Good point. A LOT of those prices are just unrealistic and the records are sitting there for years. I know because I don't mind waiting for things to come up at the right price sooner or later and they generally will. I bought 3 records this morning at just 30-30% of the so-called 'current prices'. This price-matching thing is relevant - you see it a lot on Discogs. I see a lot of stuff on there, where the first early copy on Discogs sold for a nutcase price and then everyone subsequently listed their copies at the same level. A sort of mass hypnopsis innit....? It may get to that soon. I've done a lot of Oldies type gigs over the last few years but I'm collecting anything but the big ticket oldies these days. I'm finding much better stuff in the cheaper categories anyway. I want the stuff that people aren't buying whilst it's still relatively affordable. I'm now looking for exactly the above type of gigs - I want one per week at least! :). There need to be more of 'em! Ian D

What years are we talking ML? It was all about The Brit when I met up with the Nottingham lads which would have been around 71 and 72. But Nottingham has always had a strong Soul music tradition. I used to love digging in Nottingham in the early to mid 70s. Found some good records there. Ian D

I concur with Rick Cooper re "Landslide". It was a HUGE discovery at the time and absolutely no one that I know knew it prior to it being broke at the Mecca. Mind you, it wouldn't surprise me if the odd fairground waltzer got hold of some tunes because U.S. import 45s were often prizes at the fairs. I never heard anything other than the hits of the day or oldies at the ones I attended... Ian D

Unless things change in the future, I would say that there's virtually zero chance of getting many of the above out anytime soon. The majors have lost all interest in CDs or in even licensing them out to third parties. As Quincy Jones recently said, "There is no music business anymore". And he's right, there isn't, at least in terms of specialist back catalogue. Ian D

I overslept hugely and just couldn't be arsed slugging through the queues. So I slumbered around for a while, went out for a coffee locally about 3.30pm, went past a Charity Shop and found a rare 12" for £1.00. My best RSD purchase ever! Ian D

Yep. I was working a good 4-5 nights a week then. Played through Yorkshire, Lancashire and Lincolnshire most weeks. I think I was the only guy to play both Wigan and Cleethorpes at the time......... Ian D
