  1. It was pretty spectacular I thought. I almost went but it's the opposite end of town to me......... Ian D
  2. The Brits finally acknowledge Northern Soul. Better 45 years late than never I guess.... Ian D
  3. I don't think they have been overlooked at all. This was a pre-publicity advance showing in conjunction with BBC 6 and no doubt arranged completely separately from other screenings which will be coming up soon. I'm sure Elaine will sort out appropriate screenings for all and sundry when she's dealt with the zillion and one things she has to deal with at this stage. It must be sheer murder for her at the moment. I haven't even seen it yet and I'm involved with the soundtrack! Patience is a virtue my friend. Have a little faith and understanding. Ian D
  4. 25 shops in Hamburg alone???? Blimey, they have more record shops in Hamburg than London! Ian
  5. OK, since the sun's actually out today, here's a little treat for everyone..... This is the FULL Ashley Beedle Re-Edit of "Rainbow" - New York Port Authority If this doesn't put a smile on your face then nothing will! Ian
  6. Yep. Pretty incredible. You couldn't give it away in the 70's. Had one stuck in my sales box for several years! Ian D
  7. Well, halfway through the week and "Message In The Music: The Ashley Beedle Re-Edits" is FLYING out! It feels like the old days when hot records really took off. In 3 different Top 10's on Amazon too and a sterling No.67 in yesterday's midweek charts. Great stuff! I'm so happy this worked out after 4 years of slog! Congrats to Ashley Beedle - one of the UK's true dance music pioneers. Amazon Bestsellers Rank: 249 in Music (See Top 100 in Music) #6 in Music > Hip-Hop & Rap #8 in Music > Dance & Electronic > House #10 in Film & TV > Music DVDs https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008ULM8JW/ref=s9_simh_gw_p15_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1QYXTP253YN66YESBRKB&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455344027&pf_rd_i=468294 Ian D
  8. Is the delta the same as Louise Lewis Ms LL? If it was, it would fall-in with another one of my famous half-baked theories............ Ian D
  9. I think you could easily. "At The Top Of The Stairs" and "Hey Girl Don't Bother Me" from the 60's, "You Sexy Sugar Plum" and "The Flasher" from the 70's etc, etc...no shortage of commercial tunes from all the eras in my memory...... And Bettye Swan sounds a lot more commercial these days then when it was first released, when it sounded a bit too dated compared to the smoother and even more commercial Philly that was coming through at the time. Ian D
  10. I found it in L.A. in '76. It was too messy for plays in the 70's so it sat on my shelves until Sam bought it off me sometime in the mid 80's I believe......... Ian D
  11. Me to. I never remembered it being this good! Ian D
  12. Marvin Gaye's original passport! Full story here:- https://www.eurweb.com/2014/02/marvin-gayes-1964-passport-found-inside-an-album-bought-for-50-cents/ Ian D
  13. Lou Courtney "Trying To Find My Woman"..... Ian D
  14. I think her version of "Lone Lonely Town" is the best one..... Ian D
  15. Same as above. I accidentally deleted it. I'm really not very good with this stuff.but for those who missed it, these are such fabulous tracks..... "Rainbow - New York Port Authority - Ashley Beedle Re-Edit "Guess I'm Gonna Cry" - New York Port Authority - Ashley Beedle Re-Edit Ian D
  16. Same thing in reverse - if "You Don't Love Me Anymore" - Johnny Caswell had been a pop hit I guess........ Same sound pretty much... Ian D
  17. Hi All, Further to the conjecture about the Lee Charles track "I Just Want To Be Loved", it would appear there's a clip of him singing it live on Soul Train in this episode:- Season 3, Episode 8 Aired: November 10, 1973 The Four Tops/ Bloodstone/ Lee Charles --The Four Tops ""Are You Man Enough"" and ""Sweet Understanding Love"" --Bloodstone ""Natural High"" abd ""Never Let You Go"" --Lee Charles ""Love Ain't Gonna Run Away"" and ""I Just Want to Be Loved"" Unfortunately it's not on You Tube and I can't seem to locate it anywhere else so I wondered if anyone here has seen the clip? Ian D
  18. Nice one Dave but the BT Puppy recording was "Don't Cry, Sing Along With The Music" by the Tokens old bean. Melba's "Don't Cry" was on Musicor. Ian D
  19. Funny this should come up as I've been listening to his Decca stuff over the weekend. I've actually always loved his voice as I listened to his stuff as I was growing up. The productions are just incredible too. Has anyone ever heard the album he did for Buddah in 1972 by any chance? Judging by the sleeve and the title I'm not holding my breath.........,. https://www.discogs.com/Len-Barry-Ups-And-Downs/release/5065854 Ian D
  20. Whoops, just realised I loaded the wrong video clip earlier, so for those who want a quick sample of Doris Duke, Gene Chandler and 8th Day, here it is:-- "Message In The Music: The Ashley Beedle Re-Edits" - 3 Track Video Promo Sampler Doris Duke/Gene Chandler/8th Day Ian D
  21. LOL, he has a wide taste. He sure knew his Hi stuff and did some blinding work on Al Green and Syl Johnson before we unfortunately got denied....... Ian D
  22. Blimey, can't have that, especially if you're down here in February! Here's a l'il taster:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RbgBanf1Mg&feature=share I want you to be 100% sure about what you're getting into here...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB-vfnXoByU Ian D
  23. I quite like doing projects like this because they kind of force me to check out different areas. It turns out that the kids of 2014 aren't that different from the kids of 1974. They spend most of the weekend out, they have a liberal attitude towards drugs and they require fast music. I think kids generally need high-octane music to burn off all their energy. When I went out with 'em it was great. Got to the first place @ 12.00am and I was still having a whale of a time @ 1.00pm the next day three clubs later. Took me approximately 2 months to recover though...... Ian D
  24. Oh, for some reason couldn't post this up earlier but this what the whole deal looks like....... Ian D
  25. DJ Deeper Purpose who runs the Deep Intentions nights is currently courting my 20 year old angelic daughter (who was also hanging around with that Tulisa last week grrr). So, because Steve aka Deeper Purpose is always sniffing around my place, I've been getting a consistent soundtrack of what they call Deep House over the last 15 months. Plus they dragged me down to Egg a couple of months back and I was the last man standing LOL, so I've been dipping my toe into yoof culture LOL..... It's actually more or less a complete copy of late 80's House but better recorded in my view. Not enough Soul content for my ears but I like da riddims...... Ian D
