  1. Listen at your own risk. If you like what they call Deep House these days, then this is for you..... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Deep-Intentions-Dance-Floor-Anthems-Underground/dp/B00B1MBIM0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389790136&sr=8-1&keywords=deep+intentions Ian D
  2. And here's our Soulful treat for today....... Message In The Music: The Ashley Beedle Re-Edits present New York Port Authority - Guess I'm Gonna Cry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngw2V15Kl9g Ian D
  3. We were so, so lucky to find that Doris Duke track. What an atmospheric slice of 70's funk...... Ian D
  4. 4 years in the making and it couldn't happen with a nicer guy either. A true technician of the re-edit. Ian D
  5. It's going to have a pretty wide audience I hope Jocko. A bit eclectic for me too but I like to give different stuff a try every now and then. It could be worse - I've got a bangin' Saaaarf London Deep House album out in 3 weeks too but that would be the last nail in my coffin if I posted it here. And, yes, I'm up for a drink as you've probably realised so gimme a shout and let me know where you'll be imbibing..... Ian D
  6. Gotcha loud and clear Mike. Can you move it? Ian D
  7. One would hope so Geeselad. There's a large degree of cross-pollination (i.e. I don't think there's many lovers of the Fall on here) but Ashley's influences are pretty diverse and he digs like a bastard so it's a real musical odyssey. Plus I was unaware of the Ace, Cado Belle, Panama and Kylie Auldist tracks too which was pleasant plus the added bonus that I've totally fallen in love with New York Port Authority for the first time - "Guess I'm Gonna Cry" (with Steve Mancha on vocals I believe) has been going through my head all week along with "Rainbow" which kinda reminds me of Crown Heights Affair with a more Soulful lead. Here's another l'il taster with snippets of Doris Duke, Gene Chandler and 8th Day..... "Message In The Music: The Ashley Beedle Re-Edits" - 3 Track Video Promo Sampler Doris Duke/Gene Chandler/8th Day Ian D
  8. "Rainbow - New York Port Authority - Ashley Beedle Re-Edit Ian D
  9. Not traditional Soul Source territory I know, but this may be of interest to some, especially the Ruth Copeland, New York Port Authority, 8th Day, Holland-Dozier, Gene Chandler and Doris Duke tracks among others. I'll post up some promo clips of the more relevant tracks shortly..... The project first began way back in November 2009 and has mutated every year since then, until we finally got the album that we wanted to release. Within the previous four years we have had to deal with missing master tapes, companies changing ownership, deals finishing etc, etc, so the track-listing has evolved organically, which was exactly right for this project. Many of these tunes are appearing on CD for the first time and, as usual, Ashley’s superbly eclectic and wide-ranging taste in music has delivered a project which is jam-packed with innovation and experimentation. CD1 takes a trip through some early 1970’s cult dance rock classics from Family, Ace, Cado Belle, Ruth Copeland and even the Fall before branching into some seriously rhythmic and percussive rare dance classics from Panama, Brainstorm, New York Port Authority, Los Africanos, the 8th Day, Bill Withers & Cymande. CD2 features some awe-inspiring selections from the Soul/Funk/Rare-Groove arena with Brainstorm, Holland-Dozier, Gene Chandler, Donna McGhee, Three Pieces, Switch, The Gap Band, Kyle Auldist, the Astra Nova Orchestra, Doris Duke and Heaven N’ Hell to round off an incredible musical journey. Each and every tune has the usual sure-fire signatures of a top-notch Ashley Beedle re-edit and should easily follow the recent successes of Ashley’s 12” releases, Yardism 1 & 2 (DJ magazine’s Record of the Week for both releases). Also included within the package, will a bonus DVD featuring a full Ashley Beedle interview about the making of Message In The Music with a track-by-track analysis with DJ Magazine’s Ben Murphy grilling Ashley about his studio work and how he became one of the worlds’ foremost Re-Edit experts. Plus we also include a 20 page booklet with sleeve notes by Ben Murphy and exclusive pics of Ashley from a brand new session. Message In The Music will run another huge-profile PR campaign which take in all key music related publications and all online activity throughout January and February 2014. The album will be promoted to radio from the 20/01/2014 with a sustained 3 week campaign up to the release date and beyond including a large number of Ashley Beedle interviews on key shows. After 4 years in the making, we can’t wait to see this album finally reach the public. Make no mistake — the wait has been worthwhile! CD 1 1. Burlesque - Family Ashley Beedle Re-Edit 5.33 2. 10. One reason why I've always particularly favoured promos over issues. The first batch off the presses always sound crisper to me, whether vinyl or styrene. Ian D
  11. Yeah, I didn't get the full story from Mel. He wanted me to use it on a Paradise Garage comp I was doing with his blessing but which unfortunately never happened and I was calculating how much it would cost to license from Universal and he said he owned it and that Berry had given him the master and paperwork. I'm sure there's a deeper story there somewhere 'cos Berry wasn't renowned for giving away his masters was he? Ian D
  12. Even more interesting is the fact that Berry Gordy gave the master rights to the Carl Bean record to West End Records owner Mel Cheren. Ian D
  13. Incredible work Simon and, I believe, the first time those lyrics have ever become available on t'internet. This song is just sheer poetry from a lyrical perspective. Brilliant stuff mate. Thankyou very much! Ian D
  14. Yep, me too! If anyone could supply the full lyrics for "I Hurt On The Other Side" I'd be beholden for life...... Ian D
  15. Yep. William Bell's "Happy" was obviously written to be a Pop hit. I was never over-keen on it personally. It was a little too Pop for me even 45 years ago. It pretty much has the same sentiment as the Pharrell record but with the benefit of great 60's production values. Ian D
  16. If William Bell's "Happy" had hit No.1 then would it have been perceived as a Pop record I wonder....? Ian D
  17. Yep. A miracle it got to No.1 at all at this time of year! A good sign methinks..... Ian D
  18. I love the way we're talking about Pop Music at the same time as a phenomenal uptempo Soul record is the No.1 Pop record in the U.K...... Ian D
  19. Porky's did all the Mastercuts albums. I think George had stopped drinking by then! Ian D
  20. I can't see that any of these would have been done for the UK market. Dodgy for sure but who were they intended for I wonder.....? Ian D
  21. I agree. "There's That Mountain" must be one of the toughest ever originals. I've hardly ever seen one..... Ian
  22. I think both terrestrial Radio and TV have given up the ghost. There's obviously no money anymore. The DAB licenses were ridiculously overpriced for an unproven medium which is inferior anyway. And TV? Forget it. How many times can ITV show "Love Actually"? I don't think Jazz FM had any choice from a business perspective. Ian D
  23. Nope. Rob rang me before the gig to tell me he had something special for me. I think time has proved him right! Rob was always turning great records up. I'm sure he had an early in with Soul Bowl. And Happy New Year to you too! Ian D
  24. I remember Sam's copy. Labels looked battered. I also made the mistake of stickering the Lou Pride mentioned above. After that I just thought 'f*ck it* I'd rather not cover stuff up and damage the labels..... Ian D
  25. Bought from Bob from Louth on a foggy Thursday night in Lincolnshire. Covered as James Lewis "I'm Coming Home" until some more copies came through after a few weeks..... Ian D
