    Weirdly, all of my non soul mates are really quite captivated with it all. I mentioned to numerous people who aren't on the scene and all I've had back is great positivity and a thirst to learn more. They are seeing much of this without any baggage attached, so I think they have a relatively healthy view. They know the film is based in the 70s when fashions were different and they know that drugs have often been an integral part of many musical movements, so they're seeing things in a completely different light. I think most of 'em see the recent exposure as being a good thing and they all seem to love the music, which is the main thing. From a personal point of view, my consensus is that the ones who complain about the drugs in the film, have probably led relatively sheltered lives which tallies when some of the local mums, bless 'em, told me that they didn't think the film should have focused so much on drugs. I just told 'em, that's how it was in my experience. Apart from that, they liked everything else. Oh, so I don't disrupt the thread, I'm generally a Black Music guy rather than a Northern Souly. I like a lot of other stuff too, so I don't like pigeonholes anyway. Ian D

    It was a Mecca tune. Certain unknown 60s records were still played at the Mecca in '75, even if some people at that time could be a bit a 'sniffy' about such obvious 60s dinosaurs being played amidst the contemporary new releases at the time. Joe Mathews and Bernie Williams were in the same category. Ian D

    It was a flop first time around really. I played it sporadically in '75 and it was a 'last hour at the Mecca' record but it never made it past 'cult status' back then. Sounds weird to say it, but certain records sounded 'too dated' for that particular period and Betty Lloyd was in that category. Ian D

    This is precisely what I'd like to address. Don't wanna miss anywhere significant out if I can avoid it. The scene was probably much more splintered from the 80s onwards, but that's still a key part of the history and may well explain the way the scene expanded to become a UK wide scene rather than an exclusive North-West centric scene......     Actually I'm just putting the finishing touches to a project which will attempt to cover the scene from 'circa 1968 to present, generally - "The Odyssey: A Northern Soul Time-Capsule". The problem is that with a project which is limited to a certain format and length, like a CD, Book or Film for instance, you end up having to execute some broad strokes in order to fit with broader expectations. This means that the most influential and significant venues of any era, tend to be the ones which had the biggest impact at the time and the ones which will be concentrated upon forevermore. It would be interesting to try and get some kind of timeline for the various venues which operated from 1980 onwards. The 100 Club and Stafford tend to dominate the 1980s but I'd be interested in seeing the timeline for the other venues in that period. In fact, it would be nice to feature the timeline on the Odyssey (if Mike's OK with this, I'll credit the timeline to the Soul Source collective). If nothing else, it would document the particular periods where popular regional all-nighters and venues operated. This way we could see how the scene developed across the UK from 1968 to present. It'd be interesting to me to see what records were breaking in regional areas and who was playing 'em. Sorry for gatecrashing your thread Bagasulph but I'm looking at this era myself right now.     Well, at this point limited to 1000 only. Experience in this area makes us think that this will probably sell up to 1000 units internationally quite quickly and then recede equally quickly. So the chances of a potential re-press wouldn't kick in unless we had a guaranteed further 500 orders. So, yep, I reckon we'll press 1000 and sell 'em quickly but as for a re-press.......who knows......? This stuff is difficult to call and the market is constantly churning so most companies hedge their bets quite carefully and caution is the name of the game. Ian D

    I have to fight battles and do volumes of paperwork to hit these Dealer Prices. Works out at £5.00 a disc with a free box and 20 page booklet. Also it's doubtful that this will be re-pressed, so I strongly suggest people order a.s.a.p.! Ian D

    Nope. Nothing to do with any of that Dave. The film was independently produced with the music rights cleared long before it was sold to Universal. There's 5 Motown tracks in the soundtrack out of 29 tracks in total, which is around 15%. and one of those was Ric Tic, so I don't think that many Motown tracks were used really. Universal didn't dictate anything to my knowledge. Ian D
