  10. You and many others Beeks. I'm amazed at the relatively low value of House era 12"'s these days - it's not really old enough for a scene to emerge yet. But Northern Soul's had 40 years to develop and nurture, plus the scene has now spread across the globe which is fueling the demand for original copies. We used to buy them @ 20 for a £1 in the early 70's in some cases, so over the years the collection has provided a good investment and got me through a few tough times! Naturally if circumstances allowed me to keep every piece of vinyl I'd ever bought, I'd have three houses full by now (apparently Guy Hennigan does have three houses full of vinyl, as someone told me yesterday LOL). I've actually gone through about 6 different collections at different stages of my life. I've always kept a solid nucleus of circa 5-10k records and the collection has ebbed and flowed along with my life. Also a lot of my original records have later emerged to be big records on the scene which is nice to see. But gone are the days of spending big money on 7" singles for me. The most I ever spent was maybe £100 in cash and swaps for any records and I've had many of the big ones at one stage or other. The way I've stayed sane with it all is simply to view my collection as a constantly evolving entity over 40 odd years. It's still evolving - I just picked up the best track I've heard all year yesterday, albeit on CD! I now have more music across the different formats than I've ever had in my entire life. The big problem is finding the time to listen to it all these days! Ian D
  11. Take yer time Ady - I don't want you in pain! Get the bastards out! Ian D
  12. Paul Leka (who wrote "Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye" for Steam and "You Are The One I Love" - Adams Apples) and Irwin M. Schuster, Pulisher is TM Music Ltd. Ian D
  13. Hey Screamer! Suss'd Records was myself and my colleague Chris Barnett's label which was specifically set-up to reissue the bulk of the Salsoul catalogue in the UK and yes, we did licence "Janice" to Neil Rushton who who did the one-off 7" release for Soulvation. Looks like a nice collectors item now! I've attached an almost complete catalogue of what we reissued whilst we had the licence. In fact this is the kind of stuff I'll be playing up in Leeds on the 28th of next month, which'll be the first time you and me have deejayed together for, oh, at least, 30 years LOL! Looking forward to it! Best, Ian D Salsoul_UK_Full_Catalogue_18.1.06.doc
  14. Great record that Jerry! Still my UK promo-only 12"......... Ian D
  15. Woke up this morning threw the curtains back, pissing down, grey cloud, put the telly on, saw the date and realised I'd slept all the way through Monday so it was all a dream............... No Angelina Jolie, no bacon sarnie, no lottery win, no Frank Wilson, no J-LO, no acetates, no Beyonce, no premium bond wins.......... Back to cruel reality I guess LOL.... Ian D
  16. Without the amphet at the time Malc - I didn't need anything interfering with my overall performance! Ian D
  17. Exhausted after Beyonce @ lunchtime and Myleene Class for afternoon tea and scones. But stumbled into Abbey Road studios just as they were junking a load of masters and lo and behold, found a load of Marvin Gaye & Four Tops 2" Masters which don't appear on any lists.... Whoops. Look at that, my premium bonds have just come up for £25,000... Just time for a quick drink @ the Dorchester to hook up with Steve Wonder for a natter about MCing his live gigs...... Great day so far........! Can it get any better? Ian D
  18. One man's cheese is another one's hard-cheddar my young friend. Had you been around in 1970 you too would have been instrumental in the hype that was Tony Turner at the time I'm sure! A sort of 'none-existent-hot-box-killer' I guess you'd call it nowdays LOL...... Ian D
  19. What cheesy oldie? Tony Turner? Never been heard mate! Until now..... Ian D
  20. What a magnificent day. Woke up automatically @ 7.00am, saw the sunlight beaming through the windows and felt the warm glow of early sunshine and a clear blue sky. I suddenly felt like this was going to be my day! I felt a rustle beside me and Angelina Jolie popped up from under the sheets and said, "morning baby, fancy another one"? 20 minutes later she got up and made me a bacon sarnie. Then the postie came with the mint V.I.P. copy of Frank Wilson which I'd won on a Mexican auction list for $1. Then the phone rang with J-LO pestering me to come round for a 'morning coffee'. And then, just as I was about to head out of the door I realised I'd won the jackpot on the National Lottery - about £7,000,000 - enough for a few records ay? Hit J-L0's, had a quick coffee and took part in some theraputic physical excercise and then headed for a coffee @ Starbucks in Kensington. Whilst having the coffee, I noticed that the building opposite was being cleared out and a couple of the removal guys came into Starbucks with what looked like some old acetates in their hands. I asked 'em if I could look at 'em, and the guy said, "you can have 'em mate - we were gonna chuck 'em anyway..........." Mmm interesting. "My Room Is 6 x 6" - Tony Turner, "He's Not The Kind Of Guy (You Say No To)" - Sandi Sheldon, "My Heart's In Pieces" - The Silhouettes and "This Beat (Don't Stop)" - Stanley Mitchell. Just then the phone rang. Beyonce again. Can I make an early lunch...........? So not a bad day so far............ Gotta go....... Ian D
  21. In the early 70's the initiation process was pretty straightforward. If you were new to the scene, you were a 'div'. You'd then do the compulsory 3-6 months of keeping your mouth shut, going to venues, absorbing knowledge until eventually you'd be elevated to the level of 'proper souly' and then find yourself noticing the next lot of fresh 'divs' onto the scene, who after 6-9 months would eventually be acknowledged by you and so on......... Top of the heap was anyone who went to the Wheel as we tended to respect the older soulboys back then. Ian D
  22. Jimmy Thomas "The Beautiful Night" Parlophone & 20th Century 2 versions Bill Withers "Harlem" Sussex & Lotus (same song different title and recording on Lotus - "Three Nights & A Morning) Ian D
  23. Also should point out that the U.S. 12" of the full version of "Am I Losing You" is one of the rarest 12"ers ever! A great Soulful duet and dancefloor killer whenever played in the right circles.......... Ian D
  24. ......and conveniently the 'b' side of Irene Cara's "Fame" 12" (for that extra fidelity). Storming instrumental............ Ian D
  25. No Maouri Love Songs section either....... Ian D
