  1. Linda Jones - I can't stop loving my baby A 2nd Robert Henry acetate that I have of 'Walk away like a winner". The other one is an Advision acetate (posted earlier). Twistin' Dip - Take 2 on one side & Take 3 on the other. Don't know anything about this track. Any info appreciated.
  2. Some more from me - apologies for any duplicates!
  3. Click on 'More Reply Options' (bottom right of the text box when you're adding a reply). Then -> "Click to Upload/Attach Files". Once uploaded, click on "Add to Post" (Bottom right). And that's all...
  4. Just to add to the info... * E. Rodney Jones was an influential DJ in St Louis during the 1950s and whilst there was the first to break Sam Cooke's career-making 'You Send Me'. The original A side was 'Summertime', but it wasn't until Jones flipped it that others started to take note. * He was the first to give Aretha Franklin the epithet of 'Queen of Soul' - this was prior to her appearing on the cover of Time magazine with those words emblazoned across the page. * He was regular MC at the music shows held at Chicago's Regal Theatre. * When Stax was in financial and legal trouble during the 70s, Jones set up a legal defence fund for friend Al Bell. Jones proclaimed the fund would raise $100,000, but in fact fell $92,500 short!
  5. One hour, two hours, 20 minutes... whatever... Remember the days of mobile discos & early sound systems when there was just the one DJ and their 'roadshow' for the duration of the night?
  6. Im sure at one of his nights Keb Darge used to have DJ's on 20 minute rotations - that keep things very fresh!
  7. A quick search on YouTube for 'unknown Northern Soul' brings back a play box full of results. Of course there are plenty of discoveries yet to be made. I'll bet that there are 100s, probably 1000s of tracks sitting in collections and unknown to all except the owner. Here's three that I've picked up in recent months (each of which I've shared here before): https://youtu.be/V9m_Vk8k3m8 https://youtu.be/F1gpk4B5jIc https://youtu.be/cumvDC3hiEw
  8. Hmm, the image I posted a couple of days ago has mysteriously disappeared. Here it is again...
  9. French WB EP with Loma releases 2013 and 2017...
  10. Hardly. My words were very clear, thank you.
  11. Why 'dirty secret'? I've nothing to hide in my taste of music. I don't need to be clandestine about what I like. And labels like 'over-played' and 'over-rated'are merely subjective statements. One person's 'overplayed' oldie is the Top 10 fave of another. Each to their own. Couldn't answer your question specifically anyway; there are countless oldies that I still never tire of hearing.
  12. Thanks for the explanation of what Popsike is and how it works. I'd often wondered! Thanks too for the explanation into how markets work. Wow, the things you can learn on here! Note how I said "Much as with Popsike" and not "Exactly the same as Popsike". Language is a wonderful thing - it allows us to be very specific in communicating what we mean. Popsike provides us with data about the prices paid for records. JM provides us with prices based on data of prices paid for records. They both provide us with insights into what the market is prepared to pay for records in varying conditions. They are much alike!
  13. I wonder what progress Manship's made with the price guide app...
  14. Nothing to do with memory, Ricky (although I wish it was). I like Bunny Paul and so was curious enough to Google the track, which I'd not heard of before. A couple of clicks later and I was on the forum page where I found the same info you did!
  15. Amazing, you wrote exactly the same words as appears in topic 15 of this forum thread from 2010... https://vintagedetroittvandmovieboard.yuku.com/topic/1757/R-I-P-Fess-Parker
  16. Some of us aren't as old as you, Pete
  17. Much as with Popsike... As for the boot guide, I much prefer it in the back of the main publication where you can cross reference the actual listings with images of legitimate and not so legitimate copies.
  18. A wonderful resource for those like me who don't have encyclopaedic minds when it comes to artists, labels and songs. And then there's the price guide part of it. The key is never to forget that - like all reference works of its kind - it is a guide, not a tablet carved in stone! Couldn't do without it nowadays...
  19. I suspect that the heightened security because of the Olympics may be having an effect. Packages, especially from abroad, may be coming under closer scrutiny. Just a thought...
  20. It's great to know that I'm not alone in appreciating what for me is an over-looked soul masterpiece. Can't say that Dee Dee's version does anything for me at all - 'lily' and 'gilded' are the words that come to mind as far as her take is concerned.
  21. From January 1965 - I'm comin' home / Rainin' in my heart From March 1965 - Good lovin' / Olympic shuffle From July 1965 - Baby I'm yours / No more will I cry I have to say that Baby I'm yours is an absolutely sublime track, my favourite by the group and one of the best on the label (IMHO). All scans taken from the website Discography of Loma Records
  22. Well done that man! Your prize is a two week holiday - in Tehran! Thanks for that. Wow, some high prices being paid for these things! Peter Andre? Not the arse who went around with Jordan for a time? Nice. Australian? I also have an EP by him on the same Brazilian label...
