  1. Posting from a Samsung outside the 100 Club is a bitch.... Ian D
  2. Actually, you're right to an extent. I have several hundred comps but the quality of the masters isn't always great. Finding the good masters is a task in itself and that's what we've done here. So top notch masters. However, here's the siginifant thing. The Northern Soul soundtrack has unearthed a huge audience, mamy of whom won't have the timw and ferret-like skills that we have to compile the goodies. So this is as good a package as any to get your teeth into and get the real deal. If we get just 10% of the audience who bought Northern Soul: The Soundtrack to invest in The Odyssey: A Northern Soul Time-Capsule then that'll be great. But I think we'll do much better than that touch wood! Merry Crimbo Pete! Ian D

  5. LoL, it should have been out for Christmas but that pesky Northern Soul soundtrack has never stopped selling. I didn't want to risk arresting Harmless's biggest selling album ever so February it is.... Ian D
  6. Talk about a monster of a project. It's been almost 2 years in the making but hopefully the end result has been worth it...... The Odyssey: A Northern Soul Time-Capsule Amazon Link:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Odyssey-Northern-Soul-Time-Capsule/dp/B00JYDGJHM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1418927279&sr=1-1&keywords=the+odyssey+northern+soul ‘The Odyssey: A Northern Soul Time Capsule’ is the single most comprehensive overview yet of a truly unique UK musical culture which has now lasted over 45 years and had spread across the world. The current popularity of the film “Northern Soul” and it’s soundtrack plus the attendant publicity within the mainstream media - a UK Top 10 film smash, a UK Top 10 album smash and No.1 DVD smash have well and truly put Northern Soul at the forefront of people’s interest again. This is a very, very exciting musical culture which now seems to be appealing to a younger generation of new fans in their teens who love the energy that Northern Soul provides and have the energy to burn off. But how did it start? What made young teenagers in the north of England in the late 1960s and 1970s switch from the mainstream musical scenes and plunge underground into the darkest recesses of black American Soul music? What made them travel hundreds of miles every weekend to see particular DJs and acts? What made them pay 4 weeks of hard-earned wages for a 7” vinyl single from 1967 that hardly anyone had ever heard of? Welcome to Northern Soul. One of the most enigmatic musical cultures ever to exist is now available to explore in depth. Curated by well-known professional compiler, head of Harmess Records and 1970s Northern Soul DJ, Ian Dewhirst, ‘The Odyssey: A Northern Soul Time Capsule’ is very much a labour of love. The contributors to the project read like a who’s who of Northern Soul’s golden era. Ian Dewhirst and Anglo American’s Tim Brown co-compiled the music and deliberated at length over the myriad of licensing issues. Mike Ritson, publisher of Manifesto magazine, kindly allowed us to use large swathes of his definitive book about Northern Soul, ‘The In Crowd’ to document the history of the scene. Karl White kindly provided us with a summing-up of the post Wigan Casino years, Simon White, journalist and broadcaster, interviewed, supervised and directed the collection of numerous interviews with most of the scene’s best-known characters. Richard Searling interviews the world’s longest-standing and most enigmatic record dealer, John Anderson, as well as squeezing in an interview with Philadelphia International’s Kenny Gamble, who looks through Richard’s collection of his own releases from the 1960’s and sees many of these UK releases for the first time ever! Northern Soul history! Not one, but 2 DVDs. The 160 page book layout was designed by Glen Gunton and the overall package design by Jaffa — both long-serving Northern Soul stalwarts. The music follows the evolvement of Northern Soul, from its early beginnings at Manchester’s Twisted Wheel club in 1968, through to The Golden Torch, Blackpool Mecca, Wigan Casino and Cleethorpes Pier in the 1970s, Stafford Top Of The World and The 100 Club in the 1980s and the huge dearth of Soul weekenders and the 100 Club again from the 1990’s to the present day. Featuring a mind-numbing 230 tracks and over 10 hours of legendary music, all licensed from legitimate sources and all of which have been painstakingly re-mastered and documented within the sleeve-notes. The most comprehensive Northern Soul track-listing ever. ‘The Odyssey: A Northern Soul Time-Capsule’ truly does what it says on the tin. This is the most exhaustive history of the Northern Soul scene ever released. Due to be unearthed in February 2015. CD 1 The Twisted Wheel 1. Open The Door To Your Heart - Darrell Banks 2. 7. I remember it being played at both the Mecca and Wigan but only for a week or two and then it disappeared.... Ian
