  4. Any takers for this one.....? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/the-delfonics-7-DEMO-when-you-get-right-down-to-it-1973-UK-BELL1285-EX-/190819822170?pt=UK_Records&hash=item2c6dbf6a5a Ian D
  5. I may just list the ones I can remember clearly. A LOT of the better 70's stuff came from me or via me from the mid 80's as I sold to Sam, Pat and numerous collectors who dropped by. I had stacks of stuff that I didn't even rate as dancers back then - Si Hightower, Essex 1V, Four Tracks, We The People, Ujima, The Differences, the Ultimates etc, etc... Ian D
  6. Dam and blast! I really need those crunchie's on a Friday. Nowt else to look forward to these days....... Ian D
  7. LOL, actually I wasn't alluding to Kev's "Metropolis Stomp Time" which is rockin' anyway and the greatest value of all time for that level of repertoire I thought you meant another one of the six! Ian D
  8. I wanna thank you John (as Willie Tee once said). Next 6 are coming up on 13/05/13! Ian D
  9. LOL, I know the answer to that. Surprisingly, that's actually the biggest seller out of all of 'em, as of today plus massive exports happening on that title too. Weird ay? Less prejudice abroad possibly? Either way, I still like it. I think it gathers together a lot of stuff that people missed or never even heard...... Ian D
  10. There was a relatively healthy interest in Northern Soul from the UK record companies at the time. There'd been a stream of UK Top 40 hits with Northern records including a No.1 with the Tams and a No.3 with R. Dean Taylor plus other hits from Rodger Collins, the Exciters and, ahem, Wigan's Chosen Few, so the UK companies were receptive to doing some relatively cheap reissues from their own back catalogues. Plus some of us were plugged in to different companies - Ian Levine with Pye via Dave Macaleer, Richard Searling as a promotion guy for RCA and me as a promotion guy for Decca. Hence the Pye Disco Demand series, the UK RCA reissues and the UK Cameo/London and Brunswick reissues. I actually got congratulary phone calls when the Yvonne Baker/Bobby Paris reissue flirted with the bottom of the Top 100 and again when Adam's Apples got on the Capital 'C' list LOL.... Ian D
  11. Yep. Neil approached U.S. Columbia Special Projects direct I believe. Ian D
  12. Hi Geoff, If you're after "There Are Many Stops Along The Way" I've a Limited 12" Sampler for sale here:- https://www.discogs.com/buy/Vinyl/Wilton-Felder-Stix-Hooper-Joe-Sample-Your-Personal-Introduction-To/40500566?ev=bp_titl Cheers, Ian D
  13. There was a guy who lived, ate and breathed the scene. He'd often jump on a train to Leeds during the week back in my vinyl junky days and he'd spend the day at my place just playing through stuff and talking music. I got to really look forward to Pete coming over 'cos he always had a new slant on things and his knowledge was pretty awesome in the pre-internet age. I learnt something from every visit. That guy was no slouch although I'd often have to work through what he was saying at times. RIC. Rest In Chaos Pete! Ian D
  14. Had a great weekend! Decided to venture out locally for a change on Friday night and went to a venue on my road. Admittedly, 3 miles along my road in the wilds of highest surrey. There was a Soul do on and it ended up like being a Soulboy reunion. Saw tons of people I haven't seen for years and had a great time. Didn't realise there was so much action on my doorstep LOL. Then up to Manchester for the Ritz Revival which was rocking! Lovely vibe all round, decent numbers and two rooms vibing. Played a 1 hour Northern set upstairs and then a 2 hour Ritz set downstairs. Had a thoroughly great time and brilliant to see so many old mates from across the North. Also I debuted a couple of the new Tom Moulton remixes which went down a storm. New York City's "I'm Doing Fine Now" got the downstairs room at the Ritz buzzing and then it was pure gravy for the next two hours! Yep. Great weekend! Ian D
  15. And that's where we totally agree Geeselad! Quite simply the greatest House tune ever made and right up there in there in my Top 10 records of all time! Doesn't get any better for me! Ian D
  16. Hey, I'm the other end of the spectrum Geeselad. I like to hear my true soul unhindered by a terrible production if possible. I get frustrated with terrible productions. Whenever I hear 'em I think, "if only..........." Ian D
  17. Rubbish. There's no one-size-fits-all equation here. I consider some of the things I hear out as badly produced trash that wouldn't be played out in a month of Sundays if they weren't rare. I've never played the Bob Sinclar out as it's way too poppy for me personally but I wouldn't denigrate another DJ for playing it. I don't think it's got anything to do with point of reference or ego either. The people with ego problems are the ones who try and outguess the dance-floor in my experience. Ian D
  18. I think you missed my point Pete. It's not a rip-off if the seller freely gives his P&P prices, as this guy has done. How is that ripping anyone off? It may be expensive but any bidder will simply add that to the cost of buying the record or not bother bidding. Easy. There's a £3 price difference between sandwiches where I work. I don't call the people who sell the £5 sandwiches rip-off merchants, I simply don't bother shopping there. Plus, this seller has the diametric opposite business plan to your good self! Ian D
  19. Definitely the same Chris Peake then? Yeah, I'm pretty sure I met John back then 'cos his name's real familiar. I've got a feeling I may have met him at one of the Capitol Records swap meets. Some of these guys were vaguely familiar with Northern Soul at the time, mainly through wants-lists from the UK, but the rare record scene was still in it's infancy then, so I'd always spend time with these characters and try and go through what they had. I think John Manship's the best guy for John Hillyard stories as he dealt with him regularly I believe. Is that guy Darryl Stolper (?) still around? He had a collection and a half I seem to remember.......? The memories are flooding back LOL.... Ian D
  20. I agree that it's blatant but he's made it obvious and he's getting plenty of bids so obviously the postage charges aren't deterring bidders. Surely if you don't agree with the seller's postage prices then don't bid? Some sellers build a higher postage mark-up to cover their overheads. It's really up the bidder to decide whether or not to proceed under those circumstances surely? Ian D
  21. Y'know what I mean LOL? It should be really shit @ that price, but it's actually good. Apart from the fact that the twats shortened "Are You Ready For This"...... Ian D
  22. Well that's the beauty of great music mate! It's exactly the same for most of us. Music is virtually the only thing that can transform my mood instantly and get me to a better place quickly. Glad they helped. Try Ralph's "Lay Back & Chill" if you wanna get really relaxed! Ian D
  23. It was a timing issue. In order to get this amount of tunes on the album we used the 7" mixes on several tracks. Also the longer mixes of some tracks are on other comps so we wanted to provide some alternative versions. So Norman Connors, Johnny Taylor, the Brothers, Bill Harris and the Trumains to name a few are the 7" mixes which are unavailable anywhere else to my knowledge. Bloody hell, I can't believe I lost a 5 star rating for providing a 7" single mix to a Soul Source contributor LOL. You should check out the Tom Moulton releases if you like long mixes! Glad you enjoyed 'em though! Not bad for a fiver surely? Ian D
  24. Some good examples on here..... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Backbeats-Steps-Soul-Heaven-More-Steppers/dp/B0062Y9CFC Ian D
  25. I guess that kinda makes sense. He appeared to like Blue Oyster Cult and the Raspberries too along with the L.A. garage stuff but he was pretty knowledgeable about records generally. He reminded me a bit of Charles Manson at the time. I kept half expecting him to slam me with an axe or something if he caught me looking in one of his 'private' stacks LOL. He liked a good breakfast though. I'll give him that! Terrible social skills though..... Ian D
