  1. Yep, there's several different interpretations of what the "Back Door" lyrics were all about, but Clarence seemed to have an affinity for sexual innuendo lyrics - "Money And Women", "Looking For A Fox", "Getting The Bills (But No Merchandise)", "Strokin'" etc, etc. Either way, I'm not gonna get into a discussion with the mother-in-law on Christmas Day about the lyrics to "Back Door Santa" thank you very much! Ian D
  2. Isn't that technically two copies, since there's a typo mistake on the top one? Ian D
  3. I shudder to think what that's about! I can imagine the reaction to that on Christmas morning...... Ian D
  4. Wow. Looks like Sandy Golden is a hot tip! Please believe me when I say I'm gonna pick up the phone and get ANYONE who was involved in this release on the phone and ask where the other 495 copies are.....? Ian D
  5. Actually, Richard has the expertise to do a release like this properly and if 2,200 have been manufactured then I'd say that's a great result for all concerned. As powerful as Universal are, they're not as concerned about limited appeal deep catalogue releases because it's not really worth their while, so it really makes more business sense to farm out the specialist releases to the right parties and in this case they got it 100% correct. I'd rather Richard was doing this stuff than anyone else. Makes all the sense in the world in my view. Ian D
  6. I keep 3 copies of everything I ever release. One is opened so I can check quality control and generally admire the finished product and the other two are kept sealed and kept as back up. What always happens is that I inevitably give away one or two of the sealed copies and have to live with the one I opened in the first place...... This is a brilliant box set by the way. Good on Richard for doing it. I wish him every success. Ian D
  7. Actually Richard Searling always has this in his box in the mid 70's but I can't ever recall him playing it. I'm surprised it was covered as I thought it was always 'known'..... Ian D
  8. One of my favourite Christmas track of all time but unfortunately PIR is not licenseable at the moment. A real shame 'cos it would have fitted beautifully! Ian D
  9. That'll be fun. I could put you in touch with someone who could be worth talking to - one of the good guys who has several brilliant books under his belt and could be good for yours so PM me if you want an introduction..... Ian D
  10. I know mate. It's good that we finally agree on the Paula Parfit record though innit? What's happening with the book dude? Ian D
  11. Produced by one Des Champ who is the dad of my radio compatriot, Alan Champ. Unfortunately, this is one record I'm not really fond of. I think Alan has some unreleased Paula knocking around but I haven't taken the bait yet.... Ian D
  12. Yep. The music business always had that veneer of stardust about it. I can't tell you how many normally very conservative rich guys lost all sense of perspective when they were financing productions for their new 'investments' LOL.... Ian D
  13. Yep. What the hell he was doing in Memphis in the early 70's is anybody's guess. The wrong place at the wrong time for this guy even though the record is actually great... Ian D
  14. Bugger! Didn't know it! A b*stard 'cos I'm mates with Frank Lipsius who owns Jaimie/Guyden so I could have licensed it. OK, another contender for Vol 2 then.... Good call. Ian D
  15. It would have been on here Geeselad 'cos it's also top of my tree too. Unfortunately Philly International is off-limits at present. Hopefully Vol 2! Ian D
  16. OK, so I take it that the tunes you personally like aren't catchy and have no repetitive vocals? Out of curiosity, what tunes do you like? Ian D
  17. Genius Sharmo! You're in the wrong job mate. Ian D
  18. Jesus. Apparently "My Room Is 6 X 6" by Tony Turner on Musicor actually does exist! No smoke without fire....... Ian D
  19. Getting some decent traction already..... Amazon Bestsellers Rank: 1,915 in Music (See Top 100 in Music) #20 in Music > R&B and Soul > Soul #97 in Music > Christmas Music https://www.amazon.co.uk/Soulful-Christmas-Various-Artists/dp/B00GD71XZK £9.00 to your door too! Beats the shit out of hearing Slade and Wizzard for the gazzilionth time! Ian D .
  20. Yep, 'twas me. I saw this on Discogs over the weekend and thought exactly what you thought! Ian D
  21. Probably slightly too dated for this comp Robb. Generally speaking, it's really hard to sell-in anything from the 50's or 60's to any of the major buyers, so I could only manage a handful of the more well-known 60's ones for this comp unfortunately.... Who owns that Jan Bradley track out of curiosity? First time I've heard it...... Ian D
  22. Christmas repertoire is quite carefully protected by the various labels as they all have their own Christmas albums which never seem to go out of catalogue, so out of every 50 tracks applied for, a good 60% will generally get turned down. So, as per normal, these comps are never easy. The Horace Williams was a 'lil bit too left-field for this one I'm afraid Kev. Great choice though! Ian D
  23. I always thought this was a weird one....helluva voice but I guess he just didn't look the part..... "Holy Cow" - Stefan Ian D
