That's a good list Baz. Also, they must have been playing "Hold Back The Night" at the same time as us! Ian D

Frank Wilson - Do I Love You - Uk Tamla Motown Demo

I'm pretty sure that Kenny's copy was Les McCutcheon's/Johnathan Woodliffe's original copy which was the first one wasn't it? Ian D -
Most films have comedy in 'em Tabs. Also, with the best will in the world, this isn't a Francis Ford Coppolla huge budget production either by the looks of it. My guess is they'll go for a whimsical typical British boring comedy anyway, as the only UK films which have done well internationally just lately have been the bloody awful Richard Curtis/Hugh Grant type vehicles..... Hope it isn't. But the chances of anyone getting it 100% right are incredibly remote IMO - I guess the proof will be in the pudding when we eventually get to see it...... Ian D

I sold one for £100 a couple of months ago..... Ian D -
LOL, you should be directing the bloody thing! Perfect! Plus has obviously comedy potential Ian D

I actually dropped a line to Jeff re some potential help in licensing some authentic Northern Soul tracks from people who we know own them, but he's not involved with that area apparently. He told me that the business affairs people @ Ipso Facto films are the ones to talk to, so I put a call into both the London & Newcastle offices but couldn't elicit a reply from either number (what else is new LOL). The fact is that they could assemble a brilliant soundtrack @ probably a quarter of the expense of licensing in Paul Weller, Duffy and Amy tracks, but I don't know if they understand that. There are loads of 100% key Wigan monster tracks which are still independently owned or controlled and which historically should be in the film. What would I do? I'd theme the movie so that the likes of Amy, Duffy and Weller are used in the non-authentic parts of it, i.e. the intro, title sequences, incidental scenes and outro etc. Remember they're thinking of cashing in on the popularity of the above artists and probably think it will be sexy to use those songs in the film. Plus they want to flog a cool soundtrack presumably. All of the above would probably work well in sympathy with...... .......using the original recordings for the Wigan Casino/Northern Soul specific historical type scenes, many of which can be licensed relatively cheaply and would give the film to stamp of authenticity for the hardcore devotees. Best of both worlds if you may. Not perfect but probably the best you could hope for in this day and age! However, I guess they have an agenda and ultimately they're not aiming at the S.S. audience but rather the 14-24 demographic which actually goes to the movies! Ian D

Ah, but surely that would brand In-Town Mikey as a dishonest chancer who missuses the wonderful Soul Source forum for his nefarious record schemes wouldn't it? It would also surely encourage the slightly more machiavellian types who are on here anyway to do likewise thus reducing the forum to whirlpool of lies, intrigue and hypocrisy would'nt it? Furthermore In-Town Mikey might actually lose custom, as the record hawks will move on to fresh carrion to rape and pillage if In-Town Mikey pulls a stunt like that! Ian D

Bet the prices for Lee Fields are killing him then! Ian D

I just did exactly the same thing elsewhere and sold a HORRIBLE 80's U.S. 12" of something which made no discernable sense to me at all, but obviously is in high-demand in California! Ian D
-
Unbelievable! This 7" was originally given away as a promotional tool by Max Kidd in the mid 80's whilst he was promoting the Go-Go sound. He gave me 10 copies @ Midem in Cannes and I gave 'em to a few people when I got back - no one knew it at the time. Bloody wish I'd kept 'em now........ Ian D

Well, I thought Colin C was a roadie for the Grateful Dead when I bumped into him in Birmingham a couple of years back LOL...... And I don't recognise the guy on the right but that's not unusual for me - I don't recognise a lot of people from back in the day..... Ian D

Oh blimey. I just can't seem to get to it yet mate. I'm really not that great at reading instruction manuals and I know it'll take an age to get my head around it all. Put it this way, I won't actually enjoy learning it - I'm only using it as a bloody tool but I know it'll involve hours of frustration ultimately.... But I'll look at the tutorial this week.....promise. Also just surviving is a challenge at the moment - juggling so much stuff it's ridiculous. Compilation albums/Venues/Production Stuff/E-Bay & Discogs Sales etc, etc whilst seeing what will happen with the music biz is a full-time job in itself LOL..... I think I caught a Butch set @ Prestatyn didn't I? I wasn't exactly stood over the decks like your good self but I'm pretty sure I caught him play (I don't actually know what he looks like although I'm pretty sure I must have bumped into him before at some point). Also caught some of Sam's set @ Prestatyn too...... Playing catch-up is fun! Ian D

I'm with you lot on this. I like fresh attitudes, always have. I find with a lot of older people, that attitudes get entrenched and they can be a bit inflexible at times. Everytime I find myself going in that direction, I kick myself and try and have an objective viewpoint about stuff. The fact is that there is wealth of great music out there. I've had a bit more time to spare over the last couple of years and I can honestly say, just lately I'm listening to some of the most inspiring music I've ever heard in my life from a variety of sources - not just Northern or Modern Soul but other areas too. And I've been at this lark for a good 40+ years now! You're NEVER too old to learn and you're NEVER too young to fall in love. Ian D

What Does It Take - To Win Your Love For Me
Ian Dewhirst replied to Peter99's topic in Look At Your Box
Jr Walker version is the one for me. It actually hit No.13 in the UK Pop chart in 1969 and is one of my favourite Motown songs ever. This would have been too 'pop' to have been played @ the Wheel presumably? Also an interesting indie 80's version from '81 out of New York - Tony Rome & The D.W.A.L. Orchestra featuring Donald Armstrong on Kency............... Ian D -
Darlene Love - Lord If You're A Woman
Ian Dewhirst replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in Look At Your Box
LOL. It may well be but I'd sooner play this then many of the big money tunes. I've always rated it but I think would really work on the right night these days. I've also got a single-sided promo 12" of this. Deffo playing it on the show tomorrow........ What a GREAT record! Ian D -
I just played "Lord If You're A Woman" - Darlene Love & The Wall Of Sound Orchestra on Phil Spector International (UK only release I believe) and I think it's one of the most powerful records ever made. Astonishing Phil Spector production, sledgehammer Northern beat and simply brilliant vocals by Ms Love. Sounds like it should be right up there to me. Has this ever been aired anywhere? Ian D

Oh hello Blake. Long time no see old bean. How the hell are ya........oh......... hang on.......just a minute..........just seen a more interesting thread.........back in a mo............. Ian D
