  1. Thanks for the support Kev!

for right now there will be a release of a new single being manufactured now. The vinyl release of the EP will be out later down the line. She and the rest of the revue are scheduled to be in performing in Europe for a couple weeks in the spring..keep a look out

Will definitely be wanting the vinyl releases.

Have played "Just say you're wanted…" and "What's it gonna be" at the Amsterdam Soul Club recently and both went down famously with the crowd!

  2. Hi Ady, thought you might appreciate knowing that I received this notification from Amazon this morning:

We regret to inform you that your order will take longer to fulfill than originally estimated. Our supplier has notified us that there is a delay obtaining stock for the following items you ordered on January 26 2013.

Various Artists "Pied Piper Presents A New Concept In Detroit Soul"

We are awaiting a revised estimate from our supplier, and will email you as soon as we receive this information.

Any ideas what the problem is and, more importantly (and appreciating that you're not Amazon's customer service!), when stock will be available???

  3. I take it with them being a trio from Detroit it is based on the Supremes?

The original film is set in Harlem. It's not about the Supremes or any other group specifically - it's just about the trials and tribulations of the music industry and the effects of its poison on those who believe it to be a route to fame and riches without consequences.

It could be set in any decade - the 1930's, 40's, 50's or 2020's - because ultimately nothing in the music business changes. It's all about exploitation.

  4. George Gently takes on the Northern Soul scene. What a combination. How will the redoubtable and inscrutable Inspector Gently cope in a scene that offers only cover-up after cover-up?

Would love to be involved in anything to do with what is one of the best period cop/crime dramas in recent years. Is 47 too old to be a bit part player?

One question though, how did the evolutionaries of today's Northern Soul scene dance in the late 60s?

  5. Hello Tony, that's interesting but it's the real Gloria Jones. Lou was in touch with her again before he made this track available.

It was the first version of 'Gone With The Wind Is My Love' but at the time Lou couldn't reach an agreement with her manager Ed Cobb so he cut it on Rita Graham instead - and Ed Cobb took Gloria to Capitol Records.

And I assume that's why there isn't another Gloria Jones track for a flip side.

    Paul

I'm surprised that people didn't realise which Gloria Jones was being referred to here as soon as Ed Cobb was mentioned!

  6. A solid attempt at capturing the atmosphere of those early days and the subsequent development of 'Black' music in the UK.

A good editor is always useful in helping a writer to polish an article to a professional standard. With that help this one could sing even louder and clearer than it does.

  7. Bob, you confirm exactly what the 'Band on the Wall' website states (Band on the Wall being one of the organisers/sponsors)...

Expect to hear all the classics sung by The Impression's Fred Cash, Sam Gooden & Reggie Torrian, including People Get Ready, I'm So Proud, It's Alright, Move on Up and many more. With full 12-piece backing band The Curtom Orchestra and special guests to be announced, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy one of the greatest soul bands of all time live in Manchester. 8. It's amazing how in the commercial world anyone can be deemed a success or not based on simple monetary values. Yet, with talents like this, record sales, chart hits, or whatever measures you care to use in the short term are completely meaningless. Here, in this small corner of the internet, unlike the rest of the outside world, quality of talent is appreciated over the long term and, like the finest of wines we find it gets better with age.

When the last of the fine vintage is gone though, it is indeed a sad day as we can now only savour the memories, remember the past.

Only six months ago Dennis Billingham gave me a 10 inch acetate of an alternate take on Did My Baby Call. Gonna put it on the deck right now.

In this moment of sadness for a talent lost, let's all hear it.
