Last hour jobbie with a handful of spins I reckon Dave............ "Watch Out Girl" was pretty immediate - I remember a bunch of us singing it in the car between Blackpool and Wigan when it first broke.... Ian D

The Embers 'first Played Out' Type Info
I remember "Watch Out Girl" from the Mecca (Curtis) circa '75. However, I don't think Colin was first on it. I sure Pep or Sam had the first one but someone else would need to confirm......... Ian D

News: Acid Jazz - The 25Th Anniversary Box Set
No probs Davie. I can see you're a busy guy. Those pics are amazing by the way - that's some of the most beautiful country on these shores. I may go up there for a nice peaceful driving trip to get away from the madness down here..... Where was the club out of interest? I ask that 'cos one of the best gigs I did (with Paul Schofield) was in the middle of Scotland (for a guy called Tony Cochrane) sometime in the late 70's where he ferried coachloads of customers from all parts of Scotland in. I actually have an early VHS film of some of the gig with a HUGE crowd doing a line-dance to "Shante" by Mass Production. Has to be seen to be believed......... Ian D

Yep, for sure. Gilles Peterson went from Acid Jazz to Talkin' Loud. We tried for around 4 Talkin' Loud tracks and got 2. The other two got refused for inexplicable reasons. With projects like this, the main obstacle is always the licensing. We were lucky to get what we did as everything that cleared was on the original wish-list! Ian D

Cheers Jocko. Only about 25% is Acid Jazz and that includes the 2 unreleased Brand New Heavies songs on the exclusive 7" (one of which is a Brand New Heavies instrumental version of Aretha's "Rock Steady"). It's amazing the appeal of that track! It seems to have crossed a few boundaries since loads of people seem to love it. Yep, Dean did a bang-up job in documenting the scene I believe and does some exemporary sleeve notes (with original pics too). Even looking through the 50 page artwork book is like looking at a slice of UK history. If it comes out like it should, then it'll be proud to grace any shelf I reckon...... When you coming down for that drink....? Ian D

Yep, we had to license in a lot of outside repertoire from numerous sources. We figured there's been ample Acid Jazz label comps over the years, so this more to document the overall scene as opposed to just the label only. We didn't lose much and we managed to track down 98% of everything we went for, so we're pretty happy with the track listing. Ian D

Acid Jazz - The 25Th Anniversary Box Set
OK, it may not be up everybody's street, but there's some seriously great stuff within this beautiful package..... Harmless Records proudly present another superlative box set celebrating the 25th anniversary of one of the most iconic UK independent labels of all time… Acid Jazz, the brainchild of Eddie Piller and Giles Peterson was born in 1987 and immediately hit a chord in the UK by appealing to a cross section of serious fans from old school Jazzers, serious Jazz-Funkers, passionate Soulboys, sharp-dressed Mods, nodding Hip-Hoppers and even laid back Dreadas. Before long the tentacles of the Acid Jazz movement were spreading throughout the world and what began as a bedroom label between two mates soon became a mecca for various tribes who had become disenfranchised from other scenes. From international breakthrough successes like the Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai and the Totally Wired series, Acid Jazz cemented it’s image as one of the most iconic and unique UK record labels of the last 3 decades. Harmless Records is proud to present a beautiful collectors box set featuring:- 1 x square secure box with the Acid Jazz logo in embossed silver foil * 4 x Audio CD’s + wallets * 1 x video DVD + wallet featuring an exclusive interview with Eddie Piller & Dean Rudland plus 12 vintage Acid Jazz promotional videos * 1 x 20 page booklet featuring the Acid Jazz story with unique pictures written by Dean Rudland and Eddie Piller * 1 x 52 page booklet featuring the Acid Jazz artwork throughout the last 25 years * 1 x 7” vinyl record featuring 2 unreleased original Acid Jazz recordings exclusive to the box set Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009DW5Z2Y/ref=s9_simh_bw_p15_d1_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0AJETA6F38J1Y4P5TNB4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=323735287&pf_rd_i=229816 Eddie Piller & Dean Rudland have compiled over 5 hours of music across several genres which scans the key periods in Acid Jazz history…… Track Listing CD1 — Put It All Together and What Do You Get 1. Black Box - Fall Into My Love
Oh....did someone mention my name......? Oh yes LOL. That would be the time when I had a very viscous cold and had to clear my lungs of mucus over the Lincolnshire countryside, rolled the window down and attempted to do an impressive spit whilst going @ 60mph. The way that snot left my my mouth and immediately blew back into the open rear window hitting Arthur Fenn directly in the mouth could probably never be replicated. A work of art really and a moment I know Arthur will cherish forever...... Exploding balls and exploding snot. It's all the same to me Steve. As long as it explodes that is. Ian D
