  1. It's funny you should mention the French Boogie scene 'cos I recently hooked out about 150 U.S. 45's which I think would be of interest to those guys (lots of promos, lots of weedy synths etc, etc). So I went to the site to see what records they want but there's no 80's Boogie section LOL..... I still wanna clear 'em though if you have any regular buyers of this stuff let me know, then I can get 'em off the shelves! Ian D
  2. Also , lest I forget, there are some dynamite scenes and some soulful gems in Quentin Tarrantino's "Death Proof" - Eddie Floyd and Joe Tex from memory. Also a great juke-box scene with an original Dial 45 playing! The "Hold Tight" - Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich crash sequence is one of the most effective uses of music I've ever seen! Ian D
  3. "To Live And Die In L.A." is a rockin' film if anyone hasn't seen it! A great storyline, some dynamite roles (Willem Dafoe, Fred Williamson, William Peterson) sexy style and beautifully filmed by Billy Friedkin also features one of the best fights of all time between some Compton badasses and two white scumbags who invaded their crib! Great film! Ian D
  4. Hi Malayka, You'd probably have an appreciative audience for "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" which documents the history of the Funk Brothers. Still worth watching for the archive footage and the interviews with the remaining Funk Brothers. Could do without Ben Harper and Alison Krause mauling some tunes but the over-riding thrust of the film is concentrated on the original musicians so well worth watching if you haven't already......... https://www.standingintheshadowsofmotown.com/ Ian D
  5. Goes on pretty much all-day too! Sundays are a Soulfest right across the board on www.starpointradio.com - well worth checking out IMO. 6. That version of "Nowhere To Run" from "The Warriors" soundtrack takes some beating! I never did find out who it was......... Ian D
  7. Nope, total crap I'm afraid. I played Gloria Jones's "Tainted Love" when the Q-Tips (remember Paul Young) played a gig at The Warehouse in Leeds where I was the DJ and Marc Almond was the cloakroom boy. He heard it, obviously empathised with the lyrics, rushed upstairs to find out what the record was, got me to make him a cassette of it, recorded it and sold 34,000,000 records and set the world record for the longest running record ever on the Billboard U.S. Pop chart. Strangely enough I didn't give him Judy Street's "What" but I did originally discover the record in L.A. in '76, so a bit of a double whammy I'm afraid! Apologies to all! Ian D
  8. Bloody hell. That's almost the whole damn show Mel! And the Fever album really is a 0 tracker, which is why it's essential to get the 12" LOL...... And Sir Percy will be beavering away choosing his tunes, don't worry, as he's off to Rimini the following Tuesday as well, so should be a great show! Best, Ian D
  9. As you should Al, most of your KTF mates are here! Ian D
  10. LOL, Dennis D'Ell ex lead singer of the Honeycombs and now Englebert Humperdinck???? Have you tried "Toody" by Angels One Five or "What Can I Say" by Watson T. Browne yet? Should be right up your street.........! Ian D
  11. Hi All, Perfect radio weather for the show today, i.e. pissing down LOL! Still that meant we could do the show AND get back and watch the Wimbledon final, so it worked out nicely in the end. Also intermittent mike and earphone probs this week but, HEY, we're professionals and the show must go on! Didn't affect the music luckily so still OK to listen if you don't mind a few cut-outs on our irreverent chatter LOL... Also Al, is away on hols next week, so we're pleased to welcome the much-travelled Sir Percy aka Paul Thrower who will be guesting next week and dipping into his box of awesome tunes, so put the date in your diary for next Sunday 2.00-4.00pm! Just hit the live link below the playlist (or paste it directly into your browser bar) and you're in! Try it, it gets strangely addictive after a while............... 12. Yeah, it's OK for a Brit cabaret singer I guess! Found a copy for 10p in Notting Hill Record & Tape Exchange before they got wise LOL. And any "Gay Disco" which plays the likes of Maurice Williams, Robbie Lawson, Eula Cooper, the Inspirations, James Fountain and the Carstairs is fine by me! Ian D
  13. 14. Haha LOL! You're calling Fluff's list crap and you have Dennis D'Ell as your avatar! I'll stick with the soul mate........ Ian D
  15. So refreshing to see someone putting their balls on the table! Cheers Fluff! Quite a few oddities that I've never heard in there along with a lot of older goodies which I'd forgotten about - 9th St Exit (fomer 25 pencer), Satyr, Dave Crawford, Sir Wales Wallace, The Duprees, R.B. Hudman Jr and, of course, Lee Mitchell (which I think is pretty damn rare). I'll have to check out a few of 'em though - all new to me and not that obvious ("Mighty Love Man" - Black Stash?). I'd like to see more lists like this - they're interesting to me and make me check out things I wouldn't normally listen to. I'm listening to the Ann Sexton now............. Ian D
  16. I take exception to the above Bazza. I happen to be a 15yr old cross-dresser with luxuriously bushy hair and a beard who is studying for politics and who is routinely derided by everyone for my supposedly stupid views on making sure that ONLY the right records are being played and making sure my views are ruthlessly enforced. Why the discrimination? Ian D
  17. Haha LOL! Just re-read this. Very good! Could we have a 'Doctor Evil" type character as head of the Soul Steering Committee in memory of the legend that was John 'Kojac' Harvey (an idiosyncratic promoter from the early to mid 70's)? Ian D
  18. Glad ya like it Ironside! I may use my alter-ego 'Frank' for the Northern/Modern section from now on LOL! Ian D
  19. Yeah I think he is Mel, but he's what we call in the trade 'an enigmatic poster' - in other words he doesn't actually post too much but he dives in every now and then and has a good old look around........ I remember buying the Spyder Turner Whitfield album when it came out and not being able to find anything on there which was remotely playable at the time. In fairness "Get Down" is a bit cheesy but cheesy seems to be the new black in some circles LOL...... Ian D
  20. Hi Mel, Yep, I can help LOL! The mystery has now been solved - thanks to Lynnfrom www.Ebonycuts.com for the info LOL! We did in fact kick off the show with Spyder Turner's "Get Down" from the 'Music Web' album. Would have been just way to cheesy to play back then but sounds just great now and what a performance! Boogie on dudes......... Ian D
  21. Hi All, Another beautiful Sunday afternoon spent in the bowels of Starpoint Towers digging out some underplayed gems and some belting classics. Incidentaly, if anyone can identify Track 1 it'd be handy! Al lifted it for the opening mix but it's from an unidentified source LOL! Who is it? My guess off the top of my head was Side Effect but it sounds just too New York really.......so who is it? We KNOW that voice! Shout out and a couple of CD's to whoever can identify it, OK? Just hit the live link below the playlist (or paste it directly into your browser bar) and you're in! Try it, it gets strangely addictive after a while............... 22. It was big for me @ Cleethorpes/Sams/The Central around '75 ish I believe........ Ian D
  23. This has turned into my favourite instrumental of all time (just pipping "California Montage" funnily enough). The full version is just draw-droppingly brilliant and Van McCoy's best production bar none IMO. For those who want to hear it in it's full glory, I used the full album mix on The Blackpool Mecca volume of the Sony-BMG released "The Northern Soul Story" available in yer local stores now...... Ian D
  24. Same here. Ian D
  25. A slick term for current contemporary Soul music I believe Dawn. Ian D