  8. Great. Glad you like it. And keep it forever 'cos there will never be anymore made! Once these are gone, then that's it! Ian
  9. Also I'm sure that I read on another thread that Tommy Ridgely was played at Wigan wasn't it? Think it's on Pete Smith's Wigan tape isn't it....? Who would have played it first then? Not that I'm decrying Butch but rules are rules...... Ian D
  10. Nah Dave. Plenty of copies. There shouldn't be a problem. Sounds like an excuse to me..... Ian D
  11. Yes. Some key archive footage which Simon located. Some vintage Chris Burton and Mary Chapman footage which hasn't been seen before I believe....... Ian D
  12. You should have tried licensing the bastard........ Ian D
  13. It's the licensing that costs Gary. We've got 230 tracks and over 10.5 hours of music but it's virtually all had to be licensed in, so it's an expensive package. I was actually arguing for a higher dealer price because the DVDs ended up costing more than I thought too but my boss held it @ under £50, so I think it's a bargain anyway. We did the Philly International package @ £29.99 and it's still selling plenty but we didn't have any advances to pay on that as we had the PIR catalogue at that point. I think a fiver per CD/DVD for that level of tracks is fantastic value. The 160 page book is an added bonus really....... Ian D
  14. Whoops. Tried to edit Dottie and Millie and it posted LOL. Anyway that's the track-listing. Handy to have all those killers all in one place. Less dicking around LOOKING for stuff! Oh, and the book is pencilled-in for the next couple of years. Been busy with other stuff just lately! Ian D
  15. It is fabulous. Took some bloody work though. I'm pretty happy with the track-listing 'cos licensing was the single most difficult thing on this, for all sorts of different reasons. Tim Brown and I put the first track-listing together 18 months ago and it's gone through many permutations and plenty of input along the way. It could have been a 20 X CD, 4 x DVD and 500 page book but gotta draw the line somewhere, as my bosses keep telling me. Here's the track-listing:- HURTBOX005 The Odyssey: A Northern Soul Time-Capsule Track Listing CD 1 1. Open The Door To Your Heart - Darrell Banks 2. Walking Up A One Way Street - Willie Tee 3. 16. Hi All, Many thanks for your enquiries and interest. Tracks are licensed and mastered, DVDs are finished and book is being wrapped this week. I'll put up a separate thread shortly, but suffice to say, that I think this will be the most comprehensive overview of the scene yet. Will post up all info tonight touch wood! Ian D
  17. This thread suddenly reminded me of a GREAT fast-funker that I never hear anywhere, even though I'd love to..... Don Covay - The Overtime Man Ian D
  18. I notice the leap in the Amazon charts today since the price dropped:- Amazon Bestsellers Rank: 1,475 in Music (See Top 100 in Music) #9 in Music > R&B and Soul > Motown #24 in Music > R&B and Soul > Soul #36 in Music > Pop > Pop R&B Selling tremendously now. But please don't forget your local dedicated record shops too! Ian D
  19. Worth pointing out that Amazon have done one of their unpredictable price-drops on the Holland-Dozier-Holland Rare 45s Vinyl Box. Now available @ a staggering £41.79 including postage. That works out @ £4.00 per unreleased 7" single and there are only 1000. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Holland-Dozier-Rare-Vinyl-VINYL/dp/B00N86M7M2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417392643&sr=8-1&keywords=holland+dozier+holland+rare+45s+box+set Anyone wanting this should get in now whilst the stock is there 'cos it won't be there long at this price! Ian D
  20. I wish. This place is too small to house my beautiful Kenwood stack system and bespoke record deck....... Ian D
  21. Warlingham in Surrey but just off the M25 if that's any good...? Ian D
  22. Tougher than tough. I think I've only ever seen one copy in 40 odd years. Was always super rare....... Ian D
  23. I've got an top-of-the-range Kenwood stack system including a seperate record deck up for grabs if you're interested. I still have all the instructions and the system includes:- Record Deck CD Deck 2 x Cassette Deck Radio Tuner Graphic Equalizer Amp 2 Huge Speakers This was the system that all the Mastercuts albums were compiled with and was given to me by Kenwood at the time, so everything's top of the range. Will probably need a good clean and general service plus one of the speakers will need a cone replacing and the deck will need a new stylus. I'd have kept it 'cos it's a king-hell system but I've run out of room. £400 if you can collect it. PM if interested. Ian D
  24. Not in the world I knew. I wouldn't have called Guy Stevens, Roger Eagle and Brian Phillips spotty, nerdy anoracks of no status and figures of contempt. Where are you getting this stuff from? Ian D
