  1. Is it limited release Ian ?

Well, at this point limited to 1000 only. Experience in this area makes us think that this will probably sell up to 1000 units internationally quite quickly and then recede equally quickly. So the chances of a potential re-press wouldn't kick in unless we had a guaranteed further 500 orders. So, yep, I reckon we'll press 1000 and sell 'em quickly but as for a re-press.......who knows......?

This stuff is difficult to call and the market is constantly churning so most companies hedge their bets quite carefully and caution is the name of the game.

  2. Both of the Ringleaders tracks are excellent! I have ordered both 45s and I am eagerly waiting for delivery. The stand out track for me though is the Sharpees "take me to your leader". The horn arrangement in the chorus is mindblowing. Both uptempo tracks will definitely be played by me next time I DJ!

Btw, is there another version of the Sharpees Take me to your leader? I got a notion of recognition...

I just heard that Sharpees track! What a monster of a record! Can't believe a song that good has been buried that long. If they keep digging out stuff as good as this and that Valdons record then more power to 'em...

  4. Very sad news. I just heard that Vincent Montana Jr passed away today, right as I was putting my show together. By co-incidence I was programming a whole heap of the new Tom Moulton Philly Re-Grooved Vol 3 remixes, virtually all of which featured Vincent, so he was running all through the show anyway. This news adds a lot of poignancy to today’s show, so we’ll be running a Vincent Montana Jr tribute throughout the whole show as a mark of respect to one of the greatest arrangers in dance music history. He could play mean vibes too!

Obviously today’s show is gonna feature a lot of Philly OK!

  5. I thought I'd post this up as most Soul Sourcers will appreciate the thrill of unwrapping various packages full of records. Well this is me unwrapping the first delivery of Philadelphia International: The Tom Moulton Remixes: Special Vinyl Edition.

Exactly the same thrill as you have when opening a much anticipated package from the U.S. except this time it's unwrapping the vinyl edition of Harmless's biggest-selling release of the last 12 months. So good it should be a time-capsule!

  6. Finished copies arrived in the office yesterday and all I can say is, Wow! A beautiful thing to own.

Word of warning. We have now pre-sold 750 of the 1000 units we manufactured and because of the expense of pressing so much vinyl on anything less than a 1000 units, it's unlikely that we'll re-press unless we can guarantee another 1000 units at some point. So just 250 units left for anyone who hasn't pre-ordered already. Just saying like......

Now a phenomenal £57.86 inc delivery. This is a heavy package!

  7. I've got two record store day releases coming up this year. Might be of interest to S.S. Readers.....

ASHROCKS1 Ashley Beedle Rocks Re-Edits — Record Store Day Limited Edition

A special treat for Record Store Day! We’re delighted to release two classic Rock tunes which have never been on 12” ever and now both have the benefit of receiving spanking new Ashley Beedle re-edits, which take both tunes to another level.

Family’s “Burlesque”, always one of the GREAT Funk/Rock classics, now gets re-booted into a tour-de-force of sonic wizardry with a 5.33 booming Ashley Beedle workout designed to shake the foundations of any room. From the second that Rob Townsend and John Wetton’s drum and bass establishes the groove and Charlie Whitney’s guitar riff kicks in we know we’re in for a masterpiece Funk/Rock opus before Roger Chapman floors everyone with his best razor-gargling wailing ever. A masterpiece!

Appreciated in collector’s circles and with Rolling Stones aficionados for decades, Ruth Copeland’s incredible version of the Stone’s "Gimme Shelter" has been many a DJ’s ‘secret weapon’ for the last two decades. Ashley Beedle has weaved his magic again and produced 9 minute plus marathon workout  which features such luminaries as bassist Billy ‘Bass’ Wilson, guitarist Eddie Hazel and keyboardist  Bernie Worrell among many others. Has to be heard to be believed and the best way to do this is on this one-off 12” release!

HELLFIRE1 The Heaven N’ Hell Remixes — Ashley Beedle & Tom Moulton - Record Store Day Limited Edition

Ever since the inclusion of the Tom Moulton remix on the best-selling “Philly Re-Grooved” album, Heaven N’ Hell’s hypnotic “Whatcha Gonna Do” has been the No.1 most requested track for Harmless to release on 12” vinyl.

Well the wait is finally over and it’s been worth it. We’re proud to announce that this iconic anthem now gets a full 12” release for the first time ever! Plus we’ve added a brand new 9.54 Ashley Beedle rework which is currently blowing people away together with the original 9.48 Tom Moulton remix and as a special treat we’ve rescued a never-before released 10.19 Tom Moulton Instrumental remix.

Demand will be extremely high from the off as none of these tracks have ever been available on 12” before and our indications are that this tune will very much become one of the anthems of summer 2013. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya!

  8. Great stuff. Does that get me playing it on Top Of The Pops? The make-up department will be busy.

Not quite Top Of The Pops, but if you've got a PR person they should be yelling from the rooftops! For a deep-specialist album like this to even be in the Top 200 is a f*ckin' miracle plus it's holding today as well which is brilliant.

Ministry Of Sound are probably on the phone now asking who these Pied Piper guys are and how did Ministry miss 'em..........

  9. I bought three of the Backbeat cd's recently - can't remember the titles. Two of them were compiled by Sean H - so I knew they'd have some good soul music on and the other was more of a well known sixties fest! I've enjoyed them all and added some new 45's to the collection which I didn't know of before I had the cd's. I'd recommend you pick em up.

So, well done Mr D and Mr H.

    Peter

Cheers Peter. There's actually 30 Backbeats mult-artist comps and 10 Backbeats artist-only comps out now with another 10 multi-artist comps coming in early February - details shortly.

Advance warning: the first 10 Backbeats comps will be coming up for deletion shortly unless we renew 'em, so here's a quick checklist of everything I think:-
