have that happen to them here - and I belong to a sizeable Molyvos Facebook group.
  9. It’s 10 years since our first visit and in that time it’s hardly changed at all. The biggest change has been the dramatic decline in tourist numbers since the refugee crisis. And even a few years on, people we know here are saying this is the worst start to a season they’ve ever known. Given that tourism in Molyvos was down by 80% about three years ago, that’s something to be feared at the local level. Still, as always, folks here remain ever optimistic and take a long-term view. Here’s hoping that optimism is justified.
  10. Cheers, Steve. Must admit that it’s becoming something of an all-day breakfast. Well, the 3rd part of it specifically.
  11. Greek breakfast - parts 1, 2 & 3
  12. Early yesterday evening - looking towards Molyvos harbour on the Greek island of Lesvos. It was a bit overcast and breezy, but expecting things to brighten up today.
  13. I have this one - Dance, Dance, Dance - a compilation of Contempo releases. Among the tracks is JJ Barnes singing "Baby, please come back" and I got him to autograph the cassette insert when I saw him perform at Hinckley (in '83, I think) at what was my first 'proper' nighter.
  14. A lovely tribute to a very talented lady. RIP Leola.
  15. SOUL GALORE - a small but mighty night of rare soul, boogaloo beats, classy crossover, latin vibes, 50s/60s R&B, Motown and more played on original vinyl at Café Batavia, just two minutes from Centraal Station. Special guest DJs: Big Boss Man Billy 'T' Soul and resident DJ, Pete45. Wooden dance floor, air conditioning, great selection of beers, spirits and more. Entry: €5,- More info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/northernsoulamsterdam/ and... https://www.northernsoul.nl

  16. I wouldn't take Wikipedia as gospel. All that means is no one has updated the page yet.
  17. For songs written in the time of the Vietnam war, pretty much yes, although the term refers to anyone who steals a guy’s girl while they’re away on military service. Brief but interesting background to the origins and development of the expression here... https://taskandpurpose.com/brief-history-jody-original-mr-steal-girl
  18. RIP. From what I've read, Johnson made an appearance on Ready Steady Go in 1965. Is that correct? And if so, any footage?
  19. Seems to be no more than shameless plugging of an event.
  20. And the connection to photography is?
  21. Just for fun... About 10 years back, I was experimenting with stereoscopic 3D photography and worked out you could get the same effect with digital images and not just photos you'd taken. So using a scan I'd done of Linda's classic publicity photo, I made a 3D pic. Not much good if you don't have anaglyph glasses, but if you do, it works rather well!
  22. Obvious one, and very bittersweet...
  23. Courtesy of Wikipedia... Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_School_(UK_TV_series) Best pic I could find... Hamble is on the right...
  24. The view from our balcony about 20 minutes ago. Photo courtesy of my elderly iPhone5.
