  5. I think he's like the bastard son of Tom Moulton. So close to Tom's sensibility that it's almost scary. In fact Tom has been mentoring Mike over the last few years. Two peas in a pod! Your sister will love it I guarantee! Ian D
  6. At the moment, although I have a sneaking feeling we'll be seeing vinyl shortly.... Ian D
  7. I'm posting this up as many Soul Sourcers love Tom Moulton's remixes. So welcome Brooklyn's Mike Maurro - by far the nearest remixer to Tom Moulton musically speaking. In other words, if you like Tom Moulton's mixes, then you'll also LOVE this package! Out 26/01/15 and looking hot already! The Mike Maurro Peak-Hour Remixes Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mike-Maurro-Peak-Hour-Remixes/dp/B00FE9QXBW/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1419012815&sr=1-1&keywords=mike+maurro+remixes East Coast, U.S.A., 2014 and the remix culture elite squad are alive, well and continuing the spirit and heritage first created by Tom Moulton some 34 years ago, when he created the both the remix and then the 12 single in a totally organic act of nature. This is a very private club where the currency and terms of membership are measured by access to 2” multi-track tapes and, hence, the opportunity to access the full original recording and remix it. Where these multi-tracks came from and how they fell into the possession of the East Coast elite is a whole other set of stories. Many of the names in the club are familiar — Tom Moulton aka the godfather, John Morales, Danny Krivit, Paul Simpson, Victor Rosado to name a handful — all East Coast veterans through and through. It’s a difficult club to join and outsiders don’t get in. But somewhere around 2008 a new name entered the ring, some guy from Brooklyn called Mike Maurro. First there were 2 state-of-the-art Spinners remixes that got people talking and then the INCREDIBLE opus that is Ashford & Simpson’s “Tried, Tested and Found True” and suddenly everybody wanted to know this guy from Brooklyn. What else did he have? Where the hell was he finding these multi-tracks? And the stampede began. It was always going to be simply a matter of time before Mike Maurro’s work would eventually become available. Who wouldn’t want these remixes? But easier said than done. It meant explaining to the repertoire owners that, yes, these remixes were from the original multi-tracks and, no, we don’t know where Mike got ‘em from. A delicate balancing act. In fact, the project has had multiple revisions and taken 2 years to clear. However, here are 21 state-of-the-art remixes of some of the greatest dance music classics of all-time, all from the original multi-track tapes by a guy who is just seeped in dance music culture and a fierce collector of multiple formats of the recordings. This collection puts Mike Maurro firmly in the tradition of the great East Coast remixers and introduces a fresh new sensibility to the art of the classic remix. Welcome to Mike Maurro’s Peak-Time Remixes — a ‘must have’ package for all serious aficionados of remix culture. Brooklyn rocks the best. CD1 1. 8. I think most of the Del-Larks were found in the UK Pete. I seem to remember Jim Wilson @ Shoreditch turning 'em up amongst all the doo-wop he had at the time. That's certainly where mine came from....... Ian D
  9. Are you sure Kev? I seem to remember this being an oldie long before Wigan. Plus I can remember the Cleckheaton lads singing it's praises after a Saturday at the Torch. Just had a quick search around and I'm not the only one who had this down as the Torch. Who had it first I wonder......? Ian D
  10. I seem to remember Levine writing about Sam Moultrie in Echoes circa '74/'75ish.... Ian D
  11. Watching the Northern Soul film soundtrack become Harmless's biggest-ever selling album in it's 20 year history and seeing it become Demon's biggest-seller of the year. Quite incredible for a so-called specialist release. It's still in the Top 100 UK Compilation chart and shifted over 900 copies in the last week alone. Ian D
  12. Shawn Robinson was a Torch biggie..... Ian D
  13. Surely faking rare stamps or even bank notes would be easier on the basis that there's less elements to reproduce.....? Ian D
  14. Licensed from the vaults I believe. I also believe there's now a full album of instrumentals from the Parliament sessions. In fact, I'm sure there are some surprises to come from Revilot/Solid Hitbound. I turned up a Darrell Banks "Open The Door To Your Heart" instrumental a couple of months back and there's never been one of those documented either.... Ian D
  15. As evidenced by the Robby Lawson's which were apparently from the original stampers but still couldn't pass a close examination by experts....... Ian D
  16. Additionally, the vinyl pressing trade has also changed massively in the last 50 years. When I was running Simply Vinyl in the late 90s I was told there were only 2 suppliers of vinyl pellets left in the world at that point. I'm not even sure that they used vinyl pellets in the 60s and I'm also pretty sure that the quality of vinyl changed after the Oil crisis of the early 70s. I think it would be near on impossible to replicate the vinyl of the 60s and certainly that would be the first thing I would look at for a comparison.... Ian D
  17. Makes sense. One of the biggest-selling comps of the year...... Ian D
  18. Came out on 08/12/14 Rob. Hang on, didn't you do the notes....? I got your e-mail. All will be sorted on Monday and I'll send up a copy. Been a manic end to the year old bean! Merry Xmas by the way. Ian D
  19. Wa-Hey! One of the killers to own on a 7"! Good call ay? I wonder if Philly Dave's set turned-up eventually? Ian D
  20. Cheers Rick. Yep, it would be nice to see a proper release of the Cameo Parkway catalogue. I actually did some of the UK reissues in the 70s - Bobby Paris, Yvonne Baker etc but since then there's only been those dodgy Campark volumes. As it happens I have a new album series commencing next year and since I'm communicating with Abko again I'll try and get a package going..... Ian D
  21. No Shorty. All my releases are designed to suck money up from obsessives like ourselves unfortunately..... Having said that, I'll have a look at maybe doing a DVD/Book format as that would probably do well in it's own right. Meantime, get yer dosh out. You have til the end of Feb to save up! Ian
  22. Derek, would you be good enough to write my obituary please mate... Ian D
