  1. OK, that's the first thing I'll look up...... Ian D
  2. Actually I have access to the masters register. It's a huge typewritten list and contained within 3 huge ring-bind folders. I let Tim Brown loose on it a few years ago and he identified some very interesting looking stuff in there.I'll dig 'em out again. I might have to retreive 'em from archives but I'll get them in my hands this week whilst we're on this topic. Mind you, it's all very well identifying the stuff but another thing entirely having to pay for the retreival and transfer LOL.... Ian D
  3. Compiled by one DJ Frank some 39 years ago. The first album I ever compiled! Ian D
  4. Me too. A groundbreaking journey of discovery for me. I listened to the whole album in full multiple times when it came out round at my mate, Al Horseford's flat in Huddersfield, along with James Brown Live At The Apollo Vol 2. There is no doubt that those two albums shaped my experience and musical taste at a key point in my life. I remember saying to Al at the time, "can it seriously get any better" and he said "No, not really". And it hasn't. Within their respective areas, these two albums still top it for me. Ian D
  5. Actually this is a comp that's yelling out to be done. Sounds right up Ace/Kent's strasse although I don't know difficult this stuff may be to license. Has anyone licensed anything from the Major lately or ever? Ian D
  6. That's a great choice. It's such an irresistible hook and arrangement that anyone who doesn't know it will still shuffle their feet and enjoy it. Ian D
  7. It'd be a great idea but the licensing would be a nightmare and probably quite costly. Demon have the Invictus/Hot Wax recordings and potential access to the Brunswick and Bamboo repertoire but Universal have the Revue recordings and I think you'd need them for sure. Lee Charles would suit a Backbeats release but I wouldn't be able to licence in the Universal stuff as that would push the dealer price up. Could be one for Kent? Ian D
  8. He must have some outside clout to operate successfully as an independent black entrepreneur in Texas. I'm pretty sure that this was a guy who generally got his way. Ian D
  9. Hi Chaps, Yep, I need to keep clearing down these shelves so I've lopped these prices down to bargain basement level to try and clear 'em, so this will be the last S.S. listing on these titles before they go onto Discogs along with another 2200 titles. I'm basically sifting out anything that may be of interest to S.S. members before they go mainstream. Fairest way to do this is on a firstcome/first served basis, so I'll deal with all PM's in the order I receive 'em OK? 10. What a shame. RIP James. Tom Moulton has just done a spellbinding remix of "Got To Get You Back" which should be out in March. Very special! Ian D
  11. Well that's nothing like I remember at all to be honest. I seem to remember "It May Be Winter Outside", "I'm Under The Influence Of Love" and "Surree Surrender" coming out AFTER "I Feel Love Comin' On" which was her ONLY UK hit - none of the others charted. It's obviously possible that the others did come out before her hit and then got reissued to capitalize on the hit. "I Feel Love Comin' On" was the first record I ever bought with my own pocket money and was 12 at the time so maybe I missed the earlier action? Ian D
  12. Yeah, I've got no doubt it is, as someone, somewhere would've turned these up before surely. Strange old world..... Ian D
  13. That's a full-time job to organise Dave! Plus I just added you another 8 pieces of vinyl LOL.... Ian D
  14. The Torch sounds too early to me. I'm sure this broke around 1974 or thereabouts. I'm pretty sure there was a race to pick up a couple of copies Brian Phillips got around this time. It never went huge but was a solid play for a while back then. Good nitty-gritty Northern .... Ian D
  15. I just don't get this. Can't find anything out about these recordings on t'internet. They sound pretty authentic though, check this:- https://youtu.be/4GlsNSWDVdM Ian D
  16. Try this:- https://youtu.be/LvXLuYXPL94 Ian D
  17. A f*ckin' pain in the ass. I just moved and shifting 10K records was no fun. I'm thinning 'em down all the time..... Ian D
  18. What the hell is this? https://youtu.be/y115_2h4a68 Must be a wind-up surely? Ian D
  19. The Chinese market LOL. We'll be long gone by then Kev..... Ian D
  20. There's a market for everything if you know how to reach the buyers. It's a big wide world out there and I have customers everywhere. The only barrier to cultivating them is the high cost of postage! Having said that, I'd say that prices are dropping for almost all genres apart from the upper echelon of rare Soul which is a law unto itself....... Ian D
  21. It's the instrumental to the track "6 O'Clock" by the Loving' Spoonful - a well-known 60's Pop/Rock group. I was never sure where this came from. Was there an LP by a group called the Total Eclipses? I dunno? I think it's perfect traditional Northern Soul and one of the best instrumentals of all time. It got bootlegged too quickly as "Supertime" by the Golden World Strings so wherever it originally came from got lost in the sands of time. F*ckin' GREAT instrumental! Ian D
  22. Wow, look at that. They've gone from my brain directly onto Amazon. How the hell did that happen???? That'll be our sales boys raring to go, so they've wacked the titles up already. All cover artwork is done, 9 out of 12 of the track-listings are completed and cleared, just waiting for the last 3 stragglers and then everything will up there! Ian D
  23. I did mention the latest 5 Backbeats Artists albums just before Xmas:- I think most of 'em are here:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_9?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=backbeats+series&sprefix=backbeats%2Cpopular%2C217#/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=backbeats+series&rh=n%3A229816%2Ck%3Abackbeats+series However, the good news is that I'm just finishing off another 12 multi-artist compilations which should all be ready for March. Track listings coming up shortly! Ian D
  24. Blimey. You must have a warehouse! Ian D
